'Woon OILING MACHINE.
110,261,452. Patented July 18, 1882."
v WITNESSES UNITED VSTATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD M. HEVVSON, OF STILLWATER, NEW YORK.
woot-OILING MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 261,452, dated July 18, 1882.
Application tiled April 17, 1882. (N o model.)
To all whom tt may concern:
Be it known that LEDWARD M. HEWsoN. of Stillwater, in the county of Saratoga and State of NewYork, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wool-Oiling Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specication, and in which- Figure 1 is a plan View of my improved oiler for cotton or wool stock, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the gures.
This invention relates to an improvement in oiling devices or atomizers for wool stock, its` 'object being to spray the oil upon the wool as it is being fed to the lapper or carding-machine; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of parts of the oiling apparatus or device, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
-In carrying out my invention I employ a standard, A, which is designed to be attached to the frame of the feed-apron of a lapper or carding-machine, and has a right-angled arm,
B, pivoted thereto at O, and extending about halt-way across the apron. At the free end of the arm B is an upright sleeve, D, through and upon which is passed and hung a shaft, a, having a beveled pinion, E,'atits upper end and the disk or wheel F at its lower end.
G is a T-shaped upright, capable of vertical adjustment by means of' a slot, b, and setscrew b upon the standard-arm B, and supporting a horizontal shaft, c, having the pinion H at one end, engaging with the pinion E of the shaft a, and the band-pulley I at the other end, around Which'passes acrossed belt or band, K, passed around a second pulley, L, upon a driving-shaft.
M is a tank for holding the oil, supported upon the standard-arm B. The tank has a faucet, m, to which is connected a pipe, N, delivering the oil upon the disk or wheel F when the faucet is open. Y
The operation is as follows: Motion being 5o imparted through belt, pulleys, and shaft to the shalt c, the pinions E H thus set in motion will operate the disk or wheel F, causing it to rapidly revolve. In the meantime, the
`oil being fed through the pipe N from the tank M upon the disk or wheel F, the centrifugal action of the latter will spray or sprinkle the oil upon the wool being fed to the lapper or carding-machine, the beneficial effect of which upon wool stock is well known. The spray- 6o ing operation can be regulated by varying the speed ofthe disk or wheel F or by turning the cock of the faucet mj to more'or less open or close it.
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patentofthe United Statesl. The combination, with the disk or wheel F and mechanism for imparting to it a revolving motion, ot' the tank M, having a pipe, N, adapted to discharge its contents upon the 7o disk or wheel, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. t
2. The combination, with the shaft a, hav-b ing the disk or wheel F at one end andthe pinion E at the other end, the shaft c, having the pinion H and the pulley I, and the driving mechanism, of the tank M, having a faucet, m, and pipe N, leading to the disk F, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that 1 claim the foregoing as 8o my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD M. HEWSON.
