This invention relates to a drop wire stop motion for looms, particularly to a center brace which additionally supports the warp supports or rests between their end portions.
Drop wire stop motions as commonly constructed include a plurality of banks of drop wires which are normally supported by the warps during weaving. The drop wires are mounted on guide bars which extend widthwise of the loom so that upon breaking of a warp end, the drop wire associated therewith may be guided in its movement to the position for loom stoppage. There is usually associated with the stop motion mechanism warp supports or rests over which the warps pass and by which they are enabled to maintain the drop wires in raised position during normal weaving. The warp rests are supported. at their end portions on brackets which are usually attached to the loom frame at the sides thereof, and these warp rests extend parallel to the drop wire guides and are usually at a position beneath the same. On wide looms the Warp rests are additionally supported between their end portions by at least one center brace, but inasmuch as normal weaving requires the warp ends to extend back from the fell of the cloth at substantially right angles thereto for at least a distance greater than the usual location of the drop wires, it is desirable that this center brace be constructed so as to permit freedom of lateral shifting of the drop wires in order to permit freedom of lateral movement of the warps to properly arrange or align themselves with the fell of the clothv An object of the invention is to provide a simple 'and eflicient form of center brace for the warp rests which will enable the drop wires adjacent the brace freedom of lateral shifting movement past the brace.
A more specific object of the invention is to provide a center brace which may be permanently fixed in position and will enable the drop wires adjacent the said brace freedom .of lateral shifting movement past the brace.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a portion of a drop wire stop motion embodying my invention; and
Figure 2 is an end view partially in section looking toward the left end of Figure 1.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a center brace in which the warp rests will be sup 2 ported from a position directly beneath the said warp rests and in such a manner that no obstruction will be present to be engaged by the drop wires, thus permitting lateral shifting of the drop wires past the center brace such as would occur when warp ends straighten as a result of faulty beaming of the warps which also results in preventing a spreading of the adjacent warp ends on either side of the brace, which results in faulty weaving.
Referring to the drawing for a more detailed description of the invention, 9 designates generally a fragmental end portion of a drop wire mechanism which includes a bracket H) which is adapted to be fixed to the loom frame, not shown, at one side of the loom, it being understood that there will be another bracket Ill of suitable construction at the other side of the loom. The brackets are each provided with a plurality of upwardly opening vertically disposed slots I I which are formed in the upper edge portion of the brackets. Detector bars I2 of the warp stop motion are supported at their end portion in the slots I I. These bars I2 also provide guides for the drop wires. The particular type or character of the detector bars I2 forms no essential part of the present invention and those shown are .of a usual well-known manufacture, and each consists of a ground electrode I4 and a live electrode I5, which is supported and insulated from the latter. The electrode I4 is a metallic channel, one end portion of which rests in a slot I I, and electrode I5 consists of a fiat metal bar which is fixed in the channel portion of the electrode I4 and is insulated from the latter in a usual way, not shown, which may consist of a layer of insulation 'material placed in the channels so as to be disposed between the said electrodes M and I5. The electrodes are also connected in a usual manner by mechanism or devices, not shown, into the electric circuit, not shown, of the warp sto motion.
The drop wires I6 are also of a usual construction of the hair pin type, each of which has two legs H which facilitate the threading or assembling of the drop wires on the warp ends W, as shown at I8 (see Figure 2) The upper portion of the drop wire It has a closed, elongated slot I9 through which are threaded the said detector bars I2. There are a plurality of drop wires I6, one for each individual warp end. The warp ends are usually arranged in groups extending widthwise of the loom, and the drop wires of one of said groups of warp ends are threaded on one detector bar I 2, and the drop wires of another of said groups of warp ends are threaded on another of said detector bars I 2, thus providing separate banks of drop wires 16. In the drawing a four bank arrangement is shown.
