Class 20(iii) A tilting door 3 adapted to close an opening 1 in a wall 2 is suspended by a hinged arm 5 pivoted to the wall at a point 6 on a level with the centre of gravity Z of the door and to the door midway between the centre of gravity and the lower edge 4 which is guided by means of a roller in the plane of the door. A weight 10 is rigidly secured to an extension of the door panels to bring the centre of gravity to the point shown : the door is of lightweight construction, e.g. aluminium sheeting. The lower guiding point 4 may be above the bottom edge which in this case projects outside the opening as the door rises.

The invention relates to a ti1ting door, espe cially to doors with a relatively large surface.
Constructions are known, with which the lower sde of the door aan he inoved upwards and then be guided along the plane being closed by the door in vertical position.
In order to be able to move suoh like doors easily up and down, up to now counterweights have been used, .whichare connected to cab1es or the 1ike.
The invention has for its object to provide a construction, which makes the use of cables wth counterweights superfluous. This has the advantage, that the possibility of breaking of a cab1e has been eliminated, thatno space for the cables and the counterweights needs to be provided and that generally there are not the 0bjections conneeted With the use of sad cables with counterweights.
According to the invention the door is suspended on a structure by means of hinges on one or more supporting arms, pivoted to one=point stuated between the lower edge of the door and the centre of gravity of the door, with which the length of the hinged arm is equal to half the distance from the lower supporting edge of the door, which is guided in the plane of the door opening, to the centre of gravity of the door.
In the aecompanying drawing the invention is illustrated.
The opening I in the wa11 2 of a structure can be closed by means of the tilting closing member 3. In order to open the door-opening the lower part 4 of the door or ciosing member 3 is moved upwards and as usual1y the door can be guided with a roller a1ong a guide. The door is suspended on a hinged arm 5, which is attaehed to the wall at 6 and to the door at 7. The point I is situated between the lower edge 4 and the centre of gravity 2 of the door. It is clear that in this way some soceles trangles wth sides a are formed. The centre of gravity 2 of the door moves when opening and closing the door a1ong a horizontal line 6-2. The moment of the weight of the proper door pl with respect to the point 2 is equal to the moment of the weight 1102 with respect to point z. 'I'hus pl b is p2 c whereas pl+p2 is equa1 to p3. The weight 11! can be considered as the weight of the door without the special making heavier to be disoussed hereafter, namely the weight of the door irom the lower part to the centre of gravty 2. 122 is the weight of that part of the construction, located at the other side of the centre of gravity z.
In the embodiment illustrated in the diawing is supposed, that the lowerpart of the door is guided along the plane of the door when it is moved upwards. However point 4 can also be sitated at some height above the lower limitati on line of the door. This means that when moving the door upwards the lower part of same will project over some distance outside the plane of the door-opening. Moreover in this case the distance of the guiding point 4 to point must also be equal to the distance of point 1 to 2 (a).
In order to be able to use the construction efiiciently care is taken that thepart of the door closing the opening I in the wa1l, is light, e. g. fiom aluminium plate. In a closed position of the door the point 8 of the door will be situated opposite or near the upper side 9 of the opening. In order to provide that the centre of gravity z comes at the indicated place, the panels of the door are preferably extended beyond point z, Whereas a weight is arraneed between these panels, which is rigidly conneoted with the door. The weight of the panels beyond the point u together with the extra weight |0 forms p2, whereas pl is formed by the door part between the points 4 and 8 and the panels extending from 8 to 2.
It is advantageous to make the part 4-43 of the door as 1ight as possible. Therefore it is advsabie to provide projecting door panels With the weght l arranged between them as a rigid profile frame. The rigidity against deformation is then especially obtaned by the great torsional rigdity of the weight.
What I claim is:
1. A closure means for an opening in a substantially vertical structure, comprsing, in combination, a tiltable closing member movable between a substantially vertioal closng position for closing said opening, and an opening position, said closing member having an upper edge and a lower edge, said lower edge being mounted on said structure slidable in a substantially vertical plane; at least one supporting arm adapted to be pivotally secured at one end thereof to said strueture in said vertioal plane, and pivotally secured at the other end thereof to said elosing member at a pivoting point spaced trom said lower edge for a distance equal to the length of said supporting arm; and weight means secured to said closing member in the region of said upper edge and so arranged and dimensioned that the combineci center of gravity of the entire closure means is located in the plane of said c1osing member spaced from said lower edge of the same a distance equal to twiee the length of said supporting arm, so that said eenter of gravity moves along a horzontal line while saicl closing member moves between said closingand opening positions.
2. A closure means for an opening in a substantially vertical structure, comprising, in combination, a tiltable closing member movable between a substantially vertical closing position for closing said opening, and an opening position, said closins, member having an upper edge and a lower edge; roller means secured to said closing member in the region of said lower edge and being movable on said structure in a substantially vertical plane; at least one supporting arm adapted to be pivotally secured atone end thereof te said structure in said vertical plane, and pivotally secured at the other end thereof to said closing member at a pvoting point spaced from said lower edge for a distance equal to the Iength of said. supporting arm; and weight means secured to said closing member above said upper edge, and so arranged and dimensoned-that the combined center of gravity. of the entire closure means is located in the plane of said closing memberspaced. from saicl roller means a distance equal te twce the length of said supporting arm, so that said center of gravity. moves alorig a horizontal line while saidv closing member moves between said closng and opening positions.
3. A closure means for closing and openingin a vertical structure, comprising, in combination, door means, including a door adapted te close said opening by sliding with the 10W8I' edge thereof in a vertical plane along saidstructure from a horizontal opening positon to a vertical closing position, a weight means, and means/securing said weight means to said door spaced from the top edge at such distance that the combined center of gravity of saicl door means is located. in the upper portion of the sarne; and supportng means adapted to be pi voted at one end. thereof to said structure in said vertical plane, said supporting means having substanti ally the length ofhalf the distanee between said lower edge of said door and said center of gravity, and being pivoted at the other end thereof to said door at a point located at equal distances from said lower edge of said door and said center of gravity, so that sad center of gravity moves along a horizontal line during closing ancl opening of said door.
4. A closure means for closing and opening in a vertical structure, comprising, in combination, door means, including a door adapted. te close said opening by moving from a horizontal opening postion to a vertical closing position, roller means rotatably secured to said. door in the region.of said bottom eolge and. moving in a vertical plane alongsaid structure during closing and. opening of said. door, a weight means, anc1 side; panels secured te said door and projecting over the top edge of said door and securng said weight means to said door spaced from the top edge of the same, said weight means being so dimensioned as to locate the center o gravty of sad door means above said top edge of said door; and a pair of supporting arms havingone pair of ends adapted te be pivoted to said structure in said vertical plane, said supporting arrns having substantially the length of half the distance between said roller means and said center of gravity, and being pivoted at the other pair of ende ther'eof te said door at.points locatec at equal distances from said roller means and said center of gravity so that said center of gravity moves along a horizontal line cluring closing and opening of said door.
