JAMES FULTON, OF GREAT BEND, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO HASKEL B. FULTON, OF SAME PLACE.
MOWlNG-MACHINE SEAT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 254,300, dated February 28, 1882.
Application filed July 22, 1881.
Be it known that I, JAMES FULTON, of Great Bend, in the county of Jefferson and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mowing-Machine Seats, of which the following is a specification.
The object ofmy invention is such construction and attachment of the seat to the seatstandard of mowing, reaping, and similar machines that the sudden lateral motion given to the seat-standard while passing over rough and uneven ground will not be communicated to the rider, thus relieving the machine and rider of the severe strain and jolting due to such motion.
The invention consists principally of supporting the seat upon links suspended from the ends of suitable projections or arms of the seat-standard, whereby the seat is made an oseillnting one in any direction.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure'l is a side elevation of my improved mowing-machine seat. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation, and
Fig. 3 is a bottom view, of the same.
(No model.)
part of the seat is connected to the standard below the bifurcation by the linked tie or support I), which prevents the tipping ot' the seat too far back. Thus constructed, the seat-standard is free to move from side to side with the up-and-down movementof the axle of the machine without suddenly carrying the weight of the rider with it, which is a relief to the rider and the machine.
It is obvious that various constructions for suspending the seat might be devised and not depart from the spirit of my invention. The means shown and described for suspending the seat are, however, the preferred means.
-Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, with the standard A and seat B, of the support D and links 0, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, with the standard A, provided with the bifurcations a and the seat B, of the support D, provided with the lateral arms (I, and the links 0, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination, with the standard A, provided with bifurcations a and the seat B, of the support D, provided with the arms d, the links 0, and the linked tie b, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
JAMES FULTON.
