Description

R. L. FORTNER ET AL March 3l, 1953 GARMENT HANGER Filed April 29, 1949 Forfi .former @IQ Eer/.verf L Perrin awww Patented Mar. 31, 1953 l Y UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,633,277 GAR-MENT HANGER Robert L. Fortner, Glendale, and Herbert L. Perrin, Tujunga, Calif., assignors to Fortner and Perrin Inc., Glendale, Calif., a corporation of California Application April 29, 1949, Serial No. 90,504 3 Claims. (Cl. 223-96) This invention relates to a garment hanger tially straight wire lengths 5 and 6 arranged in which iS especially designed fOI` SUDDOI'ting ladies" opposed side by side relation and spot Welded skirts, but may also be used for Supporting slacks. together as at 1 centrally of their ends at which;
trousers and other garments. point the shank 8 of the hook B is Joined In One of the objects of this invention is the 5 the present case the hook is an integral part of provision of a simply constructed and COmDaCt the wire portion 5. In this connection 1t should garment hanger Whloh 1s made from a Smgle be noted that the length 5 of the wire is 1n length of wire 1n a partloularly efficacious mantwo sections welded together as the point 1 wheredescribed in various sizes and thicknesses of 10 ence to Figs 1 and 2 it, w1'11 be seen that the held by the hanger.
Another object is to provide a hanger such as abuts and is welded to the shank 8 of the hook above described in which the construction and at weld joint 1,
From strength and rigidity that the hanger may be the body portion A and the hook B are welded Another object is to providein a hanger such ends thel clamps C depend. These clamps are as `descr ed, novel clamps formed of portions produced from continuous portions of the single quickly and Conveniently operated for clamping apart to correspond to said ends, short and simiments engaged by the clamps. the end portions 9, opposed garment clamping With the foregOing objects in view, together portions Il which extend upwardly from the With such Other Objects and advantages as may inner ends of the portions I0, and curved cross subsequently appear, the invention resides in portions l2 connecting the upper ends of the the parts and in the combination, construction clamping portions l I Thus, the portions Il and and arrangement of parts hereinafter described l2 form inverted U-shaped clamps the upper ends and claimed, and illustrated by way of example (portions l2) of which extend between and slighth the aCCOmDanying drawing, in which: 85 ly above and abut the wire lengths 5 and S of Fig. lis aperspective view of agarment hanger the body portion so that the clamps are held made in accordance with our invention, against lateral displacement and the clamps as Fig 2 is a side elevation of the hanger, well as entire hanger are given deslred rigidity Fig 3 is an end view of the hanger, and while having free resilient action The portions Fig. 4 is a Sectional View taken on the line 4-4 40 l I are bent inwardly between their ends so as of Fig. 2. to substantially contact one another and provide As shown in the accompanying drawing one closely spaced garment-gripping jaws I4.
form o garment hanger embodying the present The downwardly bent end portions 9 and the leld in suspended position subject to removal the clamping portions apart. ys readily and easily as they may be applied Due to the particular formation of the clamps a the hanger. C and the location thereof inwardly of the por- The body portion A is formed of two substantions 9, waist bands of garments such as skirts and trousers of any length may be effectively gripped by the clamping portions H, as any garment portions of greater length than the hanger will be guided outwardly between the portions 9 and held in place thereby.
Preferably the wire made is not fully tempered and may be spr-,ung or bent as tothe clamping portions il and `portions 9 to increase the spacing thereof to accommodate garments of different thicknesses and subsequently bent back to more closely spaced relation but will have sufficient resilience to eiect a desired clamping action regardless of these adjustments.
Due to the manner in which the parts ci. the hanger are bent, relatively arranged and interrelated, desired rigidity and `strength are provided and adequate springaction of the clamps is had with the use of small gauge wire `which need not be tempered to the extent of temper found inthe usual spring wire, :and in addition, provision is made as hereinbefore noted for adjusting or spreading apart and bending back t0 normal shape the clampsC to accommodate garments of different thicknesses and sizes.
In the use of vthe hanger the portion garment to be gripped and Yheld can be Amoved endwise "into the clamps C Abetween the opposed end portions 8 and the clamping portion :ll `or the garment can be'moved upwardly between the portions H and Y9 orthe downwardly onto the garment. In all cases .the garment will lbe quickly and secured gripped and held due primarily'to the formation of the ciamping members il and their location to the wire lengths 5 and 6 and fthe end portions 9.
'While we have shown and described a specific invention we :do :not limit ourselves to the exact details of construction set forth, and the invention embraces such changes, modifications and equivalents lof Ythe parts and their formation and arrangement as comewithin the purview ofthe appended claims.
We claim:
l. In a garment hanger a pair vof longitudinally extending spaced'wire arms, a hook'forsuspending the hanger fixed to said arms at a point with respect of the arm ends, clamps hanger arms rising of the arms substantially centrally formed from portions of the upwardly between adjacent the ends laterally with respect to the opposite sides of the hanger arms and the hanger arms having portions .extending downwardly `beyond the clamps, each downwardly extending arm portion being connected to the lower portion of the correspondling side of the clamp.
2. In a garment hanger a pair of longitudinally extending spaced wire arms, a hook for suspending -the hanger fixed to said arms at a point substantially centrally of the arm ends, spring clamps integral with the hanger arms rising upwardly between the opposite sides of the hanger opening laterally sides of the arms, portions of the hanger arms extending downwardly beyond the clamps and each of said portions lhaving its lower end connected to the ,slower portion of the corresponding side of the clamp.
3. In a garment hanger a pair nally extending spaced wirearms, a hookorsuspending the hanger fixed `to said arms ata point substantially centrally of the varm ends, va single garment clamp at each end of the hanger interposed between the arm ends and having jaws disposed laterally with respect to the opposite'sides of the arms, portions of the arms ,extending beyond the garment clamps, one of which extends downwardly and the other of which extends inwardly therefrom and is connectedito .the lower portion of the corresponding side .of the clamp.
