This invention concerns a mounting device for garments, such as mens trousers and the like, which facilitates the performance of certain work on the garment in time and labor saving manner, by supporting it in convenient fiat expanded condition and permitting selective rotational positioning thereof while in said condi' tion, and by effecting reversal of the garment in connection with its removal from the device.
The modern mass production methods practiced in garment factories involve the use of certain labor and time saving equipment intended to reduce production costs to a minimum. For example, power operated trimming and cutting waste disposing machines are extensively utilized, such as the one disclosed in F. Y. Kitzmiller U. S. Patent No. 2,113,112. In order that such machines may be used to best advantage, it becomes important that the garment, or other article to be operated on by the machine, be sup ported, or mounted, in such manner that the trimming, clipping or cutting device of the machine can be quickly and easily brought to the various operating points of the article, and also that the least amount of labor and time be en pended in successfully mounting and dismount-- ing the articles. Due to the differences in shape and general construction of different articles of wearing apparel, special mounting devices must be devised if these requirements are to be met. This involves difiiculties and problems peculiar to the particular garment to be so mounted.
One object of my invention is to provide a novel mounting device for mens trousers and the like, which overcomes the indicated other diillculties and problems.
Another object is to provide such a mounting device which embodies structural and functional features of advantage over the similar devices of the prior art.
A. further object is to provide such a mounting device which supports articles of wearing apparel, such as mens trousers and the like, in convenient, fiat expanded condition, permits selective rotational positioning thereof while in said condition effects reversal of the article in connection with its removal from the device.
An additional object is to provide such a de vice having novel means for effecting reversal of the garment article mounted thereon, in con nection with the removal of the article from the device.
It is also an object to provide such a mounting device which is adapted to be selectively rotated so as to successively bring certain parts of the article of wearing apparel. mounted thereon, into position to facilitate the performance of work. on the article, in conjunction with means on said device which will function to effect reversal of the article when removed from the device while the device is in one of its selected positions, but will not so function when the device is in another of said positions.
Another object is to provide such. a garment mounting device in which the said means for effecting reversal of the garment comprises an element arranged to be selectively moved so as to become either active or inactive, and which element has a portion, which when the element is active, is adapted to temporarily obstruct, or be temporarily engaged by, the edge of a tubular section of the garment, during the witl'ldrawing. movement of the garment from the device.
Other objects are, to provide a device for iounting thereon a garment, such as trousers and the like, comprising one or more novel features in combination, such as a vertically extending base member having pivotally connected thereto a flat horizontally extending form that is provided with an outline configuration substantially corresponding with the garment article, a ranged to insertedly support the latter in fiat condition and to be rotatively positioned relative to the base in selective manner; spring pressed members movably operative in selfadjusting manner along the side edges of said form to effect exertion of a lateral expanding tension on the garment article while mounted on the form; a pair of similar angularly-shaped rod-like elements extending beyond the fore end of the form, provided with one or more notches, a ball tip, or other means adapted to catch or obstruct the edge of a tubular section of the garment article when the latter is ceing pulledoff, or stripped, from the form, so as to effect reversal of the garment article, or tubular section, during such withdrawing action, and which rod-like elements are arranged to carry out said reversing function when the form is in one of its rotatively selected positions, but which will not so function when the form is in another rotatively selected position.
With these and other objects in view, which will become more apparent from the following detailed description of one practical and illustrative embodiment of my improvements shown in the accompanying drawings, the invention comprises the novel garment mounting device, elements, features of construction and arrangement of parts in cooperative relationship, as

'As previously indicated, the degree of time and labor saving efficiency attained with a machine of the type disclosed in said Patent No. 2,113,112, depends upon the ease and speed with which the clipping, trimming, or cutting device of said machine can be manipulated by an operator in the performance of his work. To attain maximum efiiciency, the'operator must not only be able to quickly bring the trimming device, by hand, to all the different locations of a garment, or other article to be trimmed, but if necessary, he must also be able to quickly reverse the garment, or
article, to permit trimming thereof on both sides. Furthermore, the operator must be able to quickly and easily effect successive substitution of the articles to be trimmed for those on which the trimming operations have been completed.
When the article to be trimmed can be readily held in one hand and the trimming device brought into action with the other hand, the attainment of a high efficiency factor for the trimming procedure, involves no particular problems. However, when the articles to be trimmed are in the form of garments, such as mens trousers or the like, i. e., relatively large, or unwieldy, the matter of providing suitable mounting means involves the solution of various problems. For example such problems as mounting the trousers so that all the parts thereof to be trimmed are readily accessible and are conveniently held in such position and condition as to facilitate the use of the trimming device on both the inside and the outside of the trousers; mounting the trousers so that the trimming device can be effectively manipulated with the least expenditure of time by the operator; mounting the trousers so that reversal of the latter may be effected with the least amount of effort and loss of time by the operator, etc.
