This invention relates to double lift double cylinder jacquards and especially to the driving and mounting means for the two jacquard cylinders.
Difficulty is often experienced in jacquards of this type in constructing the main power drive to the jacquard cylinders due to the fact that initially accurate setting is required, andfurthermore, after a given life, it is often found that there is not true engagement between the driving element and the stage by stage driven with the main drive and mounting for the two element operating each cylinder.
The main object of the present invention is to provide a double lift double cylinder jacquard including a pair of rotatable jacquard cylinders,
including a substantially central main driving W, V
therewith. The clutch bobbin 4 has two sets of shaft, a pair of shafts driven from said main shaft, said driven shafts being changeable in their position and effective length to allow adjustment of driving and mounting units between said driven shafts and the jacquard cylinders.
Another object is to provide a double lift double cylinder jacquard including a pair of rotatable jacquard cylinders, driving and mounting means for the two jacquard cylinders including a substantially central main driving shaft, a pair of shafts driven from said main shaft, said driven shafts being changeable in their effective position and length, and each being supported at its inner end by a carrier bracket supported on the main driving shaft, said construction of each driven shaft and its carrier bracket allowing adjustment of driving and mounting units between said driven shafts and the jacquardcylinder.
A further object is to provide a double lift double cylinder jacquard, including a pair of roof these two shafts are supported by bearings tatable jacquard cylinders, driving and mounting means for the two jacquard cylinders including a substantially central main driving shaft, 3, pair of telescopic shafts driven from said main shaft, a carrier bracket at the inner end of each driven shaft and supported on the main driving shaft for the driven shaft to be capable of pivotal movement, a pair of bevel gears at the outer end of each driven shaft, a driving element on the driven bevel gear engaging a stage by stage driven member secured on the shaft of one of the jacquard cylinders, and an adjustable mounting for allowing relative movement between the cylinder shaft and the axis of the driven bevel gear.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings, in which an embodiment of the invention is shown:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a jacquard including the improved cylinder driving and mounting means; l
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation showing a detail of the mounting for the cylinder drive unit;
Fig. 4 is a detail side view of the clutch in the main drive; and Fig. 5 is a fragmentary plan view, on an enlarged scale, of the mounting of the driven shafts,
As shown in the drawings the jacquard [is generally of known construction and need not be described in detail as the invention is concerned jacquard cylinders 2. The main drive shaft 3 is furnished with a clutch comprisingthe movable bobbin 4 mounted with a driving bevel gear 6 on the sleeve 1 and both in driving connection clutch teeth 8, 9, so that it can be moved by a fork IE5, which engages a relatively'wide groove Ii, either into engagement with a chain wheel l2, from which it is spring returned, or into engagement with the driver clutch part l3 secured to the main driving shaft 3. The chain wheel I2 is loose on the sleeve 1 and connected by chain M with the hand-operating gear I5 so that the cylinders can be rotated manually at will by the bobbin 4 being engaged with the chain wheel. Normally, in the position shown, motion is picked up from the main shaft by the driver I3 and. transmitted through the clutch bobbin 4 to the sleeve 1 on which is fastened the bevel gear 6. This wheel drives a pair of bevel pinions I6 attached to the ends of the telescopic shafts I I and housed in brackets [8 which are supported by the main shaft 3 so as to be able to pivot about same for adjustment purposes. The outer ends I9 attached to the ends of studs 20 which can rotate therein. Each shaft is furnished with a bevel pinion 2| meshing with a driven bevel gear 22 also mounted on the stud 20, and this bevel gear is furnished with a projecting peg 23 forming a driving element for a slotted star wheel 24 secured on the cylinder shaft 25 and forming a stage by stage driving member. Each shaft 25 is supported by a cylinder bearing 26 which is adjustably secured to a cylinder bearing bracket 21 on the jacquard framework. The bearing can be adjusted by screw 28 and clamped by a bolt 29 (or bolts) after being set. The bearing 26 has the inner end of the studZll secured thereto a clutch fork whereby considerable movement References Cited in the file of this patent is allowed for between fork and clutch part even UNITED STATES PATENTS when the clutch 1s not properly 1n engagement, to obviate damage to the clutch parts.
