Distributor locking mechanism Secured to the spark adjuster or diaphragm housing I4, is an anchor plate 48 having an outwardly projecting portion or ratchet arm I) that is formed with a slot 52. Y
A support bracket 54 mounted on the engine I and beneath the arm 50 is provided with an upstanding lug or pin 56 that is received in the slot 52.
The bracket 54 forms a support for a further bracket 58 to which there is pivoted a pawl 60 that is adapted to engage the spaced ratchet teeth 62 on the arm 5U.
A coil spring 64, anchored at one end to the engine I8 and at its remaining end to the pawl 60, normally urges the pawl 60 into locking engagement between a selected pair of the teeth 62.
A sleeve 63 is detachably mounted on the dash panel or board I6 and slidably receives a cylinder 68 to which there is secured one end of an operating rod The free end of the rod 'I0 is suitably secured to the pawl 60.
A lug 72 projects laterally from the cylinder 68 and is received in a slot 14 provided in the sleeve 66 when the pawl 60 is engaged between a selected pair of teeth 62.
In order to rotate and lock the distributor in a selected rotated position, the cylinder 68 is rst pulled outwardly so that the lug VI2 disengages the slot 'i4 and the pawl B0 disengages the teeth E2. The cylinder 68 is then rotated soA that the lug 'I2 bears against one end of the cylinder to retain the pawl 68 in an unlocked position.
The hand grip 34 is pulled toward the lever 32 to disengage the pawl 36 from the ratchet teeth 3B and move the ring 44a against the eyeV 24. Next, the lever 32 and hand grip 34 are moved, together or individually to force the eye 24 and hence the distributor either clockwise or counterclockwise a predetermined amount.
The lug 'I2 is then inserted in the slot 14 and the pawl 5I) is re-engaged between a pair of the teeth 62 to lock the distributorin its adjusted position.
Indicatingr mechanism The aforementioned distributor rotating means and distributor locking mechanism cooperates with an indicating means whereby the adjustment and necessary adjustment of the distributor is visible to the vehicle operator or serviceman. This indicating means includes a lamp housing 16 that is detachably secured behind the dashboard I6 by suitablev fasteners 18.
A resilient pad or rubber wall 86 is clamped between the dashboard I6 and the housing 'I6 and includes a plurality of openings 82 that yieldingly receive lamp bulbs 84.
Sockets 86 are provided in the housing 16 for receiving the bases of the lamp bulbs 84 and a retainer plate 88 is removably secured to the housing 76 to retain the lamp bulbs positioned within the housing 16. p
The dashboard l5 is provided with apertures 9U that register with the openings 82 provided in the wall 80 so that light rays emitted from the lam-pbulbs will pass outwardly through the The forward wall 92 of the ywheel housing 94 is provided with the usual opening 96 for observing the rotation of the flywheel 98 and mounted loosely within the opening 96 is a conductor |06 that is adjustably supported by a bracket |2 mounted onthe wall 82. The reducedtip end |24 of the conductor |00 is positioned relative to a contact |65 on the flywheel 98 so that as the flywheel is rotated the contact |06 will come into a circuit closing position with the tip end |84.
The conductor |06 is connected to one of the lamp bulbs in the housing 16, for example lamp 'switch halves |26 and |26'.

The numeral |23 represents an insulated switch housing that isdetachably mounted behind the dashboard l5 and which supports a plurality of flxedswitch members |22, there being one switch member for each of the conductors IIB, ||2 and Slidably received'in communicating openings |23 in the dashboard |6 and the switch housing |20, is a finger grip |24 that is detachably secured to an insulating block |26. The block |26 is provided with a plurality of bores |28 in which there are mounted sleeves |3|l that slidably receive the fixed switch members |22. Contacts or switch member |32 complemental to the members |22, are Xed in the sleeves |30 yand are moved into circuit closing position with the members |22 as the block |26 is forced against the housing |20 by moving the hand grip |24 outwardly ofthe dashboard I6. i It will thus be seen that each of the conductors IIG, VI I2 and IIE is provided with a switch controlling the current to the lamp bulbs, and by forcing the iinger grip inwardly of the dash panel I6, the switches will be moved to a circuit open position and the lamp bulbs will not be energized.

An ignition timing device for vehicle engines having a rotatable distributor and a spark adjuster movable with the distributor, said timing device comprising, a push rod, a guide carried :by said distributor slidably receiving the rod, a lever for moving the rod, a further lever pivoted at its central portion of the rod, a ring slidable on said rod, a stop on said rod, a link securing one end of said further lever to said ring, means for pivoting said further lever to force said ring against said guide, means for locking the guide clamped between said ring and said stop, an arm fixed to said spark adjuster, means slidably supporting said arm, means connected to said arm for rotating said spark adjuster, and means engaging said arm for locking the spark adjuster in a selected rotated position.
3. An ignition timing device for1 vehicle engines having a rotatable distributor and a spark adjuster movable with the distributor, said tim- 6 ing device comprising, a push rod, a guide carried by said distributor slidably receiving the rod, a lever for moving the rod, a further lever pivoted at its central portion to the rod, a ring slidable on said rod, a stop on said rod, a link securing one end of said further lever to said ring, means for pivoting said further lever to force said ring against said guide, means for locking the guide clamped between said ring and said stop, an arm fixed to said spark adjuster, means slidably supporting said arm, means connected to said arm for rotating said spark adjuster, said arm having a plurality of spaced teeth, a paWl for locking engagement with the teeth, an operating rod for said pawl, and means normally urging said pawl into locking engagement with said teeth.