The herein disclosed mounting device for mens pants, or trousers and the like, solves the indicated and other problems, and the device shown in the accompanying drawings constitutes one practical and illustrative form of my invention. The said device generally comprises a vertically extending support or base I, arranged to carry a horizontally extending freely and selectively rotatable pants or trousers mounting device 2, one
of cast iron or the like, which may be secured to the floor by suitable means, such as by screw bolts, a vertically extending steel tube or pipe 5, the lower end of which is fixedly secured in the base plate 4 and the upper end of which has fixedly secured thereto a T-shaped bearing element 6, provided with roller or needle bearings 1.
The needle bearings l are arranged to have mounted therein for free and selective rotation, a metallic tubular shaft 8, one end of which is flattened to form a slot for a tongue extension 9 of a substantially Hshaped steel frame section it. The tongue 9 is welded to the flattened part of the shaft 3, at i i, and the frame section it has secured thereto the trousers mounting device 2, by means of screw bolts '12. To prevent the shaft .2 from becoming longitudinally displaced, or from shifting in lengthwise direction, a dowel pin i3 is projectingly secured in the shaft 8 just beyond one end of the bearing element 6, and a screw M is similarly mounted at the other end of the bearing element ii. Obviously, two dowel pins, or two screws, may be so mounted, if desired, instead of one of each.
The trousers mounting device 2 comprises a flat form, the central section of which has the general outline configuration of the smallest pair of pants, or trousers, to be mounted thereon, and includes a pair of similar flat, plywood sections it and i6, that have smooth outer surfaces and are spaced about "-7 of an inch apart by the H- shaped frame E0, to which they are rigidly secured by screw bolts iii. In the center, the sections 15 i6 are provided with large diameter cut-outs into which extend protruding sections W and I6 adapted to bring the crotch sections of the trousers supported on the mounting device 2, up over the top of the form for better trimming and inspecting purposes.
Two similar flat side extension members It and it, also of plywood and about inch in thickness, are pivotally mounted at 28 and 2 9, respectively for lateral swinging movement, intermediate the sections 55 and it. The members 13 and it are shaped so as to take up the slack of the larger size pants, or trousers, supported on the mounting device 2, and are constantly urged to move outwardly by the action of two leaf springs 22 and 23, each having one end thereof trained about, and held in position, by fixed pins 22 and 23 respectively.
The members [3 and 19 have secured thereto elongated U-shaped metallic wear plates 2-5 and 25, against the side surfaces of which the free ends of the springs 22 and 23 are arranged to press and along which they slide during the swinging movement of the members i3 and i9. Secured to extend between the sections it and iii, are two spring tensioning pins 22 and 23 that are so located relative to the leaf springs 22 and 23, as to effect curved tensioning of the latter. To limit the inward and outward movement of the members 58 and Hi, the latter are provided with arcua'te movement limiting slots 25 and 2?, the
ends of which are adapted to abut against rollers 23 and 29, held in fixed position in said slots, intermediate the sections 55 and It, by screw bolts 3d and 35, as clearly shown in Fig. i. In order to prevent weakening or damage to the inner wall ends of the slots 26 and 21, during sudden outward movement of the members it and i9, metallic U-shaped wear plates 32 and 33 are secured to the inner edges of the members i8 and I9, which wear plates are provided with cut-out wall portions conforming in shape with the inner ends of the slots 26 and 27. If it is desired to increase the outward movement of the members 18 and E9, the screw bolt and roller units 2$-3 and 2l--3l may be mounted in similar manner in two adjustment apertures 35 and 3?, which eX- tend through the members i5 and it and are provided for this purpose.
The pants or trousers reversing means generally comprises two similar, angularly-shape; metal castings, or elements 37, each of which is provided with an integral flat cross-member 3i, adapted to be secured between the spaced free end sections of the members i5 iii, by screw bolts 37*. The integral horizontally and right angularly extending shank sections of the elements 3! are circular in cross-section the right-angularly extending sections are provided with notches 33 and ball tip members Kil Operation The pants or trousers, indicated by the letter P in Fig. 6, are first turned inside-out and then pulled onto the trousers mounting device 2, from the right-hand end, as seen in said figure, with the device 2 positioned so that the right-angu larly extending parts of the elements 3'! are turned to point ertically down. As the trousers are slipped onto the device 2, the springs 22 and 23 are first automatically compressed to a certain extent, and then move the members it and ii! outwardly, so that when the trousers are in erly mounted position as shown in 6, the device 2 is insertedly positioned between the substantially tubular contiguous leg-and-body seotions of the trousers, in such manner that these sections are flattened out and laterally tensioned condition.