The brackets ii! also have formed at their outer edge semi-circular or arcuate recesses 20 in which the end portions of the outer warp rests 2| are received and supported. These said brackets are also provided with a plurality of upwardly opening vertically disposed slots 22 in which are received and supported additional inner disposed warp rests 23 which may be of smaller diameter than the warp rests 2| but with their upper edge extending in the plane of the upper edge of the latter warp rests so that the warps will extend in a straight line over all of the rests. The warp rests also extend parallel to each other and to the detector bar l2 and are at a position beneath the same and spaced from each other so that the inner rests 23 will be centrally located between adjacent detector bars I2. The. stop motion functions in the usual manner so that when a warp end breaks or becomes slackened to effect normal weaving, the drop wire being free of its supporting warp end will fall and be guided so that the electrodes of the detector will be bridged and thereby close the said electric circuit of the stop motion, all in a usual well-known manner.
In wide looms, as by way of example worsted looms, it is desirable to additionally support the warp rests between their end portions' To this end a brace designated 24, which forms the subject of the present invention, is provided. The brace 24 in the present embodiment of the invention is in the form of an inverted fork-like member having in the instant disclosure five vertically disposed arms, one for each warp rest. The outer arms are designated 25 and the inner arms 26, and these are spaced from each other on center a distance substantially equal to the center spacing of said warp rests. The distance between adjacent arms is made substantially greater than the width of the drop wire i6, thus providing upwardly opening recesses 2'5. The upper extremity of each arm 25 is provided with semi-circular or arcuate recesses 28, which extend into engagement with the outer warp rests 2 l. The end extremities of the arms 26 are likewise each provided with a semi-circular or arouate recess 29 which extend into engagement with the inner warp rests 23. The brace 25 has a leg portion 30 through which extends an elon- 'gated slot ,3! to receive a tie bolt 32 to secure the brace 24 in positon such as on a bracket 33 which projects from some portion of the loom frame or is otherwise provided.
As previously described, the drop wires I are maintained in the raised position by the warps W which in turn rest on the warp rests 2!, 23. As shown, each recess 2! will be in line With a bank of drop wires l6, and the depth of the recess will 'be much greater than the portion of a drop wire depending from a warp end so that no part of the brace will be in line to ofier any obstruction to any of the said lateral shifting of the drop wires, and consequently the warps W may freely rearrange themselves to be in proper line with the fell of the cloth when .occasion requires such shifting of warp ends, as by way of example beaming or other loom condition.
I claim:
1. In a warp stop motion for looms having longitudinally extending warp rests, longitudinally extending drop wire guides above the warp rests, drop wires on said guides, supports for the end portions of said warp rests and guides, a center brace for said warp rests positioned beneath the same and having an arm for each of said warp rests extending upwardly into engagement therewith, said arms being spaced from each other a distance greater than the width of said drop wires providing upwardly opening recesses in line with said drop warp guides, said recesses being of a depth and width to permit a shifting of the drop wires along said drop wire guides past said brace.
2. In a warp stop motion for looms having longitudinally extending warp rests, longitudinally extending drop wire guides above the warp rests, supports for the end portions of said warp rests and guides, a center brace for said warp rests positioned wholly beneath the same and extending upwardly into engagement with said warp rests, said center brace having upwardly opening recesses therein equal to the number of drop wire guides and in line therewith, said. recesses extending through said brace from one side thereof to another and of a width and depth to permit shifting of drop wires along said guides past said brace.
3. In a warp stop motion for looms having longitudinally extending warp rests, longitudinally extending drop wire guides above the warp rests, supports for the end portions of said warp rests and guides, a center brace for said warp rests positioned Wholly beneath the same and having a plurality of arcuate recesses in the upper edge thereof in which said Warp rests are received, said center brace having upwardly opening recesses therein equal to the number of said drop wire guides, and in line therewith, said recesses extending through said brace from one side thereof to the other and of a width and depth to permit a shifting of drop wires longitudinally of said guides along said guides past said brace.
4. In a warp stop motion for looms having longitudinally extending warp rests, longitudinally extending drop wire guides above the warp rests, end supports for the end portions of said warp rests and guides, a center brace for-said warp rests positioned wholly beneath the same and having a plurality of arcuate recesses in the upper edge thereof in which said warp rests are received, said center brace having upwardly opening recesses therein equal to the number of said drop wire guides, and in line therewith, said recesses extending through said brace from one side thereof to the other and of a width and depth to permit a shifting of the drop wires longitudinally of said guides along said uides past said brace, said brace having a longitudinally generally vertical slot therethrough for receiving a fastening bolt for securing said brace in adjusted position.
