DEVICE FOR CONFINING THE THREAD BALLOON 0F PAYING-OFF BOBBINS Filed Feb. 28, 1951 INVENTOR. Zamberlus Ze ffrdke 21 W M w Attorneys.
Patented Dec. 9, 1952 DEVICE FOR CONFINING THE THREAD BALLOON F PAYING-OFF BOBBINS Lambertus te Strake, Deurne, Netherlands Application February 28, 1951, Serial No. 213,131 In the Netherlands April 29, 1950 4 Claims.
The invention relates to a device for confinin the thread balloon of paying-oil bobbins of creels, in which a guiding member, e. g, a ring or collar is provided concentrically around the axis of the paying-off bobbin.
It often occurs that the strongly twined yarns, such as crape yarn, are very active with a certain moisture degree of the air and form so many loops that when warping they jump out of the anti-balloon device, which naturally is very annoying and causes thread breakage.
The purpose of the invention is to remove this objection and to furnish a device which not only catches the thread loops jumping out of the antiballoon device, but also prevents the forming of the loops.
According to the invention this is attained in that between the anti-balloon device and the thread-eye a shield is arranged, with which the thread comes in touch after a balloon has been formed, so that by the shield a braking action is exerted on the thread.
A practical embodiment is obtained according to the invention in that the shield is provided in the anti-balloon device as a separate insert and is removable at will from same. Preferably the shield is covered by a piece of felt or a patch of rugged fabric.
According to the invention it is also possible to make the shield of a material with such properties that owing to the friction of the thread which strokes along the same static electricity is generated in such a way that the thread is braked off during its motion.
The invention will be elucidated by an embodi ment shown in the drawing.
Fig. 1 is a side view of an anti-balloon device of the known art.
Fig. 2 is a view in perspective of a device according to Fig. 1, provided with an insert according to the invention.
Fig. 3 is a view in perspective of the insert, made as a shield.
The thread 2 which is pulled from the bobbin l via the thread eye 3 by its high velocity forms a balloon defined by the device 4.
According to the invention a shield 5 is placed in the anti-balloon device 4. Owing to the fact that the shield is bent in only one direction and the bending axis is perpendicular to the axis of the anti-balloon device the shield extends with in the surface of the device 4.
The thread 2 which each time slides along the shield is braked off by the friction, thus preventing the forming of large loops with active threads such as crape yarns and preventing the thread from jumping out of the anti-balloon device.
The shield 5 possesses an edge 6 for connection to the anti-balloon device or about the frame of the creel.
In order to increase the friction, the shield may be covered by a piece of felt or a patch of rugged fabric. It is possible as well to manufacture the shield of plastic, ebonite or similar material generating static electricity by the friction with the thread, said electricity exerting a braking action on the thread.
I claim:
1. A thread anti-balloon device for defining the thread balloon of paying-off bobbins of creels, comprising a guiding member arranged concentrically around the axis of the paying-off bobbin,
said device having a thread-eye for removal of thread therefrom, a shield between the antiballoon device and the thread-eye contactable by the thread after a thread balloon has been formed, said shield being adapted to exert a braking action on the thread.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1, said shield being a separate insert in the anti-balloon device and removable therefrom.
3. A device as claimed in claim 2, and wherein the shield is covered with a piece of material for enhancing the friction qualities thereof.
4. A device as claimed in claim 1, said-shield being constructed of a material which upon friction with the thread strokin therealong creates static electricity, whereby the motion of the thread is braked.