The operator of a trimming machine of the type disclosed in said Patent No. 2,113,112,
manipulates the trimming, clipping, or cutting device of the machine, by hand, so as to remove all the thread ends, waste material, etc., from the top portion of the trousers exposed to view.
The trousers mounting device 2 is next turned upside down by the operator, this being effected by rotational movement of the device through an angle of 180 degrees. The trimming, clipping, or cutting operation is then repeated on the newly exposed upper portion of the trousers. Since the trousers mounting device 2 has been rotated through an angle of 189 degrees, the right-angularly extending portions of the elements 3! now point upwardly, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and '7.
The trousers are next removed, or stripped, from the device 2. This is accomplished by grasping the sides of the trousers, substantially at the body section thereof. and pulling the trousers from the device 2, in the right hand direction as seen in Fig. 6. This stripping action causes the bottom edges of the trousers cuffs to be caught in one of the notches 3?, or under the ball tip 31 of the upstanding right-angularly extending sections of the elements 37, as indicated by the solid line representation thereof marked A in Fig. so that further movement of these bottom edge sections is prevented, or structed, until the body and leg sections of the trousers have been stripped from the device 2.
At the end of this trousers removing action, the l.
trousers cufis will also slip over, or pass beyond the upstanding ends of the elements 31.
The trousers have now been turned right-side out, and while in said condition are again slipped, or pulled, onto the trousers mounting device 2, as before.
The operator then again utilizes the trimming, clipping, or cutting device to remove all the .thread ends, waste material, etc., from the top portion of the trousers exposed to view. The trousers mounting device is then turned upside down by the operator, by rotational movement of the device through an angle of 180) degrees. The trimming, clipping, or cutting operation is repeated on the newly exposed upper portion of the trousers. By this time, the right-angularly extending portions of the elements 33' are positioned to point downwardly, as indicated by the dot-a11d-dasli representation thereof in Fig. 7.
The trimming operations having been completed on both the inside and the outside of the trousers, the latter are then pulled, or stripped from the mounting device 2, by substantially the same movement as before, but this time the elements 3'! will not function to efiect reversal of the trousers, since the right-angularly extending sections thereof are pointed downwardly, and the bottom edges of the trousers cuffs will readily slip thereover, as indicated by the dot-'and-dash representation thereof marked B, in Fig. 7.
The device 2 is now in readiness to receive the next pair of trousers, for repetition of the trimming operation, substantially as above described.
Modifications Of course, the trousers mounting device specifically shown and described, can be changed and modified in various ways, and can be adapted for other purposes, without departing from the invention herein disclosed and more particularly defined by the hereto appended claims.
I claim:
1. A device for mounting thereon a garment having a plurality of tubular sections, comprising a rotatable garment supporting form arranged to insertedly support said tubular sections, and means arranged to effect reversal of the garment during its withdrawing movement from the form when the form is in one of its operative positions and which will not effect reversal when the form is in another of its operative positions.
2. A device for mounting thereon a garment having a plurality of tubular sections, comprising a rotatable flat garment supporting form arranged to insertedly support said tubular section in substantially fiat condition, and means arranged to effect reversal of the garment during its withdrawing movement from the form when the form is in one of its operative positions and which will not effect reversal when the form is in another of its operative positions.
3. A device for mounting thereon a garment having a plurality of tubular sections, comprising a fiat garment supporting form arranged to insertedly support said tubular sections in substantially flat condition, means arranged to eiiect lateral tensioning of the garment sections while on the form, and means arranged to effect reversal of the garment during its withdrawing movement from the form.
4. A device for mounting thereon a garment composed of a plurality of contiguous substantially tubular sections, comprising a base, and a flat garment supporting form connected with said base so as to be rotatively positionable relative 7 to the latter in selective manner and arranged to jointly and insertedly support each of said tubular sections in substantially fiat condition.

A device for mounting thereon a garment having a plurality of tubular sections; comprising a base; a garment supporting form connected with said base so as to be rotatively positionable relative to the latter in selective manner and arranged to jointly and insertedly sup-port said tubular sections; and means arranged to effect reversal of the garment during its withdrawing movement from the form. a
7. A device for mounting thereon a garmen having a plurality of tubular sections; comprising a base; a fiat garment supporting form connected with said base so as to be rotatively positionable relative to the latter in selective manner and arranged to insertedly support said tubular sections in substantially fiat condition; and means arranged to effect reversal of the garment during its withdrawing movement from the form when the latter is in one of its selected rotary positions, but which means will not effect such reversal when the garment is withdrawn while the form is in another of its selected positions.
8. A device for mounting thereon a garment having a plurality of tubular sections; comprising a base; a garment supporting form connected with said base so as to be rotatively positionable relative to the latter in selective manner and arranged to insertedly support said tubular sections in at tensioned condition; and means arranged to effect reversal of the garment during its withdrawing movement from the form when the latter is in one of its selected rotary positions, but which means will not effect such reversal when the garment is withdrawn while the form is in another or its selected rotary positions.
