This invention relates to hand Staplers.
An object of this invention is to provide a stapler of the character described, comprising a main frame, an anvil arm pivoted to the main frame at its rear end, a handle pivoted to the anvil arm at a point spaced from the pivotal connection between the anvil arm and the main frame, the pivot between the handle and the anvil arm having a limited movement relative to the main frame, a driver arm pivoted to the main frame, a staple driver blade adapted to be moved by the driver arm towards an anvil on the anvil arm, and links interconnecting the driver arm with the handle, the connection between the links and the handle being forwardly of the pivotal connection between the handle and the anvil arm, whereby the staple may be held in the hand, and the handle and main frame squeezed together, first causing the anvil arm to swing about its pivotal connection to the main frame for bringing the anvil upwardly toward the main frame and for thereafter causing the handle to rotate about its pivotal connection to the anvil arm for pulling down on the link to lcause the driver arm to rotate about its pivotal i connection to the main frame for causing the driver blade to press a staple against the anvil.
Another object of this invention is to provide a hand stapler of the character described, in-
cluding a staple magazine case which may be inserted into the main frame through the front end of the main frame and a magazine lock arranged to be snapped onto the main frame for locking the magazine in position within the frame.
Yet a further object of this invention is to provide in a stapler of the character` described, a pusher rod for the staple magazine, and a pusher rod lock attached to the rod and releasably engageable with the magazine.
Still a further object of this invention is to provide in a stapler of the character described, which shall be relatively inexpensive to manufacture, which shall be easy to assemble, which shall provide increased leverage to facilitate driving staples, which is so arranged that the device may be easily loaded with additional staples, and which shall ryet be compact and practical and efficient to a high degree in use.
Other objects oi this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts, which will be exemplied in the construction hereinafter described,

Referring now in detail to the drawing, l0 designates a hand stapler embodying the invention for driving U-shaped staples of the usual kind which may have a crown and two parallel legs. rIhe stapler l0 comprises generally a main frame Il, to which is pivoted an anvil arm I 2, as on pivot i 3, and a handle I4, pivoted to the anvil arm t2 by means of a pivot pin l5 passing through aligned slots i6 in the main frame, and a driver arm Il pivoted to the main frame on pivot I9 and adapted to drive a blade 20 for forcing staples on a staple magazine 2l towards an anvil 22 on the anvil arm I2, the driver arm ilV being connected to the handle I4 by means of a link 23.
The main frame li may be a metal stamping and comprises parallel side walls 25 interconnected by a top crown portion 23 running the full length of the frame. The crown 23 may be 3 curved as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawing. The side walls 25 are similar and symmetrically disposed. They are formed at the rear with downwardly and inwardly inclined edges 2l extending to 9, downwardly and rearwardly curved edge 28, from which extends rearwardly and downwardly inclined edges 2S. Extending from the edges 29 are downwardly and forwardly curved edges 35, from which extend downwardly and inwardly inclined edges Si. Extending from the edges 3i are short horizontal edge portions 32, from which extend upwardly and forwardly inclined edges 33. Extending upwardly from the forward end of edges 33 are edges 35, from which there extends rearwardly horizontal edges 35. Extending upwardly from the edges 35 are edges 35 from which there extends forwardly horizontal edges 3l. Extending upwardly from the edges 3l.' are square notches 38, each comprising a pair of parallel vertical edges 38a and a top horizontal edge 38h. The forward ends of edges 3? are disposed rearwardly of the forward ends of the top wall 25. Extending upwardly from the forward ends of edges 3l] are vertical edges 49, terminating at eta below the top wall 25. The
Yedges 45 are formed with notches 5l for the purpose hereinafter appearing.
`Extending forwardly from the upper ends of edges 45) are horizontal under edges e2. Extending upwardly from the forward end of edge 42 is a vertical edge 53, terminating somewhat below the top wall 25. Extending forwardly from the upper end of edge 43 is an edge M, which extends to the forward edge #i5 of the top wall 25.
The top wall 25 has a downwardly and forwardly inclined rear portion 25a, a central horizontal portion 25h and a downwardly inclined forward end portion 25o, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing. The side walls 25 (Fig. 7) are furthermore formed with inwardly punched detents 55, located centrally above the notches 3B. Said side walls 25 are furthermore formed with small square openings 5 I located just above the detents '50.
