This invention relates to a bed cover support for the purpose of raising the bed covers at the foot of the bed to a height so that they will not rest on the feet of the occupant.

An object of my invention is to provide a novel bed cover support which can be easily mounted at the foot of the bed, and which will adjustably support the covers at any height desired above the mattress.

Another object of my invention is to provide a novel bed cover support of the character stated, in which the cover supporting post may be easily and quickly adjusted vertically to the desired height.

Still another object of my invention is to provide a novel bed cover support of the character stated, which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and efiective in use.

Other objects, advantages and features of invention may appear from the accompanying drawing, the subjoined detailed description and the appended claims;

Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral I indicates a bed of the usual and well known type, and the numeral 2 indicates the mattress which is positioned on the bed.

My bed cover support consists of two supporting members 3-4, positioned one on each side of the bed, and adjacent the foot thereof. Each supporting member consists of a substantially rectangular sleeve 5 and a plate 6 integrally formed with the sleeve or fixedly attached thereto. This plate extends under the mattress 2 substantially as shown in Figure 1, and is thus held in proper position by the weight of the mattress.

The sleeve 5 is formed with a vertical opening I which extends from top to bottom of this sleeve. A post 8 fits in the Opening I and the post is movable vertically in this opening and within the sleeve 5.

An arm 9 is pivotally attached to the upper end of the post 8 and this arm supports the covers III at the height required. The horizontal arm 9 is of appreciable length so that the covers are well supported and are further held in raised position without tearing or otherwise injuring the covers.

To permit the post 8 to be moved vertically in the sleeve 5, I provide a latch rod I I, which is also pivotally secured at its upper end to the arm 9.

end, and a cord I4 is secured at one end to the finger l3, and the other end of the cord is secured to the latch rod I I. The lower endof the the post 8 is curved, as shown at l5, to permit easy sliding movement of the cord I4, and is also provided with a groove I5 to receive the cord.

It will be evident that by moving the latch rod I I upwardly or downwardly, the spring finger I3 can be moved laterally to engage or disengage any of the notches I6 on the inside of the sleeve 5. The notches I6 are variously spaced in the sleeve 5 and, consequently, the post 8 can be moved vertically by tilting the arm 9 to raise the latch rod II, which in turn retracts the finger I3. By releasing the arm 9, the spring finger I3 will move outwardly to engage one of the notches I6.

Having described my invention, I claim:

1. A bed cover support comprising a sleeve, a horizontal plate projecting from the sleeve, said plate being adapted to fit under the mattress of the bed, said sleeve having a hole extending vertically therethrough, a, post slidably mounted in said hole of the sleeve, latch means engageable with the sleeve to hold said post in adjusted po sition, an arm pivotally mounted on the upper end of said post, a latch rod pivotally secured to the arm, and means extending from said latch rod to said latch means to retract said latch means on movement of said arm.

2. A bed cover support comprising a sleeve, a horizontal plate projecting from the sleeve, said plate being adapted to fit under the mattress of the bed, said sleeve having a hole extending vertically therethrough, a post slidably mounted in said hole of the sleeve, said sleeve having spaced notches arranged Within said hole, a spring finger on the post engageable with the notches to adjustably hold the post in the sleeve, and means to retract said spring finger, said means including a latch rod adjacent said post, an arm pivotally attached to the upper end of the post and to said latch rod, and a cord attached to said latch rod and to the spring finger, whereby vertical movement of the latch rod will retract the spring fiinger.
