This invention relates to an ornamental chain such as might be used for a bracelet to extend about the wrist of the wearer or it might be used for various other purposes.

Ornamental chains are frequentl formed of a comparatively complicated structure and some means are provided for connecting the links together. Quite frequently this connecting means forms a separate distinct part of the chain and the body portions of the links are definitely spaced apart to such an extent that the connecting portion becomes prominent.

One of the objects of this invention is to provide a chain with the body portions of the links closely related and the connecting portion between the body so arranged that it is relatively inconspicuous.

Another object of this invention is to provide an ornamental chain which will be extremely flexible and may be folded back upon itself through substantially 180 in one direction if desired.

Another object of this invention is, to provide an ornamental chain in which each of the links will be of identical construction.

Another object of this invention is to cut from sheet stock a suitable shape of link which may be easily rolled into the form desired and in such rolling provide the connection between the parts.

Another object of this invention is to provide an extremely simple ornamental chain and one which is also easy to assemble.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In proceeding with this invention, I cut from sheet stock a substantially rectangular piece of material which i notched at one end and provided with a T-shaped tongue at the other end, and I then roll this formation into substantially cylindrical form with the notched edge substantially abutting the edge from which the T-shaped tongue extends and at the same time bend out the T-shaped tongue so that it protrudes substantially radially from the cylindrical formation. Forming the next link at the time of rolling, the notch is placed about the T-shaped head of the link first formed; and, thus, the head of the tongue is located within the tubular link so as to be connected thereto. The extent of the notch controls the amountof flexiblity which is per mitted between one link and the next; and, in the most desired construction, this flexibility will be substantially throughout 180 so that the chain may be folded back upon itself if desired without rupture of any of the parts.

With reference to the drawings, 10 designates a blank which is cut from sheet stock and is provided at on edge II, with a notch 12 extending inwardly from this edge. The opposite edge l3 of this blank has a tongue [4 extending there: from which consists of a neck portion l5 and a head portion l 6 extending laterally at either side of the end of the neck I5.

After the blank is formed, as shown in Fig. 5, the tongue l4 will be bent outwardly from the edge I3, and then the blank will be rolled so as to bring the opposite edges II and I3 into substantial adjacency or into abutting relation, such as shown in Fig. 6, thus completing the form of one link. In order to connect the next link to the first link and at the time of forming the next link, the notch [2 will be located about the neck l5 of the link first formed, and then this will be rolled into substantially the tubular shape illustrated in Figs. 6 and '7 in order that the connection may be performed. By this arrangement, the notch I2 is located at the bottom of the structure, as shown in Fig. '7 or in Fig. 4 and a freedom of swinging of one link with reference to the other by reason of the neck l5 of the tongue sliding through the notch may be had. When the notch is of the extent which is illustrated in. the drawing, one link may be swung substantially through 180 with reference to its next link or so as to cause the bottom surface of one link of the chain to be folded back against the bottom surface oi another link of the chain without rupture of any of the parts.

I claim:

1.