The side walls of the main frame Il are furthermore formed with aligned openings 52, located below the rear portion 25a of the top wall 25 and just forwardly of the curved edges 28, to receive the pivot pin i9, which pivotally connects the driver arm Il with the main frame.
The side walls of the main frame are furthermore formed with aligned openings 53 disposed just above the inclined edge 3l, and substantially at the level of the curved edges 3B. Said openings 53 are located somewhat more forwardly than the openings 52. Said openings receive the pivot pin i which pivotally connects the anvil arm I2 to the main frame.
Said side walls 25 are furthermore formed withk slots l 6, as stated above, through which the pivot pin i5 may move. The slots it are located substantially above the horizontal edge 32 of the side walls and project above and below the level of the openings 53. Said side walls 25 are furthermore formed with similar symmetrically disposed outwardly projecting substantially rectangular wall portions 55. Said wall portions 55 are located between the slots i5 and the vertical edges Said recessed wall portions furthermore extend substantially from the level of the edges 35, to a point below the level of the openings 52. Said side walls 25 (Fig. 3) are furthermore formed jrst above the edges 32 with aligned rectangular slots 5l', for the purpose hereinafter appearing.
The side walls 25 of the main frame il are furthermore formed with a pair of parallel, inwardly pressed horizontal ribs 58 and 59 (Fig. 5). The ribs 58 and 55 of one wall are aligned with the ribs 55 and 59 of the other wall. The upper rribs 5S are preferably disposed more rearwardly than the lower ribs 55. The lower ribs 59 are located just below the level of the bottom edges 57, for the purpose hereinafter appearing. The upper ribs 58 are spaced above the ribs 55 by a predetermined vertical distance, as will appear hereinafter.
The anvil arm l2 comprises a pair of parallel symmetrical disposed side walls 55 interconnected. by a bottom wall 5 i. The side walls are formed with upper edges 52, parallel to the bottom wall 6l. Said side walls 55 are formed with inwardly depressed portions 53 (Fig. 6) aligned with the outwardly depressed portions 55 of the main frame. Extending downwardly from the rear ends of the top edges 52 are inclined edges (Fig. 3), which extend to the rear edge Sie; of the bottom wall 5 l Extending downwardly from the forward ends of edges 52 are edges 55 which are substantially aligned with the edges of the side walls of the main frame. Extending forwardly from edges 55 are edges 55 somewhat downwardly inclined. At the forward end of edges 55 are downwardly extending notches 5i (Fig. ll). Forwardly of the notches 5l are upwardly extending projections 58, the upper edges of which are in alignment with the edges 1Eorwardly of the projections 55 is a continuous depressed edge 65 at the level of the bottom of the notches El and extending around the front end of an upwardly and forwardly curved wall 'le which interconnects the bottom wall 5i with the side wall G5. The side walls 55 are formed adjacent their rear ends with aligned openings i2 registering with the openings 53 and through which extends the pivot pin I3. The ends of the pin i3 may be riveted over so as to prevent side shifting of said pivot pin. The side walls 50 are furthermore formed, just rearwardly of the inwardly depressed portion 63 with aligned through openings 713 which are at the level of the openings 'i2, and through which the pivot pin l5 passes.
The bottom wall 5l is formed adjacent its rear edge 5ta with a rivet opening for the purpose hereinafter appearing. Said bottom wall is furthermore formed with a rivet hole aligned with the projection 53, for the purpose hereinafter appearing.
Mounted on the front end of the anvil arm i2 is an anvil l5. Said anvil l5 may be formed with notches 'il to receive the projections 58. anvil rests on the bottom edges of the notches al and also on the edges It may be fornvd with usual anvil grooves 'i8 for deflecting the arms or legs of the staple when the latter is driven in the manner hereinafter appearing. The anvil is formed with a rivet hele 7d aligned with the rivet hole i5 to receive a rivet which secures the anvil to the anvil arm.

