1 Claim. (01. 248-263) This invention relates to curtain or drapery rod brackets, and more particularly to a bracket adapted to facilitate the mounting of a pair of curtain or drapery rods.

An object of the invention is to provide a bracket which may be inexpensively fabricated from sheet material, using modern mass production techniques.

Another object of the invention is to provide a double curtain or drapery rod bracket which includes a pair of curtain or drapery rod-receptive-channels which are integral with and extend forwardly from a base or mounting panel. These channels are constructed and arranged whereby to receive the ends of a curtain or drapery rod. The bracket further includes transverse means beneath which the end portions of the rods received in the channels may be disposed for precluding accidental or unintentional relative motion about the channels, thereby securely though releasably anchoring the rods in their respective channels and to the bracket.

These and other objects may be attained by the means described herein and as disclosed in the accompanying drawings in which:

Fig. 1 is a plan view of a double curtain or drapery rod assembly embodying brackets made in accordance with the teachings of the present invention.

Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the assembly of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 4 is a view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 1 but with the curtain or drapery rod removed.

Fig. 6 is a side view of the outer, channelforming panel of a modified form of bracket comprising a detail of the present invention.

The bracket of the present invention may be fabricatedfrom a single piece of sheet material such as, by way of example, metal, which may be suitably formed whereby to provide a central mounting panel l0 having its opposite side edges bent forwardly thereof whereby to comprise a pair of laterally spaced panels I2 which comprise the outermost panels of a pair of opposed, complementary, laterally spaced, open-topped, U shaped curtain or drapery-rod-receptive channels denoted generally by the numeral 20.- Said channels are defined by outerpanels [2, bottom panels I4 and inner panels 16, as best illustrated in Figs. 4, land 9. With particular reference now to Fig. 1, it will be noted that inner panels i6'are disposed in substantial spaced parallelism.

The rear ends of the bottom and inner panels, l4 and I6, respectively, preferably terminate forwardly of the central mounting panel II), it being noted that the numeral I8 of Fig. 3 denotes the rear edge or end of bottom panel 14.

In the embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1 through 5, a transverse member 30 such as, by way of example, a rivet, bolt, pin, or the like, is secured to and spans the outer panels 12.

As best illustrated in Fig. 3, the transverse member 38 is located rearwardly of the ends of channels 20 and above its bottom panel 14 whereby to engage the upper portion of a curtain or drapery rod received within a channel 20. Transverse member 30 serves to preclude downward relative'motion of the rod with reference to its channel.

Preferably a notch indicated by the numeral 32 is provided in the upper, forward portion of a curtain or drapery rod 34 wherein the dimensional characteristics of notch 32 is such as to receive transverse member 30 for thereby precluding accidental or unintentional axial shifting of the rod after having been received within its channel.

Still referring to Fig. 3, it will be observed that a curtain or drapery rod may be quickly and easily associated with my bracket by elevating the rod for introducing notch 32 under and thence upwardly onto transverse member 30..

The lower edge 36 of the rod will abut against the upper face of lower panel l4, thereby completing a rod-bracket assembly.

With reference now to Figs. ,6 and '7, it will be noted that an abutment has been struck from the outer panel l2 to project inwardly of outer panel 12 and into the plane of channel 20, extended. The purpose and function of abutment 60 is identical with that of transverse member 30.

In Figs. 8 and 9 outer panels i2 have been provided with a different type of abutment 10 which, like 60, projects inwardly from outer panel 12 and projects into channel 20, extended rearward- 1y toward mounting panel [0, for engaging the forward-upper portions of a rod received in the channel.

From the foregoing, it will be noted that I have thus provided a simple, inexpensive, yet highly effective double curtain or drapery rod bracket to which the ends of a curtain 0r drapery rod may be quickly and easily secured against accidental or unintentional displacement.

It should be understood that various changes and modifications in the structural details of the device may be made within the scope of the appendedclaim, without departing from the spirit of theinvention. I
