JOHN G. 'rREADwELn or ALBANY,` NEW YORK.` p i l STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 26,808, dated November 29, 185.9.`
To all whom/t may concern: x
Be it known that I, J No. G. TREADWELL, of the city and county of Albany and State of New York, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Ventilating-Stoves, of which the following isla full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l represents a Vertical section of a stove and pipe embracing my improvements. Fig. 2 represents a side "elevation of the same. Fig. 3 represents a plan of thelpipe and Ventilating flue. f
The nature of my invention consists in casting a Ventilating flue immediately under and in contact with the bottom of the stove, which communicates at the rear ofthe stove i VVitha` vertical Hue passing up through the smoke pipe and entering the chimney, thus p creating an independent Ventilating draft from the room. i
In the accompanying drawings A represents the cylindrical frame and bottom of a stove usually constructed of castiron. On the bottom of this stoVe the horizontal Ventilatin ue B is formed, and `communicates with the vertical flue D at the rear of the stove. The Ventilating lue B when cast with the frame or bottom of the stove, may be formed with an elbow at its rear end on which to lit the vertical ue D which is usually manufactured of sheet iron.
The flue B, from its close contactwith the stove is thoroughly heated and the air as it enters is rarefied and passes up through the flue B, which, passing up through the center" i of the smoke pipe `C,`is3 surroundedby the t, L heat within it, sothat thegrarefaction of the air is continued throughout the entirepas-f 401 sage of the ues, and thus a strong and free y Y draft is created to Ventilate the room, The mouth of the flueBFisprovided1 with aldoor` in or Valve F, so that the Ventilatingdraftmay y y y be regulated at pleasure. When the draft of 53" the stove is shuto, the Ventilating draft ac-l y Celera-tes the cooling of thestoVe.` The lvenl-l` f1 tilating draft being entirely independentofn and regulated without `:affecting the stove 5 3 draft, the Ventilation of `the room may be" regulated as circumstances require. t g A recess E is formed in the rearof` the i stoVe and through this recess thesmoke pipe i, C communicates withthe stove and leas/tab]` y lishes a draft from thefre, the hotair andf` smoke completely gsurronndinglithe flue" which passes up through; the pipe, and keep ing it continually hot.` I 3 f,
I-IaVing thuslfully described my invention p, what I claim as new anddesiretofsecurebyf` Letters Patent is- `1 y y ,i i The arrangementpof thestove A, flue 1B`,g t door F,llue D,a1id smokepipe C, where the" flue B, is secured "to orinadea` part ofthe y underside, or bottom of the` stove, the several V55@ parts being connected and constructed, sub1-yf: i stantially as andl for the `purpose 1 specified. p i p i JN0; afTiafrApwiiuif1 f
