In a conventional type of belt buckle where the holding element is in the form of a prong pivotally mounted in the center of the buckle it is. necessary to draw the belt through the buckle in order to insert or release the prong and where the buckle is provided with a sliding locking member it is somewhat diiicult to release the gripping elements. With this thought in mind this invention contemplates a belt buckle in which the gripping elements are released by pressing one of the side members outwardly and in which the belt is opened or released without tightening the telt.

Avfurther object of the invention is to provide an improved belt buckle which is of a simple and economical construction.
With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention embodies a substantially rectangular shaped bar having side and end members, in which one of the end members is provided with a loop and an arcuate end on one of the side members is provided with a projection that is positioned to extend into conventional prong receiving openings of a belt and also in which the side members are connected by a plate slidably mounted on said members.

With the parts formed in this manner, the buckle may be formed with one continuous wire or bar with the eye or loop I4 formed at one end of the member l2 and with the opposite end of the member i2 bent at thev point 2li` to form the side member Ill. The opposite end of the side member Ill is bent across and at the same time downwardly at the point 2| to form the end member I3, and the member I3 at the opposite end, is bent upwardlyand longitudinally at the point 22 to form the side member II which is bent inwardly at the opposite end forming the arcuate section Iii and projection I5.
With the plate I1 slidably mounted on the side members l!) and II a complete buckle is provided whereby with a loop 23 at one end of a belt 2t positioned on the member I2 the yopposite end of the belt is placed over the member I3, under the plate I1, and over the loop 23 and through the strap 25 on the belt.
With the parts in this position the projection I5 extends through one of the openings 26 o1 the belt and thereby retains the extended end of the belt in the buckle.
The extended end of the belt is released from the buckle by pressing outwardly on the member I l whereby the projection I5 moves out of the opening 26.
The plate I'! is slidably mounted so that it may be moved forwardly to coact with the projection l5 and part I6 for retaining the belt in position in the buckle.
It will be understood that modications may be made'in the design and arrangement of the What is claimed is:
1. A belt buckle comprising parallel side members connected at one of the ends thereof with an end member and having an end member extended from a side member at the end thereof opposite to that on which the former end member is positioned for receiving a loop on the end of a belt, and having a projection on the other of said side members positioned to extend into an opening in a belt on which the'buckle is mounted, and a transversely positioned plate slidably mounted on the said side members so that upon sliding movement of said plate said plate will force the belt into engagement with said rst mentioned end member to retain the belt in position in the buckle.
2. A belt buckle comprising a substantially rectangularly shaped frame having side and end members with the side members connected at one of the ends thereof with an end member and with the end of one of the side members opposite to said end member having a section extended transversely in relation to the side member and the other of said side members having an arcuate end with a projection extending therefrom for engaging openings in a belt extended through the buckle, and a transversely disposed plate slidably mounted on the said side members of the buckle, whereby upon sliding movement of said plate said plate will clamp the belt against one of said end members to retain the belt in position in the buckle.
3. A belt buckle as described in claim 2, wherein the end member connecting the ends of the side members is offset in relation to the plane of said side members.

In a belt buckle, the combination which comprises a substantially rectangular shaped frame having side and end members with the end member at one end of the frame oiset in relation to a plane extended through said side members, the end member at the end of the frame opposite to that in which the offset end member is positioned having an eye on the end thereof and positioned to receive the end of a belt, the end of the other of said side members opposite to the end connected to the other of said side members by the oiset end member being extended inwardly to the longitudinal center of the buckle and having a pin extended therefrom, and a plate slidably mounted on the side members of the buckle, so that upon sliding movement of said plate said plate will clamp the belt against one of said end members to retain the belt in position in the buckle.
