UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN B. .BELGHER, OF CHARLOTTE, MICHIGAN.
BOOT-STRAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 261,125, dated July 18, 1882.
Application filed June 3, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN B. BELOHER, of Charlotte, in the county of Eaton and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Boot-Strap; and the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure 1, a perspective view of a bootleg provided with my improved straps; Figs. 2, 3, and 4, the two parts and their arrangement preparatory to applying to the boot-leg.
This invention relates to an improvement in boot-straps, with special reference to indiarubber boots, the object being to make a double metal strap having great durability, and which shall be neat in appearance and very simple. 7
It consists of a metallic strap or double loop provided with a holder or attaching-strap, constructed and arranged as herein described.
The metal portion A is made with its top part forming a donbleloop, of convenient size for the insertion of two fingers, while its lower portion may be thinner and sufficiently light, as represented in Fig. 2.
The attaching-strap B is a piece of strong cloth covered with a coating of rubber or combination of rubber and fabric of required dimensions, which is then slit at its center to about twothirds its length, as shown in Fig. 3. The two long ends are then passed through and placed around the lower part of double loop A, as in Fig. 4. The strap thus completed is attached to the boot by being placed between the boot and itslining, or in the usual manner of attaching straps to rubber boots, with the round top portion of double loop A only extending above the top of the boot.
It will be understood that the material of which the attaching-strap B is composed is of such a nature or prepared so that it will adhere to the parts of the boot-leg, and so that the usual vulcanizing processv will cause the attachment to become permanent. This construction makes the strap simple and ofa more durable character than a double strap made of rubber or fabric.
I claim The double metallic loop A and attachingstrap B, prepared and arranged'as described, and adapted to be applied to a rubber-boot leg, in the manner herein set forth.
JOHN B. BELOHER.
