CHILDREN'S FEEDING DEVICE Filed Aug. 5, 1948 9 i i ffi Patented Mar. 20, 1951 CHILDRENS FEEDING DEVICE Adolph Goldfarb, Chicago, Ill., assignor to Max B. Kraus, Chicago, 111., as trustee Application August 5, 1948, Serial No. 42,599
1 Claim.
This invention relates to childrens feeding devices, and particularly to a device for use by children in connection with the drinking of liquids and the like.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a new and novel device which will stimulate the childs interest in drinking liquids, such as milk, juices and the like.
It is an accepted fact that children have to be encouraged to drink milk, juices and other liquids and that parents spend considerable time, effort and patience in this direction.
It is therefore an object of this invention to provide a device which will serve as a stimulant for children to drink milk and other liquids by providing means for engaging their attention while drinking and encouraging them to drink.
Other objects will become apparent as this description progresses.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one form of my invention shown applied to a drinking glass.
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of my device, and
Fig. 4 is a perspective View of a modified form of construction.
The device shown in Figs. 1, 2-and 3, and generally indicated by the numeral III is the preferred form and is preferably made or molded of plastic or like material so that it may be readily cleaned and may be sanitarily maintained. It comprises a disc or cap, or cover portion I2 having a fiat top surface and a circumference to cover any conventional standard drinking The can has an arcuate shaped slot I 4 of substantially of the circumference of the cap.
Centrally and rotatably mounted and supported on said cap by a pin I5 anchored in said cap is a toy figure, generally indicated at I6, and
/ in the instance shown the figure simulates a kitten, althou h it will be understood that any other desired toy figure may be used. The front or paw portion I? of the toy figure extends over the slot I4 and has an. opening I8 wh ch is in alignment with the arcuate slot I4. The opening I8 receives and supports a drinking straw I9 which likewise passes through the arcuate slot and into the interior of the drinking glass 20 which is filled with the liquid. I
The toy figure I6 supports the drinking straw and may be rotated or moved back and forth with the straw therein the length of the arcuate slot I4.
On the underside of the cap there is permanently secured three equally spaced supporting members 22, all of identical construction. Each supporting member has a plurality of steps 23 and 24 which form the bases by which the unit is supported and secured to the lip 2| of the drinking glass. The steps provide a plurality of circumferences permitting the unit to fit drinking glasses -of different sized circumferences. As shown, the steps 24 engage the tip 2| and securely support the device on the top of the glass. With a drinking glass of a smaller circumference, the lip of the glass would engage the steps 23. Obviously more steps may be provided, dependent on the number of glasses desired to be accommodated or fitted.
In Fig. 4 is shown a modified construction, generally indicated by the numeral 25. This construction is likewise molded of plastic and is preferably integrally formed and has a cap or disc portion 26 and a toy character 28 molded integrally with the cap portion so as to be stationary with res ect to said cap portion. An arcuate shaped slot 30 similar to slot I4 is provided through which, the drinking straw is inserted into the glass. The underside of the cap portion has permanently secured thereto three equally spaced supporting members 32, provided with steps 33 and 34. similar to the supporting members 22. previously described.
Instead of providing the construction shown in Fig. 4. the can and toy character may be inte rallv cast or formed and made to appear like that shown in Fi s. 1 to 3, except that the toy character IR would be stationary with respect to the cap. The front or paw portion of the character would have an opening for receiving the drinking straw, similar to opening I8. and the arcuate s ot It could be eliminated a d an opening provided in said cap aligning with the straw opening.
With my invention the childs interest in drinking the liqui is maintained for it creates the impression that the tov figure is drinking simultaneously with the child.
It will be understood that various changes may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
I claim:
A. toy device comprising a cover adapted to provide a closure for a drinking glass. said cover having an o ening therein, a re resentation of a figure pivotal y mounted on said cover and having a forward portion arranged to overlie a portion of said opening, said representation having an aperture in the forward portion thereof 3 through which a tube may be inserted in the drinking glass, said representation being adapted for limited movement by said drinking tube when the same is inserted through said aperture.
