UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM G. ALLEN, OF WEST UNION, OHIO.
D RAG-SAW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 261,292, dated July 18, 1882.
Application filed April 20, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. ALLEN, of WestUnion, in the county of Adams and State ofOhio, have invented a new and Improved Wood-Sawing Machine, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description;
This invention is a contrivance of the saw for sawing upon the ordinary hand-saw buck, and has for its object, in common with others, to enable the operator to work the saw with both hands, to obtain a better application of the power than with the ordinary hand woodsaw, andto maintain the body in more comfortable positions.
The nature of my invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, which represents myim proved sawing-machine in perspective View.
The saw-buck is of substantially the ordinary form, except the legs A and B stand nearly upright. It is also a little higher than common bucks, and the leg A extends upward above the rest and has a long slot, 0, in which the saw D,frameE, and lever Fwork; and said leg Aalso has a shorter slot, G, transversely to slot 0, in which the pivotH, on which the saw works, shifts up and down. If desired, weights I may be suspended on pivot H to feed the saw faster. The saw D is an arc of a circle of which pivot H is the center. The pivot H is the fulcrum of the lever F, by which the power is applied. The weight of.the saw and the friction of the pivot H in the slot G resist the upward tcndencyofthefulcruin of thelever and hold the saw to the work. J represents the cross-legs of the buck.
It will readily be understood that with one hand upon the lever the operator may accomplish more work with this machine than with both hands in the old way, at the same time being enabled to stand erect, or very nearly 5 rightangles with slot 0, of the curved'saw D, 5
with its frame E F, hung in slot (3 of the standard A, and provided with a pivot, H, weighted and adapted to slide in the slot G of the post or standard A, substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