Said leaf spring is formed adjacent its rear end with a rivet hole registering with the rivet hole The leaf spring is attached to the bottoni wall Si by means of rivet 553 passing through the registering opening '54. The bar 84 is thus located below .the-.leaf spring 8f! ,and serves-as aspaeerto spaceftheside walls-5 of :the main framefand also'asa tie rod to prevent :spreading .of the side walls of the .main iframe.
The handle `also .be .made .as `a stamping and :is of Ushaped transverse crossll-section. Removably mounted within the `main 'frame and locked therein ina ymanner hereinafter appearing, Vis a staple magazine IEE. Said staple magasine comprises a staple case and rail assembly E26, anda lnose piece 12'@ #attached to the forward end of the case and 'rail assembly. The case andrail 4assembly Acomprises a case :|28 having a bottom wall 129, the lower surface of which is Ain the plane of the edges 31 (Fig. 12). Extending upwardly from the bottom wall 29 are `parallel side walls 130. The bottom wall 29 rests on the lower ribs 59 `(Fig. l), which serve as a guide and support therefor. Said bottom wall is furthermore formed with a pair of upwardly depressed bosses i552 fon ed with rivet openings for the purpose hereinafter appearing.
Said -bottom wall lextends from a point aligned with edges 43 of the side walls 25 back beyond the curved edges 28 of said rside walls. Extending inwardly from the upper ends of the side walls i3@ are elongated ilanges `|33 (Figs. 6 and 8) adapted to contact the undersides of the ribs '58 (Fig. 5.). Thus, the ribs 5t v(Fig. 3) serve both as a :guide and support for the staple magazine. Attached to the case |28 is an inverted U- shaped rail member 14|. The rail member 4| comprises a top wall |42, parallel to and spaced below the anges |33 by somewhat more than the thickness or diameter of the staples to be used. Extending downwardly from the top wall |42 are parallel side walls |43, the lower edges of which contact the upper surface of bottom wall |29 of the magazine |25. The side walls |43 are spaced from the side walls |30, likewise by a distance somewhat greater than the diameter of the staples to be used.
The top wall |42 may be formed with punched out depressed tongues |45 riveted to the bosses |32 by rivets |45. The front end of the rail member I4! is flush with the front end of the case member |28, but extends rearwardly beyond the rear end of said case member. It will now be understood that staples |50 may ride on the rail 14| and between the rail and the case |28. The side walls of the rail member are formed at their lower edges with notches 5| disposed rearwardly of the case |28 for the purpose hereinafter explained.
The nose member |21 (Figs. 2 and 3) comprises a front wall |55 formed with a central longitudinal slot |55. The lower edge of the nose piece is flush with the undersurface bottom wall |29. I'he upper edge of the front wall contacts the underside of the top wall 26 of the main frame.`
Extending rearwardly from the sides of the front wall are rearwardly stepped shoulders |51 contacting the flanges |40 of the case member |28, forming a space or slot |58 between said flanges and the front wall |55 for reception of a driving blade 20, as will appear hereinafter.
The upper ends of the shoulders |51 (Figs. l and 2) contact the edges 43 of the side walls of the main frame. Extending rearwardly from said shoulders are side walls i8! contacting the outer surfaces of the side walls |35 of the case member |23. The side walls |6| may be spot welded or otherwise attached to said side walls |33 for fixing the nose piece to the case member. The side walls |5| are formed with projections |53 received in the notches 4| in the front edges 40 of the side walls 25 of the main frame. The rear edges of the side walls HSI Contact the front edges 40 of the side walls of the main frame, whereas, the upper edges of said side Walls |8| contact the underedges 52 of the side walls of the main frame. Thus, the outer surfaces of the nose piece are flush with the outer surfaces of the side walls of the ccmmon frame. Means is provided to lock the staple magazine in place within the main frame. To this end, there is provided a lock member (Figs. 2 and 3) having a bottom wall |1I which lits into the slot |29a of the bottom wall |29 of the magazine case. Extending upwardly from the bottom wall |1|, as shown in Fig 7, are side walls |12 which t within the slots 33 in the side walls of the frame. Extending upwardly from the side walls |12 are shoulders |13, from which there extends upwardly, arms |14. Arms |14 are formed with detents which may snap into the detents 55 in the side walls 25 of the main frame. The side walls |14 are furthermore formed with inwardly punched prongs |16 which may snap into the openings 5| of the side walls 25. The lock member |10, thus prevents side shifting of the case lengthwise and serves to retain the staple magazine in operative position.
