In the drawings, the buckle embodying the invention is designated by general reference character I0, the flexible garment strap to which the buckle is to be secured being indicated (Fig. by reference character I`I. The garment strap is formed, as shown in Fig. 4, by utilizing thicknesses of exible material 3|, 3l' with marginal hems generally noted by reference characters 30, 30', stitched together, as indicated at 32, 32. The buckle is utilized to connect the strap II with a button on the garment (not shown).
The buckle comprises a rectangular frameuI'2 having parallel top `,and bottom'bar portionsj I3, I4,- and connecting sidebars I5,;I5, deningan internal aperture I8. A plate -20 is provided with bearings 2|, ZI- engaging the'top'bar portion I3 of the frame to pivotally connectthe plate toV the frame and enable the loweredge 25v of the plate to be moved relative to the bottom bar portion I4 for a purpose presently explained. The plate is provided with side flange portions 22,- 22' to telescopically overlie the outer edges of the side bars I5, I6 and registerv the plate therewith. These sidenflanges further serve as stop members engaging the side bars I5, I6 of the frame to prefl clude excessive pivotal movement of the plate 20 on the frame. The plate is provided with an elongated slot 23 whichY is substantially -coextensive with the widthof the internal aperture defined by the frame. The medial portions 3|, 3| of the strap are gripped between flange 21 and bottom bar I4 of the frame tightly, as the primary gripping action of the device. Additionally, those portions oi the strap immediately underlying the lugs 24, 24 will be held between said lugs and bottom bar I4 at a point opposite that at which the flange overlies the bar (Fig. 6) with the serrated edges 24, 24 of the lugs engaging the strap material. The frame is provided with` a media'llyV extended loop l1 or the like to receive a garment button for attachment of the strap thereto. It will be appreciated from the foregoing that the device may be readily and accurately manufactured at lowcost and that its features of construction are such as to register the parts at all times, precludeV accidental disengagement and enable the'utilization of substantially the full width of the frame fer' the reception of the material of the strap. e i
Having thus described my invention, what claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: e
1. A buckle for attachment to a exible garment Strap havingfmarginal edges of material stitched together in superposed relation in cross-section, said marginal edges defining hems of substantial cross-sectional thickness, said buckle being adapted to connect the strap with a button l'and -comprising a rectangular frame having parallel top and bottom bar portions and connecting side bars defining an internal aperture, there being an upwardly extending buttonengaging loop midway the length of the top bar, a plate, bearings on the plate engaging opposite lendiportions ofv the top bar portion to pivotally connect the plate to the frame, side flanges on the plate to telescopically7 overlie the side bars, register the plate therewith, and to preclude excessive.pivotalmovement of the plate, an elongated slot in said plate coextensive with the width of the internal aperture defined by the frame, lugs extended from the lower edge of the plate across the front surface of the bottom bar and defining therewith corner apertures disposed substantially inwardly of the ends of the slot to receive the thick marginal hems of the strap, saidv strap being passed forwardly through the slot in the plate and looped around the lower edge of the buckle plate and through the frame aperture and downwardly back of the bot-V tom bar in use, and a flange extending below the lower edge of the plate intermediate the lugs,

In a 'buckle for attachment to a flexible garment strap as set forth in claim 1, the lugs having serrated edges to engage the strap material and the plate having flanges extending rearwardly along margins of the slot therein.
