Description

V. T. CREEGAN May 5, 1953 GLAZING CLIP Filed NOV. 13, 1950 INVENTUR.

VIN CENT T. CREEGAN BY MA IM ATTORNEYS i atented May 5, 1953 NITED STATE$ GLAZING CLIP corporation of Michigan Application November 13, 1950, Serial No. 195,465

(61. Mill- 38) 3 Claims. 1

Ihe invention relates to glazing clips and has for its object the obtaining of a construction which may be formed as a stam ing from sheet material having a degree of resiliency such, for instance, as sheet metal.

It is a further obiect to obtain a construction which can be quickly engaged with a window frame to firmly hold in position a pane of glass seated in said frame.

With these and other advantageous objects in view. the invention consists in the contruction as hereinafter set forth.

In the drawings:

Fig. 1 is a perspective View of a portion of a window frame having a pane of glass seated there n showing my improved clip in position for securing said pane:

Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the clip;

Fig. 3 is a plan view thereof Fig. 4 is an end elevation;

Fig. 5 is a section through an angle bar of a window sash with one edge portion of a pane of glass seated thereon and showing the manner of initially engaging the clip with said frame bar;

Fig. 6 is a similar view showing the clip in position for locking the pane upon its seat;

Fig. 7 is a plan view of the blank as severed from the sheet material prior to the fashioning of the same.

improved glazing clip is stamped from resilient material such, for instance, as sheet metal. The blank severed from the sheet material includes an oblong rectangular portion A with a rectan ular portion 13 of lesser length extending laterally from one edge thereof and with a tongue C projecting outward from the portion B. The portion B is slitted at D. D to increase the length of the tongue C, and the opposite ends of the portion A are slitted at E and E. The portion 13 is bent to extend substantially at ri ht angles to the portion A and the latter is bowed to have a central portion F of the length of the portion B. downwardly inclined portions G, G terminatin in bearing ortions H, H on the outer sides of the slits E, E for contact with the glass. The portions 1, I on the opposite side of the slits E, which are narrower than the portions H, H, are bent downward to a greater extent and as later described form detents for holding the clip in locked position. The tongue C is bent outward at the inher ends of the slits D. D' and then upward to form in connection With portions outside the slits D, D a bifurcation J.

In use a pane of glass K is engaged with the sash frame, being seated on a gasket L on the flange M of the sash bar M which bar has an outwardly extending flange M apertured as at M for the engagement of the clip therewith. The bifurcated portion .1 of the clip has its outer furcation J inserted through the aperture lvl when the clip is obliquely inclined with respect 2 to the frame and glass, the portions H, H, I, I being outside of the glass. The clip is then pressed towards the frame bar which will spring upward the portions H, H, I, I permitting the porticn B to be moved into contact with the flange M of the frame bar. When it reaches this position, the portions 1, 1' will spring into the crevice N, which is between the edge of the pane and the flange M thus forming detents for holding the clip in this position.

It is obvious that the clip thus positioned will have its spaced bearing portions H and 1-1 resilently yieldably pressed against one face of the pane to press the opposite face thereof into seal= ing contact with the gasket L. The detents I and 1' will hold the clip in position and the bifurcated portion J having its furcations on opposite sides of the flange M will prevent disengagement from the frame.

What I claim as my invention is:

1. A glazing clip for securing a transparent pane to a frame, which latter has a bar parallel to one edge of said pane forming a seat therefor and also extending outward beyond and transverse to the plane of said pane; comprising a resilient elongated bowed member formed of pressed sheet material having an anchor projecting laterally from the central portion of the bow adapted for engaging a bored aperture in said bar when said bowed member is positioned to extend longitudinally thereof and adjacent thereto and is pressed against said pane, the resilient opposite end portions of the bow contacting said pane and having detents for engaging the edge thereof.

2. The construction as in claim 1 in which said projecting anchor is hook shaped and is engageable with said aperture when said bowed member is obliquely inclined to the plane of said pane, after which said contacting ends of the bow may he slid over said pane until said detents snap into engagement with the edge of the pane.

3. The construction as in claim 1 in which said anchor includes a portion extending at right angles to the central portion of said how and bearing against the outward portion of said bar, and also a portion projecting laterally from the upper end of the aforesaid portion which engages said aperture in said bar.

VINCENT T. CREEGAN.
