The present invention relates to packaging boxes which are particularly adapted to be used in the protective packaging of suit garments or other personal wear under conditions which will preserve their shape and conventional press lines during shipment as well as during storage.

A principal object of this invention is to achieve a packaging box which may be made from flat stock sheet components profiled in accordance with the box dimensions and erectable into bottom and cover sections, after the conventional manner of such articles, but character ized by the provision of garment lashing auxiliaries which will exert firm retention for maintaining garments packaged within such boxes secure against shifting and consequent rumpling.

Another object of the present invention i to achieve a packaging box particularly appropriate for garments comprised of coat jackets and auxiliary body coverings in a manner which will preserve the conventionally normal press lines against influences of displacement such as shock or vibration which would otherwise result in wrinkling and disfigurement of pressed edges.

A further object of the present invention is to achieve a packaging box for containing two-piece articles of personal wear with a pressure element for retaining said garments in their normal hung condition and at the same time reinforcing the peripheral fold walls of the packaging box whereby to resist forces tending toward crushing or collapse.

A further object of the present invention is'to provide a packaging box for suit coat garments of either mens or womens apparel while being supported on shoulder hangers with pendant hook attachments in a manner which will permit the hook to be disposed in or out of projecting position whereby the article thus packaged may be made to serve as storage device or to occupy minimum over-all dimensional spacing in keeping with postal shipping regulations.

The foregoing and other objects are fully realized by my invention, which in its broadest aspects comprises a folded box bottom section, a folded box cover section and certain added structures.

One of these relates to suspension hook elements. Either or both of the end walls of the two sections are preferably provided with a system of notches through which there may be permitted the protrusion of a shaped Wire hook element pivotally linked to the garment support hanger when in utility position supporting the shoulder portions of the garment jacket. Adjacent the protrusion notches there are provided others which afiord re-entrant access whereby the pivoted hook element may be reinserted into the box by being swung about its link pivotal connection. In this capacity the hook element not only is made to recede from protuberance or projection beyond the normal dimension of the box tself, but in addition due to its re-entrance through one or another of a pair of slash apertures, there is afforded a locking securement to safeguard the intcrfitting relationship between the cover and bottom portions of the box.

In addition, an anchor panel is provided which extends transversely the full width of the box and terminates at its sides with saddleor fold portions adapted to straddle the box bottom side walls and a lower box bottom end wall, achieving thereby a secure, shift-free anchorage. This panel is provided with obliquely disposed slashes through which the sleeves of the jacket garment are inserted. The stationary security of the anchor panel is made to afiord comparable lashing security to the garment jacket, preventing its inadvertent displacement as through shock and vibration.

In order that my new invention may be more fully disclosed, reference is now had to the accompanying drawing, which illustrates one form of packaging box construction, together with its auxiliary apparatus, embodying the foregoing and such other principles, advantages, or capabilities as may be pointed out as this description progresses, or as are inherent in the present invention. For purposes of clarity in exposition, the following description is explicit and the accompanying drawing is detailed, but it is distinctly to be understood that such exposition and detailed illustration is not to constitute a restriction, and that my invention is not to be limited thereby.

In the annexed drawing the bottom or a box assembly is designated H, the top or cover element is designated [2, and the inserted anchor panel l3. The bottom portion of the box H may be produced from an integral sheet of relatively firm fibrous or strawboard paper stock, and. includes the perpendicularly erectable side wall sections 14 and t5 as well as the end wall sections 16 and I1. 4. A box for packaging suit coat garments which comprises top and bottom components each having side and end wall portions perpendicular to the principal plane of said components, corresponding ones of said end wall portions having coinciding notches at their center whereby during closure of said box components by placement of one upon the other an aperture is provided by the coincidence of said notches, said corresponding end wall portions having coinciding apertures adjacent said notches, in combination with a garment hanger which consists of a formed member for supporting suit coat garments having a link eyelet adapted to protrude through said aperture, and a hook element pivotally linked to said eyelet whereby to assume alternatively an erect position for pendulously supporting the box constituted of said components or to be swung pivotally about its link eyelet connection to enter and be submerged within said adjacent aperture; and a lashing plate having slots for sleeve extremities of a suit coat and fold portions to straddle bottom component wall portions other than the end wall portions having said notches.
