This inventionrelates to ,.a'icemeteryf vase, and" more particularly to. a.` support my awcemetryj vase which may support` the vase, inta .concealed position on a `cemetery lot., and Willi supporti th vase, in an extended .or4 exposed position..`
It! is any object... ofs this invention. to provide aj cemeterylvase, of` the .kind to be .more particularly, described `hereinafter having. areceptaole i thereforrwhichsis adaptedtobefengaged in `,thegrrouncl l on ,a cemetery lot, on the like, the cemetery vase beinghingedlymountedon the reeeptacldtoib'e contained therein when the cemeteryilo'tiis.being mowed .or othen work .being ,performedon tli'e lot,` andsthe vase maybe extended.fromthe recap,- tacle; to be supportedthereonwhen Aflowers are to be displayed.
Another object of this invention is to provide a*- combinedcemeteryvase and receptacle therefor of` this .kind, fwherein the vase is hingedly, mountedwithinthe., receptacle' to be concealed therein"l by enclosure member liingedl'y mounted 'onithe receptacle and supported` in `an extended *positionby theclosurememb'er in a selected`," juxta' posed relation between `the closure membenfand'fthe vase.
A frther object of 'thisinvention is tprovide" a concealablecemet'eryvase and 'receptacle there for, ,ofthe kind to be described 'hereinafterfwhic may be `formed at'a relatively low. priceoffsubistantially conventional type and frnfr ofimatee rial; while' providing; a suitable and desirable cemetery, vase andsupport, iwliereinthe vase may be substantially i'iedin its 'position in thecem@ teryplot to be concealed within theigroundwhen' it isnot desired 'to b'e used 'forsupportingjflowersz Siich` a combination provides for theconcealingi of-tllie vase when. the cemetery lot is b'eingworked upon ori when the flowers have been removedI from the Vase, and. tlie .vase may be submergedJ into the receptacle. toprevent the stealing of "the vase, as by vandals or thelike.
With the above and `otl'erobjeots in view', my invention `consists intl`e"arrangement," combination .ands detai1s ;of constru'ction disclosed 'inthe drawings .and specioation; and I thenj'A more par= ticularly. pointedout in the "appenolecik'zlnlns:A

bodiinent vof this invention, with* th' `vasewitliiri 'eno " for engagement '.in 'thergroundbf 'iatcemeteryiplt-I in Figure 1 of the drawings. Flanges 25 are formed along the longitudinally extending side edges of the closure member 2| and are adapted to overlie the outer surface of the side walls I6 and I1 in the closed position of the closure member 2|. The flanges 25 are spaced apart transversely of the closure member 2| a distance greater than the width of the receptacle II and substantially constitute a stop member or limiting means for limiting v the `swinging of the closure member 2| from a horizontal position overlying the upper open side of the receptacle II to a vertically extending or other outwardly extending position of the closure member relative to the receptacle.
A second closure member 26 is hingedly mounted on the other end of the upper open side of the receptacle Il and is adapted to be swingably supported for swinging from a vertically extending open or extended position to a, horizontally extending closed position. In the closed position of the latter closure member 26, the first-mentioned closure member 2| will partially overlie the free, confronting edge of the other closure member 26, as clearly noted in the drawings. The closure member 26 is hingedly mounted on. the hinge 21 fixed on the upper free edge of the other end wall I4 and longitudinally extending side flanges 28 are formed on the side edges of the closure member 26for overlying the outer sides ofthe upper free edges of the side walls I6 and I1 of the receptacle |I in the closed -position of the closure member 26.
A flat plate or supporting member 29 is fixed on the lower edge of the second-mentioned closure member 26 adjacent the hinge 21, as clearly noted in Figures 1 and 4 of the drawings. The supporting member or plate 29 is extended perpendicularly to the plane of the closure member 26 to be concealed within the receptacle I I in the closed position of the closure member 26. The supporting plate 29 is of a length greater than the distance between the free edge of the first-mentioned closure member 2| and the hinge 21 for the closure plate 26, so that in the open position of the closure member 26, the lower or free edge of the supporting member `29 will overlie the confronting edge of the closure member 2| for supporting the supporting plate in a horizontal position overlying the upper open side of the receptacle I I, as clearly noted in Figure 1 of the drawings.
