Our invention relates to wallets, specifically of the type known in the art as pocket secretaries.

An important object of our invention is to provide an article of the aforementioned character which may be used as a combination pocket secretary and wallet for retaining therein currency, papers, cards, etc.

A further object of our invention is to provide an article of the aforementioned character which may also be used as a hip pocket wallet.

A still further object of our invention is to provide an article of the aforementioned character which is equipped with reinforcement means, so

as to enable one to set up the article in flat formation, subsequently to its continual usage as a hip pocket wallet, so-that the same may be carried conveniently in the breast pocket of a garment to serve the purpose of a pocket secretary.

A further object of our invention is to provide an article of the aforementioned character which is provided with a reinforcement pocket along its traverse median section, and a storage pocket adjacent to said reinforcement pocket, the said reinforcement pocket being adapted to retain rigid reinforcement mean for reinforcing the fold portion of the wallet when the same is used as a pocket secretary, or for storing the reinforcement means in the storage pocket when the article is being utilized as a hip pocket type of wallet.

A further object of our invention is to provide an article'of the aforementioned character which is practical in its form and construction, and which is of such simple elemental arrangement of parts as to warrant economical manufacture thereof in quantity production.

Other objects and advantages inherent in our invention will become apparent from an examination of the accompanying drawings bearing further elucidation in the ensuing description, wherein like symbols are used to designate like parts, and in which:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view, showing the article comprising our invention set up in the form of a pocket secretary, with its main sections partly spread apart so as to more clearly indicate the structure thereof.

Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, showing the back section of the wallet in relation to the view shown in Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a view showing the front section in elevation, and is rotated approximately 90 degrees as related to Fig. 1.

Fig. 4 is a fragmentary elevational view of the rear section of the wallet, showing the currency compartment.

Referring to the various views, our invention is generally designated 10 and consists of two oblong sections II and I2, folded at I3 to form a hinge-like arrangement so that the pocket 34 opens at one longitudinal edge, the bottom edges l4 being stitched together, or otherwise secured, in order to form a bottom for the said secretarial pocket 34.

The front section I 2 has a rear wall 28 to which are attached the panel l5, and super-imposed thereover the panel l1, forming pockets with accessibility through the edges l6 and I8 respectively.

The rear section II has an outside wall 30 in which a slitted portion 3| is cut longitudinally thereof in order to provide access for pockets 36 and 31.- The panels 32 and 33 are intermediate to the wall 30 and the inner wall '29 thereof, and it will be noted-that the panel 32 has-stitched thereto a strap 38, which extends throughout the entire length of the upper edge of the panel 32 and is positioned with its longitudinal axis in 0- incidental relationship with that of the slitted portion 3|, so as to form the secret pocket 31 and the outer pocket 36.

The rear section, on its wall 29, at I9 is provided wtih cut portions 25 and 26, forming access to pockets 20 and 20, the pockets being defined by stitching 2|, 22, 23 and the lowermost stitching 24.

When the wallet is used as a pocket secretary, as in the forms indicated at Figs. 1 to 4, then the reinforcement element 21, which is made of sheet material and is flexible, is inserted into the pocket 20. The rigid sheet reinforcement element 2! is inserted into the pocket 20 when the wallet is used as a pocket secretary in accordance with the views illustrated in Figs. 1 to 4.

When the wallet is to be used as a hip-type wallet, as indicated in views 5 to 8, then the reinforcement element 21 is stored in the storage pocket 20, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1 and in full lines in Fig. 5.

The wall, or the section 12 of the wallet at its under portion, as shown in Fig. 2, has a panel 39 secured thereto, providing a free edge 48, making available access to a card pocket or pocket for storing similar material.

The entire wallet structure is so disposed that within the pocket 34, letters and other papers may be carried, when the article functions as a pocket secretary. Cards and other notes may be carried in the pockets available or accessible through the free edges 16 and 18. The reinforcement element 21 is preferably retained in the pocket 20 so as to provide a flat formed pocket secretary which will not become deformed when carried in the breast pocket of a coat or garment, whereas the reinforcement 27 is carried in the pocket 20 when the wallet is utilized as a hip pocket wallet and is folded as shown in Figs. to 8.

After considerable use of the wallet, when carrying the same in the hip pocket, a marked weakness may be produced at the transverse median line 35, and if it is later desired to utilize the wallet as a pocket secretary, in accordance with the illustration of Fig. 1, then the reinforcement element 21 is inserted in the pocket 20, so that it will maintain the wallet in erect fiat formation for use as a pocket secretary.

Thus, it can be seen that we have provided an article which may be used both as a pocket secretary, as well as a hip pocket wallet, or either as a pocket secretary or as a hip-type wallet. the transformation being rapid, requiring no adjustments, merely requiring that the reinforcement element 27 be placed in its proper position for determining either purpose or use of the wallet.

It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination I and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus disclosed and revealed our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A combination pocket secretary and hip pocket wallet, comprising front and rear oblong sections folded along longitudinal edges to form a hinge portion, the lower edges of the said oblong sections being secured defining a secretarial pocket, a reinforcement pocket on the inner wall of the said rear section and having its longi tudinal axis in coincidental relationship with the transverse axis of the said rear section, and reinforcement means removably securable within the said reinforcement pocket.

2. A combination pocket secretary and hip pocket wallet, comprising front and rear oblong sections folded along longitudinal edges to form a hinge portion, the lower edges of the said oblong sections being secured defining a secretarial pocket, a reinforcement pocket on the inner wall of the said rear section and having its longitudinal axis in coincidental relationship with the transverse axis of the said rear section, reinforcements means removably securable within the said reinforcement pocket, and a storage pocket adjacent the said reinforcement pocket to retain removably the said reinforcement means in inoperative position.

3. A combination pocket secretary and hip pocket wallet, comprising front and rear oblong sections folded along longitudinal edges to form a hinge portion, the lower edges of the said oblong sections being secured defining a secretarial pocket, a reinforcement pocket on the inner wall of the said rear section and having its longitudinal axis in coincidental relationship with the transverse axis of the said rear section, reinforcement means removably securable within the said reinforcement pocket, and a longitudinal slitted portion on the outer wall of the said rear oblon section adjacent the free edge thereof defining a currency holding pocket within the confines of the said rear oblong section.

4. A combination pocket secretary and hip pocket wallet, comprising front and rear oblong sections folded along longitudinal edges to form a hinge portion, the lower edges of the said oblong sections being secured defining a secretarial pocket, a reinforcement pocket on the inner wall of the said rear section and having its longitudinal axis in coincidental relationship with the transverse axis of the said rear section, reinforcement means removably securable within the said reinforcement pocket, a storage pocket adjacent the said reinforcement pocket to retain removably the said reinforcement means in inoperative position, and a longitudinal slitted portion on the outer wall of the said rear oblong section adjacent the free edge thereof defining a currency holding pocket within the confines of the said rear oblong section.
