(Cl. 2118) This invention relates to a display device for fur scarves, fur pieces and the like, and has as its primary object the provision of a device for conveniently displaying fur pieces and which prevents unauthorized tampering and removal of makes possible theremoval of valuable fur pieces by unauthorized persons.

The device of the present invention is constructed and arranged in such a manner as to allow easy inspection of a number of fur pieces by buyers and prospective customers while preventing disarrangement and removal of the fur pieces except by a responsible and authorized person.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a display device of the character indicated which is adapted for securely retaining the fur :pieceswithout working any damage or harmful effect on the valuable and relatively delicate skin and. hairs.

,-.; A further object of the invention is the provision of a display device of simple design and divisible, rugged construction which may be fabricated inexpensively and which allows fur pieces to be arranged thereupon and removed therefrom when required in a rapid and expeditious manner.

An additionalobject of the invention is th provision of a display device which, while preventing unauthorized removal of fur pieces therefrom allows the handling and thorough inspection of theufur pieces as a result of the novel arrangement of the device.

The foregoing objects as well as additional objects and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent in the course-of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings which illustrate preferred embodiments of the invention, and wherein:

Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of a display device embodying the features of the invention;

Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the upper member of the device illustrating the locking means preventing unauthorized removal of the fur pieces;

Referring first to Figs. 1 to 6, the display device is preferably adjustable as to heightand includes a base or hollow standard l0 slidably retaining the central rod support II which may be raised and lowered as desired and which is held in any adjusted position as by means of a screw clamp I 2, adapting the device for fioor display.

Rod ll carries at its upper end a fixed member or bar l3 preferably having downwardly turned ends M. A movable member I5 is pivotally mounted at both ends to fixed member l3, as at I 6,-and is preferably U-shaped to define an intermediate portion [5a substantially parallel to fixed member l3. Member l3 carries a plurality of spaced rigid hook-like elements I! which cooperate with movable member {5 to retain a plurality of fur scarves or the like as will be more fully described hereinbelow. The top ends of elements [1 are preferably received within grooves 18 in movable member [5 in the locked position of the device illustrated in Fig. 1 to eliminate any space between said elements and the underside of said movable member such as might allow a fur piece to be pulled or squeezed therethrough.

Locking means is provided for securing the movable member l5 in the locked position of Fig. 1. For this purpose, members l3 and 15 are provided with registering apertures IQ for the reception of a locking member or hasp 20. Said locking member 28 is provided with aligned apertures 20a for the reception therethrough of the bow 21 of a padlock 22 or other suitable locking means.

In actual use the fur scarves or other fur pieces are arranged on the device by first rotating movable member [5 to the open position illustrated in Figs. 2 and 4 whereupon the scarves are placed upon lower or fixed member [3 with each element I! projecting through the unjoined intermediate portion of each pair of skins comprising a fur piece. When a suitable member of fur pieces have been so arranged, movable member i5 is rotated to closed upright position whereupon the top ends of elements I! are received within the grooves I8 of said member and the apertures l9 of the fixed and movable members I3 and I5 are brought into registration. Locking member or hasp 20 is then inserted through apertures l9 and the padlock 22 or other suitable locking means placed in position to prevent relative displacement and rotation between said fixed and movable members.

It will be noted that the device in its locked position will not interfere with a thorough inspection and handling of each fur piece displayed thereupon but will prevent removal of the furpieces except by a, responsible and authorized person.

A retaining shelf or'tray 23 is preferably carried on a frame 24 secured to the top of base If]. Said tray or shelfprevents the free end of the scarves from trailing on the floor and protects them against soiling and damage. Frame 24 is preferably mounted on a slidable collar 25 adjustable along base as by means of screw clamp 28. 7

Figs. 7 to 9 illustrate a modified form of display device suitable for counter use. Like elements with respect to the embodiments of Figs-1 to 6 are assigned like reference-numerals.- The frame portion of the device comprises a pair of vertical supports or legs 30 interconnected by a transverse support 31'. Legs 30 carry at their upper end the fixed member 13 having an upturned end l3a and a downturned end [4. A'movable member I is pivoted at 32 to fixed member-l3 and cooperates with the hook-like elements I! secured to said fixed member in the manner initially described for the embodiment of Figs. 1 too to retain fur scarves or other-fur pieces. The open position of the device is illustrated partially in dot-and-dash outline in Fig. '7. The operation of the device is similar to the initial embodiment and need not be repeated.

Since certain modifications may be made in the device of the present invention without departing from the scope thereof it is intended that all matter contained in the foregoing description 4 and shown in the accompanying drawings be interpreted merely as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

What is claimed is: A display device for fur scarves and the like, comprising a fixed member having a transverse bar and depending end leg portions, transversely spaced hook elements secured to said fixed bar, each of said hook elements havingan upstanding shank portion and a rearwardly extending curved portion whose upper face is convex, each of said hook elements being adapted to receive a fur scarf with said shank portion projecting within the unjoined portion of adjacent skins of said fur scarf, a, movable member having a transverse bar and depending end leg portions, said movable transverse bar being substantially parallel to said fixedtransverse bar, said movable member leg portions respectively being adjacent to and pivotally connected to said respective fixed member leg portions along a'common turning axis which is parallel to said fixed transverse bar, saidmovable member being thereby turnable between an opening position and a closing position, said movable transverse bar having grooves in the bottom thereof which are respectively alinedwith said respective hook element curved portions and which respectively interfit frictionally therewith when said movable member is insaidclosing position, at least one of said pairs of adjacent-leg portions having respective apertures therein which register for the reception of a'locking member when said movable member is in said closing position.