A ower vase 30 is xedly supported at the upper side of the supporting member 29 on the lower side of the closure member 26, so that in the extended position of the supporting member 29 and the closure member 26, the vase 36 will be supported in an upwardly extending, vertical position above the receptacle I I, as clearly noted in Figure 1 of the drawings.
For supporting a flag or other pennant on a supporting rod or stick, a suitable brace member 3| is xedly supported on the under side of the closure member 2 6 adjacent the vase 30 so that the flag, not shown in the drawings, may have the supporting pole thereof extended through the U-shaped clamp 3|, the lower end of -the pole to be rested on the upper surface of the supporting member 29.
In the use and operation of the combined cemetery vase and support therefor, the receptacle II is initially engaged in the4 ground with. the upper edges of the side and end walls thereof substantially ush with the surface of the adjacent ground G. Inthe concealed position of 4 the vase 3|), the vase will be disposed horizontally within the receptacle, as clearly noted in Figure 4 of the drawings, the supporting member depending in a vertical position from the horizontally disposed closure member 26. The other closure member 2| is disposed in a horizontal position, as the horizontal closure member 26, the free edge of the closure member 2| partially overlying the free edge of the adjacent edge of the closure member 2B, as clearly shown in Figure 4 of the drawings. In this concealed position of the vase I2, the entire assembly |Il is disposed at least flush with the ground, so that mowers, or
other agricultural implements employed in the upkeep of the cemetery lot may be suitably passed over the combination I0 and the vase or receptacle will in no manner interfere with the operation of the implement.
When it is desired to extend the vase I2 for supporting flowers by the grave, the closure member 2| is initially raised to an open or partially open position, and they vase |2 is hingedly swung about the hinge 21 to its extended position. The closure member 2| is then replaced in its closed position and the supporting member 29 is lowered to a horizontal position where a portion or lower edge of the supporting member 29 will overlie the adjacent end of the top surface of the closure member 2| for supporting the other closure member 26 in a vertical position, clearly noted in Fgure 1 of the drawings, and the vase I2 also in a vertical position for holding the flowers in the desired position.
I do not mean to conne myself to the exact details of construction herein disclosed, but claim all variations falling within the purview of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a cemetery vase, a generally rectangular receptacle having an open top, a first closure member hinged at one end on an end of the top of the receptacle to swing downwardly from an elevated open position to a closed position overlying the top of the receptacle, a second closure member hinged at one end to the opposite end of the receptacle to swing downwardly from an elevated open position tov a closed position overlying the top of the receptacle, said rst and second closure members having means thereon engageable with the receptacle to prevent downward swinging thereof below their closed positions and to maintain said closure members in receptacle closing position, said closure members having free ends and the combined length of said closure members being greater than the length of the receptacle whereby said free ends overlap in the closed positions of said closure members. a support member on and projecting at right angles from the underside of one of said closure members, and a ower urn mounted on said support member and extending generally parallel to said one closure member.
2. In a cemetery vase, a generally rectangular receptacle having an open top, a first closure member hinged at one end on an end of the top of the receptacle to swing downwardly from an elevated open position to a closed position overlying the top of the receptacle, a second closure member hinged at one end to the opposite end of the receptacle to swing downwardly from an elevated open position to a closed position overlying the top of the receptacle, said first and second closure members having means thereon engageable with the receptacle to prevent downward swinging thereof below their closed positions and to maintain said closure members in receptacle closing position, said closure members having free ends and the combined length of said closure members being greater than the length of the receptacle whereby said free ends overlap in the closed positions of said closure mem bers, a support member on and projecting at right angles from the underside of one of said closure members, and a flower urn mounted on said support member and extending generally parallel to said one closure member, said rst closure member being arranged to normally occupy a position with its free edge overlapping the free edge of the second closure member in the closed positions of the closure members, said rst closure member having a handle on its upper side adjacent to its free end, said support member and flower urn being on said second closure member whereby said rst closure member is adapted to be swung upwardly by means of said handle to free said second closure member to be swung upwardly to open position and place the urn in erect position above the receptacle and return said rst closure member to closed position, said support member having a free end adapted to rest upon said rst closure member to maintain said second closure member in open position.
