Description

April 15, 1952 c, E. MANN MASONS LINE BLOCK Filed 001;. 51, 1949 Cecil 5. Mann Patented Apr. 15, 1952 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE MASONS LINE BLOCK Cecil E. Mann, Pontiac, Mich.
Application October 31, 1949, Serial No. 124,597
2 Claims. 1
This invention relates to novel and useful improvements in masons equipment.
An object of this invention is to support a line which may be placed at the corners of an outside wall or on the top surface of the wall whereby the line may serve the function common to masonry, that is to provide a straight wall.
Another object of this invention is to perform this function by an improved means which is simplified in structure as well as inexpensive.
Ancillary objects and features of novelty will become apparent to those skilled in the art, following the description of the preferred form of the invention, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a wall, showing the invention applied;
Figure 2 is a perspective View of the preferred form of the device;
Figure 3 is a perspective view similar to that shown in Figure 1 but viewing the same from a diflerent position, and;
Figure 4 is a fragmentary perspective view of a portion of a wall, showing a second use of the present device; and
Figure 5 is a fragmentary perspective view of an alternate element employed in the invention.
A wall having corners l and I2 respectively is shown as the recipient of the invention. This wall is partially completed and in approximately the position or condition of construction where the device of the nature to be described may be put to use.
The masons line block disclosed herewith is formed of sheet metal including two arms l4 and I6 respectively having their marginal edges folded at [8 for strengthening purposes.
Legs 20 and 22 respectively are fixed to the arms I4 and l 6 at one end thereof and extend at right angles with respect to the plane thereof. These legs and arms are adapted to be located and positioned at the corner of a wall as shown in Figure 1. As an alternative, when cinder blocks or concrete blocks are utilized or any other type of block having central openings, the arms 14 and 16 are disposed in holes as shown in Figure 4.
Adjacent the junction of the arms and the legs of the device a pair of extensions 26 and 28 respectively are provided in overlapping relation with each other. A number of screws 30 or other suitable fastening means are passed through both plates in order to retain the device assembled. One of the screws is passed through an opening in the flat rod 34 or an opening in the crosssectionally curved rod 35 (Figure and has a wing nut 32 thereon in order that the rod 34 or 2 35 may be maintained assembled with the device. Whichever rod is used has the line 36 wrapped therearound.
It is apparent from inspection of Figure 4 that the rod 34 carries the line and it simply extends to another identical rod which is not shown in the drawings. 1 When the device is utilized as shown in Figure l, the cord or line 36 is wrapped around the rod 34 and passes through the V notch formed between the legs 20 and 22.
It is apparent that some variations may be made from the structure described above without departing from the spirit of the invention. Accordingly, limitation is sought only in accordance with the scope of the following claims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A device for use in conjunction with building constructions to assist in producing a level wall, said device comprising a pair of substantially parallel arms having plates fixed thereto which are arranged in overlying position with each other, means fastening said plates together, legs fixed to said arms at one pair of ends of said arms and being perpendicular to said arms, said arms being arranged to form a notch between said arms, a rod carried by said arms at the junction of said arms and said legs, said rod having end portions which protrude beyond the side edges of said arms and legs, and the end portions of said rod having a cord wrapped therearound and passed through the notch between said legs.
2. The combination of claim 1 and the portions of said rod which protrude beyond the side edges of said arms and legs constituting a holder for the device.
CECIL E. MANN.