9. In a device for mounting thereon a garment having a plurality of substantially tubular sections, the combination with a rotatable garment supporting form arranged to insertedly support said tubular sections, of means at one end of said form arranged to efiect reversal of the sections during the stripping movement of the garment from the form when the garment supporting form is in one of its operative positions and which will not eiiect reversal of the tubular sections when the garment supporting form is in another of its operative positions.
10. In a device for mounting thereon a garment having a plurality of substantially tubular sections, the combination with a rotatable garment supporting form arranged to insertedly support said tubular sections, of means projecting beyond one end of said form and arranged to effect reversal of the sections during the stripping movement of the garment from the form when the garment supporting form is in one of its operative positions and which will not effect reversal of the tubular sections when the garment supporting form is in another of its operative positions. 7
11. In a device for mounting thereon a garment having a plurality of substantially tubular sections, the combination with a rotatable garment supporting form arranged to insertedly support said tubular sections, of a plurality of elements at one end of said form each provided with garment edge obstructing means effective in causing reversal of the sections during the stripping movement of the garment from the form when the garment supporting form is in one of its operative positions and which will not cause reversal of the sections during the stripping movement of the garment from the form when the garment supporting form is in another of its operative positions.
12. In a device for mounting thereon a garment having a substantially tubular section, the
combination with a garment supporting form arranged to insertedly support said section, of a rod-like element at one end of said form projecting transversely thereto and arranged to effect reversal'of the section during the withdrawing movement of the garment from the form.
13. In a device for mounting thereon a garment having a substantially tubular section, the
combination with a garment supporting form arranged to insertedly support said section, of a rod-like element at one end of said form projecting transversely thereto and provided with one or more notches adapted to catch the edge of said section so as to efiect reversal of the latter during the withdrawing movement of the garment from the form. 14. In a device for mounting thereon a garment having a substantially tubular section, the combination with a garment supporting form arrange to insertedly support said section, of a rod-like element at one end of said form and projecting outwardly therefrom provided with a ball tip member adapted to obstruct the edge of said section so as to effect reversal of the latter during the withdrawing movement of the garment from the form.
15. In a device for mounting thereon a garment having a substantially tubular section, the
combination with a garment supporting form arranged to insertedly support said section, of an angularly-shaped rod-like element at one end'of said form provided with one or more notches and a ball tip member adapted to obstruct passage of the edge of said section thereby to efiect reversal of the latter during the withdrawing movement of the garment from the form.
16. A device for mounting trousers thereon, comprising a rotatable flat form having the general outline configuration of the trousers and arranged to insertedly support the tubular sections of the latter in a plurality of operative positions, and means arranged to effect reversal of the trousers during the withdrawing movement of the latter from the form when said flat form is in one of its operative positions.

A device for mounting trousers thereon, comprising a rotatable flat form having the general outline configuration of the trousers and arranged to insertedly support the tubular sections of the latter in a plurality of operative positions, and means arranged to exert a lateral expanding tension on said sections while the trousers are on the form when said flat form is in one of its operative positions.
18. A device for mounting trousers thereon, comprising a rotatable fiat form having the general outline configuration of the trousers and arranged to insertedly support the tubular sections of the latter in a plurality of operative positions, means arranged to exert a lateral expanding ten- 9 sion on said sections while the trousers are on the form, and means arranged to effect reversal of the trousers during the withdrawing movement of the latter from the form when said flat form is in one of its operative positions.
19. A device for mounting trousers thereon; comprising a base; a flat form which is connected with the base so as to be rotatively positionable relative to the latter in selective manner and which is provided with an outline configuration corresponding substantially with the outline configuration of the trousers so as to insertedly support the tubular sections of the latter in fiat condition; and means arranged to effect reversal of the trousers durin the stripping movement of the latter from the form while the latter is in one of its selected rotary ositions, but which means will not effect such reversal when the trousers are stripped from the form while the latter is in another of its selected rotary positions.
20. A device for mounting trousers thereon; comprising a vertically extending base; a flat form which is pivotally connected with the base so as to extend horizontally therefrom so as to be rotatively positionable relative to the base in selective manner and which form has the general outline configuration of the trousers and is 10 arranged to insertedly support the tubular sections of the latter; spring pressed members movable outwardly from the side edges of the form and arranged to exert a lateral expanding tension on said sections of the trousers; and a pair of similar angularly-sha-ped rod-like elements extending beyond the free end of the form and. arranged to effect reversal of the trousers during the stripping movement of the latter from the form while the latter is in one of its selected rotary positions, but which elements will not eiTect such reversal when the trousers are stripped from the form while the latter is in another of its selected rotary positions.
