BLOUSE HOLDER Josephine C. Farquhar, Philadelphia, Pa.

Application June 4, 1949, Serial No. 97,184

1 Claim.

It is customary, particularly in womens garments, to secure in position the blouse, shirtwaist or other outer garment covering the trunk by means of a belt encircling the waist; but to insure against subsequent displacement of the blouse, and particularly against upward slippage, the belt must have an uncomfortably tight fit. Even then there is no assurance that the blouse will not slip upward and present a more or less unsightly appearance.

The object of my invention is to provide means whereby, when the blouse is adjusted with the precise degree of tightness or looseness required to present the most sightly appearance consistent with comfort, it is positively insured that the blouse will sufier no displacement regardless of any movements of the body which would normally effect such displacement.

A preferred embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the combination belt-carried blouse holder and stocking support.

Figs. 2 and 3 are respectively front and rear views showing the manner in which my device functions to hold the blouse from creeping or slipping and also to support the stockings of the wearer.

Figs. 4 and 5 are detail views of a modification.

In Figs. 2 and 3 a represents a blouse, shirtwaist or other garment covering the trunk of the human form. b (referring to all the figures) is a belt or girdle of any conventional type. To the belt, near its lower margin, is secured any desired number of buttons 0 spaced apart at suitable distances. Secured to the belt are a corresponding number of strips, straps, tapes or ribbons, d, that depend from the belt and are in vertical alignment with the respective buttons. On the end of each strip is a wire fastener e having a contracted end loop which is adapted to engage a corresponding button.

In operation the blouse, shirtwaist or other garment a extends down over and below the belt b and is then pulled down until it fits the trunk with the degree of looseness or tightness desired. The blouse thus overlies the upper portions of the strips d. Each strip is then folded upon itself around the lower edge of the blouse and its free end is moved upward until that part of the fastener e below its end loop aligns with the corresponding button c, but is separated from the button by the cloth of the blouse. is then pressed inward until the button covered Thereby the blouse is held from either downward movement or upward slippage; that is, it is held on the trunk of the wearer with the precise degree of looseness or tightness desired. f

A desirable modification is disclosed in Figs. 4 and 5, in which the buttons 0, and also, preferably, the strips d, are detachable. Thus both of them may be secured to one fork of a spring clip 2. which may be slipped over the upper edge of the belt or girdle k. When the forks of the spring clip close, button 0 and strip 41 occupy the same position relative to the belt or girdle as in the construction shown in Fig. 1.

In the preferred construction a plurality of additional strips, ribbons, tapes or the like, f, are secured at their upper ends to the belt and carry at their lower free ends fasteners g enga eable with the stockings h. Thereby, by means of a single dress auxiliary-the belt with its attachmentsmeans are provided to hold in desired position the blouse and to impose the desired upper pull or tension on the stockings.

What is claimed is:

A device adapted to insure against slippage from a desired position of a blouse, shirtwaist or other garment covering the trunk of a human body, which comprises a belt consisting of a suitable length of material adapted to encircle the waist of the wearer under and above ,the lower edge of the blouse, a series of spaced-apart buttons arranged on the outer face of said belt and thus under the blouse, a series of strips, corresponding in number to the buttons, depending from the belt and in substantial vertical alignment with the buttons and of a length sufficient to extend downward under the blouse and thence upward to approximately the level of the buttons,

' and fasteners at the ends of the strips, the

The fastener by the material of the blouse is projected outward relative to the fastener, which is then pulled downward until the closed loop end of the fastener engages the cloth-covered button.

fasteners having closed end hooks adapted, when the fastener ends of the depending strips are folded up and over the front of the blouse and over the button-holding area of the belt, to extend over the buttons and to be pulled down into engagement with the corresponding buttons covered by the cloth of the blouse.
