. This invention relates to improvements in ap paratus for wet centrifugal spinning of natural fibers disclosed in my co-pending patent application Serial No. 186,092, filed September 26, 1950.
It is an objectof the present invention to provide means for holding the yarn holder in its uppermost'position reached during the-reciprocation, at the moment that theapparatus is stopped. Y
It is another object of this invention to 'provide a container for the annulus of the yarn spun having the wall perforated with a plurality of holes and which follows the annulus during the drying thereof.
It is a further object of the invention to'provide means for winding the collected yarn into hanks.
With these and other objects in view, as will appear from the following description and drawings, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination of elements and arrangement of parts hereinafter to be fully described.
A preferred embodiment of the apparatus is illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is a diagrammatic lateral view of the yarn holder operating means;
Figure 2 is a detailed front view of the means for stopping the yarn holder in its uppermost position;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the annulus of yarn spun, and
Figure 4 is a diagrammatic lateral elevational view of the means for winding the collected yarn into hanks.
Referring to Figures 1 and 2, the reference I indicates a disc fixed to the shaft l5 whereon at least one pulley is mounted, which operates the supporting rods for the yarn holders [9. On the periphery of disc l a notch 2| is provided (Figure 3) wherein a pawl 2 may engage and which pawl is elastically mounted by meansof spring ill on the end of shaft 23 which is controlled by hand lever 3. When pawl 2 engages notch 2|, the disc I may be stopped when rod 20 and yarn holder 19 are in their uppermost position.
The disc I is put in motion by the heart-shaped cam 12 through lever I3 and the flexible and inextensible member [4 which may be formed for example by chain. On shaft l5 at least one pulley I1 is mounted on which the chain IB winds up, and chain l6 controls a relative rod. 20.
To stop the apparatus, lever 3 is moved so as to cause, through spring Hi, the pawl 2 to en- 2 v gage notch 2| of the disc I.- Since the lowering of the rod 20 and yarn holder I9 therewith takes place due to gravity, the heart-shaped cam 12 may continue to rotate without affecting yarn holder 19 which is stopped in its uppermost position. When the apparatus is again started, lever 3 is re-set in the home position and pawl 2, always through spring [8 is moved from disc I, thus permitting the latter, rod 20 and yarn holder H) to be moved. I
The annulus of yarn is spun inside the container ,ll (Figure 3) which is formed as a cylinder having a bottom with a central bore, a side wall perforated with a plurality of holes and with the upper part bent inwardly so as to generate a central bore wherein the yarn holder penetrates. By using this container it is no longer necessary, as in the apparatus disclosed in my copending application, to remove the annulus from the container to subject the annulus to drying; on the contrary, the annulus on drying remains in the container and the holes existing in the side wall thereof facilitates the drying.
After the drying of the annulus is effected, the collected yarn is wound into hanks by means of the device illustrated in Figure 4. The device includes a bracket 4 fixed to the lateral frame 5 of the apparatus. On the bracket, a plurality of spindles B are fixed having a cylindrical lower portion and a conical upper portion. Above each spindle there is mounted a yarn-guide '1 provided with a hole in line with the axis of spindle 6 and hinged to a support 8 fixed to the lateral frame 5 of the apparatus. A second yarn-guide 9, disposed above yarn guide I, serves to distribute the yarn over the reel 24.
Container H with the annulus is placed on spindle 6 and arranged in the annular seat I!) on the bracket 4. Obviously the inner bore of the annulus has to be greater than the outer diameter of spindle 6. For unwinding the annulus, the free end of the yarn is passed through the holes of yarn guides I and 9 and then brought to the reel 24. On winding the yarn into hanks the yarn at the outlet of the container II is caused to rapidly rotate so as to assume the shape of a double spindle as shown in dotted line in Figure 4. Spindle 6 has the purpose of preventing entangling of the yarn during the unwinding thereof from the annulus.
I claim:
1. In apparatus for wet centrifugal spinning of natural fibers, a vessel rotatable round it axis wherein the annulus of yarn spun is formed, a
yarn holder movable in a vertical direction up" wardly, a cam controlled shaft for moving said yarn holder upwardly, said yarn holder and shalt being movable downwardly by gravity to return to the initial position, and means manually operable for holding said yarn holder in the uppermost position when'th apparatus is stopped;-
