This invention relates to dish washing machines of the type in which the wash chamber is arranged on a sink so as to leave space enough for the basket for receiving the articles to be washed, to be placed on the sink in front of the wash chamber, and in which the remaining parts of the dish washing machine, such as the motor, the pump and the water tank, are disposed below the sink.
More particularly the invention relates to baskets for such dish washing machines and of the type consisting of wire material and provided with a number of adjacent compartments for plates and the like.
The object of the invention is to provide a new type of basket of the kind mentioned by which an improved washing result is attained by enabling big plates and small plates and saucers,
when positioned in the compartments of the basket, to occupy substantially the same inclined position, whereby they do not cover each other or prevent the water jets from hitting the articles to be washed.
To this end, according to certain features of this invention, there is provided a basket for receiving the articles to be washed in a dish washil'ig machine and having a frame work formed into separate compartments and comprising a frame, U-shaped supporting members fixed to said frame at the upper ends of their upwardly directed legs, compartment separating members also in the form of U-shaped members, the legs of said U-shaped compartment separating members being arched upwardly and outwardly, the outer ends thereof being fixed to said frame, and the lower portions of said last-mentioned U- shaped members being fixed to said U-shaped supporting members.
The basket is preferably so dimensioned that only one single row of plates can be received therein.
Owing to this special formation of the dish washing basket a superior washing result is attained.
One embodiment of the invention will be elucidated more in detail, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 shows a cross section through a sink with a wash chamber arranged thereon and a dish washing basket according to the invention placed in front thereof.
Fig. 2 on a larger scale shows a vertical section through the basket and the front edge of the sink.
Fig. 3 shows a vertical section through one end wall of the wash chamber and a side view of the basket.
Fig. 4 shows a plan view of the basket.
Referring to the drawings, a wash chamber 3 of a dish washing machine is arranged on a sink 3 Claims. (Cl. 220-19) 2 I which is provided at its front edge with a longitudinal bead 2. The other details of the dish washing machine are not shown. On the front side of the wash chamber there is arranged a vertically displaceable door 4 covering an aperture through which a dish washing basket 5 may be inserted. As is evident from Fig. l, the dimensions are such that the dish washing basket may be placed longitudinally of the sink 2 along the front edge thereof.
The basket which is made of wire material comprises a rectangular frame 6 and two U- shaped supporting members 'I which at the upper ends of their upwardly directed legs 8 are welded to the side portions of the frame spaced from the end portions 9 of the frame. The horizontal portions of the supporting members 1 are given the form of runners with inclined and well rounded-off portions Ill adjacent the legs 8. Two slightly spaced longitudinal rods II are at their ends welded to the runners. The compartments I2 for receiving the articles I3 to be washed are separated by U-shaped members I4, the legs I5 of which are arched upwardly and inwardly and are at their outer ends fixed to side portions of the frame 6. The U-shaped members I4 are at their lower portions welded to the rods II.
On account of the special formation of the legs I5 of the U-shaped members I4, small saucers as well as plates of ordinary size will occupy substantially the same inclined position, as is seen from Fig. 3. The small saucers will thereby rest against one longitudinal member of the frame, one leg I 5 and one red I I. The plates rest only against the legs I5 and the rods I I.
The end portions 9 of the frame project slightly outward from the U-shaped supporting members I and serve as supports for the basket when it is inserted in the wash chamber. In said chamber the end portions 9 each rest on a bracket I'I projecting into the wash chamber from one side wall I6 thereof. Due to the upwardly bent portions II] of the supporting members I the basket, when inserted in the wash chamber, will easily slide over mounting member I8 (Figs. 1 and 2) for the wash chamber 3, which may be provided on the sink I. When being removed from the wash chamber, the basket will slide gently onto the bead 2 so that no shocks are produced, and thus damage to the articles having been washed is effectively prevented.
Iclaim:
1. A basket for receiving articles to be washed in the wash chamber of a dish washing machine, said basket being divided into a plurality of adjacent compartments for receiving said articles, said basket comprising a rectangular frame, U- shaped supporting members having the upper ends of their upwardly directed legs fixed to said frame at points disposed inwardly from the end portionsiof saidframe, said frame extending beyond said supporting members to serve as supports for said basket when inserted in said wash chamber, the lower portions of. said supporting members having the shape of runners with rounded-off portions adjacent saidlegscompartment separating members also innthe form of U-shaped members, the legs .of said =1ast=mentioned members being spaced inwardly-from the sides of the basket, arched upwardly 'and inwardly and at their outer ends fixed to said frame, longitudinal members fixed to" the upper sides of the runner-shaped lower portions of said supporting members and the lower sides of the lower portions of said last-mentioned U-shaped membersbeing rigidly'connected to thetopside of said i longitudinal members.
2. :A basket 'for receivingarticels to be washed in the wash chamber of a dish washing machine, said'basket being divided into a plurality of. adjacent compartments for :receiving .said' articles, said basket comprising a rectangular frame, U-shaped supporting members having the upper ends of their upwardly directed legs fixed: to said frame at points disposed inwardlyfrom the end portions of. said frame, said frame extending beyondsaid' supporting members to serve as supports for. said basket when'inserted in said wash chamber, the lower portions. of said supporting members having the shape of runners "with rounded-ofi portions adjacent said legs, compartment separating members also in the. form of U-shaped membersthe legs of said last-mentioned'members'being spaced inwardly from-the sides of the basket, arched upwardly and .inwardlyand 'attheir outer ends being fixedto saidframe, and rod means secured in spaced relation between said supporting members to the upper sides of the runner-shaped lower portions thereof, the lower side of the lower portions of said arched U-shaped members being fixed to the top side of said rod means.
3. A basket for receiving articles to be washed in the wash chamber of a dish washing machine, said basket being divided into a plura1ity-ofadjacent compartments for'receivingsaid articles,
