v 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a toy hand organ.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a toy hand organ whereby upon the turning of a crank bellows will be actuated to provide a continual flow of air through reed elements and a music roll operable over the air outlets to give a definite music pattern and whereby to dispense childrens songs automatically upon turning the crank and wherein the same crank is used to turn the music roll in order that the same can pass over the air openings.
It is another object of the invention to provide in a toy hand organ having a music roll means for automatically rewindin the music roll after the crank has been released so that at each start of a turning operation the music will be started from the beginning.
It is another object of the invention to provide a double acting bellow device operated from a double crank and effected through two intermediate members located within bellows units and wherein the movement of the bellows units is continuous and such as to provide a continual flow of air to the reed assembly and wherein the same crank serves to operate the music roll.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a toy hand organ having a music roll combined therewith which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, has a minimum number of parts, compact, and eflicient in use.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view of the toy hand organ embodying the features of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary transverse sectional view taken generally on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view looking upon the music roll and with portions of the same broken away to show the interior construction of the reed assembly and of the music roll, the view being taken generally on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken generally on line 44 of Fig. 1, and look ing generally in th direction of the arrows thereof.
Referring now to the figures, It) represents a casing in which is mounted a bellows structure I I, an organ reed assembly 12 and music roll device [3.
The bellows structure comprises upwardly converging spaced end plates 14 and 15. The upper ends of the plates l4 and [5 have transverse members l6 disposed respectively at the opposite edges of the same and connected between the plates. These members [6 respectively pivotally support operating members I1 and I8 which are respectively worked and operated by crank connecting rods l9 and 20. Two sets of bellows, indicated generally at 2| and 22 are worked in sequence. The bellows device 2! receives air through valve openings 23 and 24 disposed in the respective plates [4 and I5. Similar valve elements are located at the opposite sides of the respective plates to control the inflow of air to the bellows 22. On the plate 14 there are provided outlet air valves 25 which delivers air to a chamber 26 provided by a transverse bracket member 27. This air is delivered from the chamber 26 through connector pipe 28 extending from the chamber laterally through the plate 15 for delivery to the mouth organ device l2 to operate the same. On the plate l5 are outlet valves 29 for delivering air to the organ device. The organ is surrounded by a casing 30 and the air moves through the organ device according to the opening and closing of opening 3| in the casing 30 in response to movement of the music roll sheet 32.
The connecting rods l9 and 2|] are connected to a double crank 34 having a handle arm 36 thereon extending exteriorly of the casing l0.
On the double crank is a pulley 31 which drives through pulley belt 38 a pulley 39 for operating the roll 4| by means of the shaft 40. The upper roll, as indicated at 42, is carried on a shaft 43 extending between the sides of the casing to and has an arm 44 which is anchored by a screw 45 to the outer side of the casing. A spring 46 is anchored to the shaft 43 and is connected to the roll 42 and will tend to return the roll paper 32 to the roll 42 upon release of the crank arm 36. The music paper has the usual perforations 41 which control the openings 3 I.
A hand latch 48 operated by a handle 49 can be placed on a pin 50 so as to prevent the return rotation of the music paper. A tension spring 51 urges the latch member 48 against the pin 50 when the latch member is pulled downwardly upon engagement therewith. The latch member can be easily moved relative to the casing to release the same from the pin 50 or to engage with it.
It should now be apparent that there has been provided a double acting dual bellows arrangement whereby a continual flow of air can be presented to the mouth organ device and wherein the casing surrounding the mouth organ device which is carried upon the bellows structure I 4 and which houses the accordion type organ has openings therein over which the music paper sheet from rolls 42 pass and wherein the crank which operates the bellows device also operates the music roll.
A carrying strap 53 connected to the sides of the casing by members 54 so as to permit the toy organ to be carried from the shoulder.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the ap-' pended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed thenature of my invention, what is claimed is:
A toy hand organ comprising; a; casing, a bellows structure disposed in the casing, an accordion operating the bellows device and the music roll, said bellows structure comprising upwardly extending converging plates, swing plate members depending between said upwardly extending plates, bellows elements connected to the respective swing plate members, said upwardly extending plates having inlet valves for receiving air and outlet valves for expelling the air upwardly, a chambermeansextending across one of the said upwardly extending plates for receiving the air and a transverse conduit extending between the said upwardly extending plates for receiving air from the chamber and delivering the same to the front casing and the outlet valves on one of the upwardly extending members delivering air directly to said organ casing.
