NEIL MOLEAN, OF WATSONVILLE, CALIFORNIA.
GRAIN-SAVING ATTACHMENT FOR SEPARATORS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 253,936, dated February 21, 1882.
Application filed August 31, 1881.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NEIL MGLEAN, of Wats'onville, county of Santa Cruz, State of California, have invented a Grain-Saving Attachment for Separators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my grainsaving attachment. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, showing its position in relation to the straw-carrier frame. Figs. 3 and 4 are details to be referred to.
My invention relates to grain-savin g devices for thrashing-machines; and it consists in the details of construction of a supplemental attachment to the straw-carrier, whereby the straw is stirred and agitated as it leaves the carrier, so the grain mechanically entangled in the straw may escape and be recovered, all of which is hereinafter described and specifically claimed.
In order that those skilled in the art may make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the manner in which I have carried it out.
In the said drawings, 0 (J are the side boards of the saving attachment, and A is a fixedinclined bottom, the lower edge, a, of which slightly overlaps a perforated screen, K, the
journaled over floor A are two shafts, B B, each provided with a set of radial fingers, t t, and reels A A.
The shafts M, B, and B are provided with pulleys and belts driven fromthe main pulley, whereby they are revolved in the direction in- (No model.)
dicated by the arrows, and with them are revolved the fingers and reels.
On the end of shaft M is a crank, P,- which oscillates, through the medium of pitmanQ, a
passes between the sides 0, over shafts B B" with their revolving fingers and reels, which loosen and agitate the straw, so that the entangled grain may fall upon floor A, whence it slides upon screen K and passes through the perforations. Short straw and chaff also fall on floor A and pass upon screen K, and, it allowed to accumulate, would interrupt the passageof the grain. The short straw and chaff are thrown by the fingers a it out of the attachment beneath the straw-carrier in a direction opposite to the feed of the straw.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The supplemental attachment to thestrawcarrier of a grain-separator, consisting of the spout formed by side boards, 0 0, having the inclined floor A, and revolving shaftsB B, provided with fingers t t, and reels A A, the screwconveyer I, spout J, perforated screen K, and revolving shaft M, provided with fingers a a, all constructed, arranged, and operated as set forth.
In witness whereof I-have hereunto set my hand.
Witnesses:
GEO. H. STRONG, FRANK A. BROOKS.
