Thepresent inventionlrelates to the general the centrally'open' head or top 3 of the can is class of liqui d separation, and more specifically crimped at *4 in usua'lmanner, and fashioned to an improved cover for paint cans that is dewith' an annular depressed groove 5. I signed for substitution in place of the original After removal of the original lid of the can, cover or lid of the paint can, and while the novel 5 which is pressed into the grooved top or head of cover may be employed for other purposes and the can and there held by friction, the filtering uses, it is especially useful in emptying an origiand pouring cover of my invention is substituted nal can of paint, as well as for straining the for the displaced lid, as indicated in Fig. 1, by contents of the can. By the utilization of my pressing the cover into position where it is held invention the painter, or other craftsman in by friction. handling various liquids, may pour paint di- The cover includes a fiat circular plate of metal rectly from an original can or container in the or other suitable material indicated by the nuprocess of securing a proper and desired mixture melal 6 a d t' p v W a group Seri s before applying the paint to a surface; and when of vent holes 1 near one edge to facilitate pournecessary, the liquid paint may be strained or ing the qu pa fr m the can I. filtered for the elimination of solids. At s inner de e cov p ate s provided The invention is embodied in a pouring cover with an annular rib or bead 8 which is stamped that may or may not be equipped with a filtering r D d to form a D d flange forming or straining medium and the cover may with the Outer p p y of the Circular p a a d facility be tt h d by pressure d h ld by fricthis bead or rib of resilient material is designed tion in a standard or conventional paint can after to be p d h a fr ctional fit into the an removal of the original lid or cover; and the cover hula! gIOOVe 5 0f the op Wall of the can.

In order that the general arrangement and In the modified form of the invention shown utility of parts may readily be understood I have in Fig. 4, the strainer or filter is omitted, and shown in Fig. 1 a standard or conventional type the cover or closure is adapted especially for of paint can I having a closed bottom 2; and substitute use with an original paint can, by
first removing the original closure or lid and then applying the closure of the drawing to facilitate emptying the contents from the can, as well as for use in mixing the contents of two or more cans. As the paint flows from the mouth 9 the flanges 12, I2 guide the flowing paint into the spout l 1 without spilling or waste.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination with a paint can having an open center end wall and a depressed annular groove therein, of a cover having an annular head for frictional engagement in said groove, said cover adapted to fully close the open center end wall of the can and having vent openings and a screened mouth, and an exterior spout surrounding a portion of the screened mouth.
2. The combination with a container having an open-center head and a depressed annular groove therein,.of a cover adapted .-to entirely close the open center head and having a complementary bead seated in the groove, said cover having opposed diametrically arranged vent and mouth openings, and a radially extending spout surrounding a portion of the mouth and projecting from an edge of the cover.
