Description

H. E. ANDERSON HOLDER FOR ROLL MATERIALS May 29, 1951 Filed July 11, 1950 INVENTOR. l-leunx E. Auoensou AT TO QM EYS 22 I By I #xQa/z/z'dam Patented May 29', 195i UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HOLDER FOR ROLL MATERIALS Henry E. Anderson, San Diego, Calif.
Application July 11, 1950, Serial No. 173,056
4 Claims. (01. 242-552) roll of material which is withdrawable from and retractible within a housing.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a holder in which a roll of webbing may be readily mounted for rotational movement.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a holder for dispensing paper from a roll of paper, such as toilet tissue, which is mounted in a bathroom wall and is enclosed to improve the appearance and to hide the unsightly roll from normal view. v
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds, and reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the holder according to the present invention; with parts of the holder housing broken away;
Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure l; and
Figure 4 is a perspective view showing the slide support removed from the box.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, wherein like reference numerals indicate like parts, the holder comprises a box or housing H including a bottom wall l2, spaced side walls l3 and I4 positioned upon and secured to the bottom wall, an end wall I5 extending between one end of the side walls I3 and I4 and secured thereto, and a top wall 23 resting upon said side walls l3 and I4 and end wall l5 and secured thereto, to thereby form a housing having an open front which is adapted to be attached to either a wall surface or to be inset in an opening in a wall surface.
A slide I8, having one end extending into the open front of the housing, is mounted in said housing for movement into and out of the open front thereof. The slide l8 comprises a pair of side members and 2i arranged in spaced, parallel relation with one end extending into the open front of the housing, and slidably supported on the bottom wall l2, the members 20 and 2| being spaced inwardly from the side walls I3 and M, respectively. Extending across the other end of the members 20 and 2| and secured thereto is a cover 22 which bears against the bounding walls of the open front of the housing when the slide is in its position within the housing. The
2 cover includes a plate 24 which is secured to one face of a second plate 39. Plate 24 snugly fits the inside of the box, as shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3, to provide a dust-tight fit. The plate 24 has grooves 26, 21 to receive side members 20, 2|, respectively, for afiixing the side members relative to the plate. The second plate 39 is fixed to plate 24 to provide a flange extending around plate 24 to abut the front edges of the top, side and bottom walls, and includes a skirt 38 extending below the housing.
The side members 20 and 2| are provided with openings or recesses28 and 29, respectively, open at the upper edge andtogether form a means forrotatably supporting a hollow, cylindrical arbor 30, the arbor being adapted to support a roll. IQ for rotation therearound. These openings are positioned so as to be centrally disposed relativeto the sides of the box, so as to avoid Wasting of.
- bers for fixedly securing the guide bar in place.
The bottom wall l2 of the housing is provided with an outlet means adjacent the open front for the egress therethrough of an end of the roll l9 when the slide [8 is in its position within the housing H. Such means comprises a cutout 34 intermediate the side edges of the bottom wall l2 extending inwardly from the end adjacent to the open front of the housing and terminating at a point spaced from said one end, the portions of bottom wall l2 between the cutout 34 and the adjacent side edges forming ledges 35 and 35 for slidably supporting the said one end of the side members 20, 2|. The cutout is for the egress therethrough of a selected portion of the web 3"! on the roll l9, and is of sufficient width to enable the web 31 to freely pass therethrough.
It will be apparent that the holder may be made of any suitable material, including plastics, wood, metal, compositions, and so forth.
In operation of the holder of the present invention, the slide I8 is withdrawn and the arbor 30 removed therefrom, and the arbor is inserted through a roll of material l9 and the ends of the arbor with the roll thereon are placed in openings or recesses 28 and 29. The web of material is then threaded over the guide bar 3| and is extended below the skirt 38 of cover 22.
The slide is then inserted into the housing through the open front until cover 22 abuts the front edges of the housing walls and plate 24 snugly fits the inside of the open end. The web of paper 31 may then be pulled as desired to obtain the desired quantity. It will be noted that the lower edge of cover 22 extends below the box to provide a skirt 38 against which the web of paper may be torn.
Having thus; described; the present; invention, what is claimed is:
1. A holder for roll material comprising a housing having an open front, a slide having one end extending into the housing, and. mounted. in said housing for sliding movement into and out of the open front of the housing, meanson said slide for rotatably supporting a roll of material, a cover on the other end of said slide and bearing against the bounding walls of said open front when the slide is in its position within the housing, and an outlet means: in the bottom of said housingadjacent the open front for the egress therethrough' of an end of said roll of material when the slide is in its position within the housing.
2. A holder for roll material comprising a housing having an open front, aslide having one end extending into the'housing and mounted in said housing for sliding movement into and out of the open front of the housing, means on said slide for rotatably supporting a roll of material, a cover on the other end of said slide and bearing against the bounding walls of said open front when the slide is inits position within the housing, an outlet means in the bottom of said housing adjacent the open front for the egress therethrough of an end of said roll of material when the slide is in its position within the housing, and a guide bar on said slide and spaced from said means for receivin and guiding the portion of the material to be detached from said roll of material.
3. A holder for roll material comprising a bottom wall, spaced side walls positioned upon and secured to the bottom wall, an end wall extending between said side walls adjacent one end and secured thereto to thereby form a housing having an open front, a slide having one end extending into; the housing and mounted in said housing for slidin movement into and" out of the open front of the housing, means on said slide for rotatably supporting a roll of material, a cover; on. the. other end of said slide and bearing against the bounding walls of said open front wh'en'the slide is in its position within the housing and. an outlet means in the bottom of said housing adjacent the open front for the egress thereth'rough of an end of said roll of material when the slide is in its position within the hous- 4. A holder. for roll, material comprisin a. bot. tom wall, spaced. side. walls. positioned upon and, secured to said bottom wall, an end wall extend.- ing between andsecured to the side walls, thereby forming a housing having an open front, a slide positioned within the housing. and sup, ported for sliding movement on the bottom wall for supporting a roll of material at one end thereof, said slide comprising a pair of spaced side members positioned adjacent to andspaced from the side walls. of the housing, and a cover secured to, the other ends of the side members: to retain the side members in spaced relation, each side memberv being provided with an opening to receive one, end of an arbor for rotation of the arbor therein.
