Description
Nov. 20, 1951 E. s) NEAL TOILET BOWL DEODORANT DISPENSER Filed Dec. 6, 1948 Fig. 2.

Patented Nov. 20, 1 951 UNITED STATES PATENT orrlclz Application December 8, 1948, Serial No. 63,646
2 Claims. (Cl. 4-229) liquid deodorant which is stored in the toilet bowl attachment by means of capillary action through a wick or the like, exposing a portion of the wick or similar element to the atmosphere, thereby evaporating the deodorant and rendering it eifectual.
Other objects and features of the present invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art, in following the description of the preferred form of the invention, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a portion of a toilet bowl apparatus and construction showing the in-- vention applied thereto in phantom;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken substantially on the line 22 of Figure 3 and in the direction of the arrows;
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 3--3 of Figure 2 and in the direction of the arrows; and
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the attachment.
The present invention is adapted for use in deodorizing toilets, lavatories, and the zone immediately adjacent a toilet.
For illustrative purposes, a conventional toile bowl I is utilized with the usual and conventional seat [2 hingedly connected thereto through the medium of a conventional hinge structure M. The seat may have the usual rubber bumpers l6 attached thereto and any other appurtenance contiguous to toilet bowl constructions.
The attachment consists of a housing l8 having a substantially L-shaped configuration providing horizontal and vertical legs 20 and 24, respectively. The leg 20 of the housing 18 has a groove 22 disposed in one face thereof for the purpose of trapping glue or the like in the fasteningoi the housing to the under surface of the toilet seat [2. Hence, glue or other cementitious product which is utilized will not run over the edges of one leg of the substantially L-shaped housing if the amount of cementitious product utilized is chosen in substantially the proper quantities.
At the junction of the leg 20 and the leg 24 of the housing [8 there is an outwardly opening recess 26 provided which has passages 28 and 30,
respectively, communicating therewith. These passages also communicate with a compartment 32 which serves the purpose of a reservoir for deodorizing material in liquid form. A filler opening having a threadedly removable plug 36 disposed therein is formed in the said housing 18 and is in communication with the compartment 32. It is readily apparent that upon lifting the seat I2 about the hinge pin, the filler plug 36 is in the proper position for removal and for refilling of the deodorizing chamber or compartment 32.
Means for conducting liquid deodorizing material from the compartment 32 is disposed in the passages 28 and 30, respectively. The preferable means is a device which will be rendered operative by capillary action such as the wick 40. The ends of the wick are disposed in the compartment 32 and are preferably submerged in the fluid therein. An intermediate portion of the wick 4D is disposed in the recess 26, whereby it is exposed to the air in the atmosphere in order that the liquid which has risen by capillary action may evaporate for deodorizing purposes.
From the foregoing, a clear understanding of the invention and its operation is deemed apparent. However, it is appreciated that certain variations may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. An attachment adapted to be secured to a toilet which includes a seat on a bowl, said attachment comprising a housing having a substantially L-shaped configuration, one leg of said housing being disposed horizontally between the seat and the bowl and having a groove therein for accommodation of a cementitious product to attach the housing to the bottom surface of the seat, a second leg of said housing extending downwardly into the bowl, a reservoir to contain deodorant in said second leg, a filler plug for said reservoir disposed in the outer side of said second leg, means disposed in said reservoir for conducting fiuid therefrom by capillary action, said liquid conducting means comprising a wick having both ends disposed within said reservoir and having an exposed intermediate portion remote from said reservoir.
2. In a toilet construction which includes a bowl and a seat pivotally operable on said bowl, 2. deodorizing attachment comprising a substantially L-shaped housing, said housing consisting of two legs joined together integrally and forming a corner at the junction of said legs, one leg of said housing being secured to the bottom surface of said seat and in the rear thereof and located between the seat and the upper surface of the bowl, and the other leg of said housing depending downwardly into the bowl, said housing having a compartment to contain liquid deodorant in the depending leg thereof, a wick having its ends disposed in said compartment, the outer corner of said housing having an outwardly opening recess therein which opens toward the front of said seat, a portion of the bottom surface of said seat forming one wall of said '4 recess, and an intermediate portion of said wick being disposed in said recess.
