My present invention relates to a container and dispenser arrangement and more particularly to a pocket cigarette container and dispenser.

An object of the present invention is to provide a pocket conforming crush-proof and moisture-proof container for cigarettes and the like.

Another object is to provide a dispensing means in a cigarette container for ejecting or dispensing one cigarette at a time.

The above and other objects and advantages of the present invention will appear more fully hereinafter from a consideration of the detailed description which follows, taken together with the accompanying drawings wherein one embodiment of the invention is illustrated. It is to be expressly understood, however, that the drawings are for the purpose of illustration only and are not designed as a definition of the limits of the invention. Reference for this latter purpose should be had to the appended claim.

Figure 5 is a front elevation, a portion near the top of the view being in section to show the bead adjacent the upper edge of the body portion, and the groove for said bead, the groove being adjacent the lower edge of the slidable cover for the device.

Figure 6 is a sectional view in which dotted lines indicate the outward or forward limit of the cover when it is slid forward to permit loading the device with cigarettes,. while the somewhat heavier dotted lines above the cover show the lifted position of the cigarette as it is dispensed by the dispenser member which is activated by moving upwardly the little button protruding from the front of the body portion of the invention.

Figure 7 is a sectional view taken on the line l-l of Figure 6, showing the full pack of cigarettes contained within the body of the device, with one cigarette shown in position to be lifted from the same, by means of the dispenser member above mentioned.

Figure 8 is a perspective view of the dispenser member as seen from the rear, or from the inside face as assembled.

Figure 9 is a fragmentary top plan view showing the cover as moved forward to permit the loading of the device with cigarettes.

Referring to the drawings and first with particular reference to Figures 5 and 6, my invention includes an oblong container l0 open at the top having flat sides II and I2, rounded ends [3 and I4 and a bottom portion [5 formed with a relatively small countersunk depression is having an opening l1.

One rounded end M of the container is preferably made to converge into a nose or rounded apex l8 and is cut through to form an elongated slot [9, see Fig. 5, intermediate and perpendicular to the bottom and top edge of the container. Mounted for sliding movement in the slot is a headed rivet 20. The headless end of the rivet is secured to the leg of an L-shaped ejector bar Zlcurved transversely to conform to the round nose l8 of end l4 and so that the foot 22 of the ejector bar will seat within the countersunk depression l 6 over the opening I! when the headed rivet is at the lower end of the slot 19, as in Fig. 6.

The L-shaped ejector or dispenser 2| when the foot 22 is seated in the depression [6 extends about three-fourths of the height of the container I0 and when the rivet is slid upward in the slot I9 will just slightly project above the container rim as shown in dotted lines in Figure 6. This is suflicient to selectively eject or dispense a cigarette from the container IIJ through a spring bias trap lid 24, see Figs. 1, 3 and 6.

The trap lid 2-4 swings outward on a hinge 25 against the action of a spring 26 around the hinge. The hinge connects the trap lid 24 to a slidably mounted main container cover 21.

The cover 21 is formed on each side with elongated grooves 28 and 29, each of which snugly fit over elongated lugs 30. These lugs 30 are substantially one-half the length of the grooves and serve as stops for the cover when it is moved forward to open position as shown in Figures 6 and 9, or when moved to closed position as in Fig. 1.

When the cover is in forward open position the container It may be filled with cigarettes from a standard size package. After filling the container the cover is closed and the cigarettes may now be singly ejected or dispensed by pushing upward on the headed rivet 20. This is because the cigarettes are movable into the nose it of the end l4 so that one cigarette will always rest on the foot 22 of the transversely curved ejector bar.

When the ejector hoists a cigarette to dispensing position, the foot 22 uncovers opening I! in depression l6 and any loose tobacco will readily drop out of the opening and eliminate the chance of interference with the snug seating or nesting of the foot 22 in the countersunk depression I6.

The head of the rivet 29 may be capped with a button and the shank under the head formed into a reduced neck portion for more efficient action in the slot I9, if desired. And the spring of the trap lid 24 is very light so as to ofier only slight resistance to the end of a cigarette being dispensed.

Without further description, it is believed that my invention is clearly understandable to others and while only one embodiment has been described, it is to be expressly understood that various arrangements and combinations of the parts, which may now occur to others skilled in this art are likewise to be considered a part hereof. To determine the scope of my invention, reference should be had to the appended claim.

What I claim is:

A cigarette dispensing container having flat side walls and a, bottom portion having a depression therein and an opening smaller than the depression, one curved end wall and one end wall which converges into a rounded nose serving to position a single cigarette into dispensing position, said container being open at the top, an elongated slot formed in the rounded nose end wall of the container extending intermediate the bottom and top thereof, a headed rivet with a reduced neck slidable between the walls of said slot; the shank end of the rivet being secured to an ejector member, said ejector member having a transverse curved leg conforming to the interior of said rounded nose at one side and to the circumference of a cigarette on the other side, and a foot portion at substantially right angles to the leg for supporting a, cigarette to be dispensed, said foot portion of the ejector means being contained in the depression of the bottom of the container and covering the opening in the bottom thereof, a slidable top for the container having a spring urged auxiliary lid carried in the top thereof to be pushed open by a cigarette raised on the ejector when the headed rivet is moved to the upper end of said slot, with means for retaining the cover on the container, said means comprising elongated lugs on each side wall of the container co-acting with grooves formed in the side Walls of the cover of the container, the grooves in the side walls of the top of the container being substantially twice the length of the lugs formed on the walls'of the container.