Mounted on the case and rail assembly is a staple strip pusher |833. rihe same comprises a pusher rod |8| attached at its rear end to a pusher rod lock |82 and carrying a pusher member |83 adapted to engage the staple strip. The rod |8| may be of round stock and is riveted at its rear end to Wall |85 of the pusher rod lock |82. Said lock |82 comprises a pair of similar symmetrically disposed side walls |85 (Fig. 10) interconnected by said wall |35. The walls |216 are formed at their forward ends with horizontally disposed slots |81 receiving the rear end of Portions of the walls |85 are received between the side walls |43 of the rail member |4|. Said side walls |83 are formed with outwardly punched prongs |38 which are adapted to snap into the notches |E| in the side walls of the rail member. The prongs |88 are formed by slitting the side walls |55 along top and bottom parallel lines and at a line interconnecting the rear ends of said parallel lines, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing. The walls |83 tend to move away from each other so that the prongs |83 will enter the prongs or notches |5| to lock member |82 to the rail. When it is desired to release the pusher rod lock |82 from the rails, the walls |85 are pressed toward each other to disengage the prongs from the notches |5|.
Means is provided to limit inward movement of the walls |83 toward each other. To this end, each of said walls is cut along parallel top and bottom lines to form therebetween a strap |96 which is depressed inwardly. When the walls |83 are pushed together, the straps |95 will contact each other to limit the inward movement of said walls. The rod |8| is riveted to the wall as at |3I, as shown in Fig. 3 or" the drawing. On the rod |8| is a coil compression spring |53 interposed between the staple strip engaging member |83 and said wall |85 of member |32. Member |83 comprises a slider which slides on the top wall |42 er" the rail member |4|. The slider has a bottom wall |95 and a plurality of upstanding parallel walls |55, through which the rod passes. The spring |53 pushes against the slider |33, which in turn pushes the staple strip to the right, so that the foremost staple in the strip will be located below the blade 20.
When the handle I4 is initially squeezed, it lifts pin |5 to swing anvil arm l2 about pivot pin i3 from the position shown in Fig. 3 to the position shown in Fig. l. When the pin l reaches the upper end of the slot I6, further squeezing of the handle will cause rotation of the handle in a clockwise direction about the pivot pin i5, thereby causing the link 23 to be pulled downwardly for rotating the drive arm l1 in a clockwise direction about the pivot pin lil, thereby causirfg the driver blade 2Q to move downwardly and expel the foremost staple in the staple magazine and press the same against the anvil 2i. As the link is pulled down, the leaf spring 3i is tensioned thereby causing the parts to assume their normal position when the pressure is relieved, from the handle. The staples may be loaded from the rear by pressing the walls it of the rod lock |82 together and then pulling rearwardly to remove the pusher rod. The sta ple magazine may then be removed if desired by removing the lock H3, in which event the staple magazine may be pulled forwardly from the main frame.
Tit will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawings is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
l. A stapler comprisinga main frame formed with a slot, an anvil arm pivoted to the main frame, a pin on the anvil arm passing through said slot, a handle pivoted to said pin, a driver arm pivoted to the main frame, 'a link interconnecting the handle with the driver arm, a staple magazine within the main frame, and a driver blade slidably mounted at the forward end of the staple magazine and engaging said driver arm.
2. A hand stapler comprising a main frame, an anvil arm pivoted adjacent its rear end to said main frame, an anvil on the front end of said anvil arm, said main frame being formed with a slot spaced forwardly of the pivotal connection between the main frame and the anvil arm, a pin on said anvil arm passing through said slot, said slot permitting limited pivotal movement of said anvil arm relative to said main frame, a handle pivoted by means of said pin for rotation about the axis of said pinrelative to said anvil arm, a driver arm pivoted adjacent its rear end to the main frame, and a link interconnecting the driver arm with the handle, the pivotal connection between the link and the driver arm being forwardly of the pivotal connection between the driver arm and the frame, and the pivotal ccnnection between the link and the handle being disposed forwardly of the pin on which the handle is pivoted to the anvil arm, a staple magazine mounted on the main frame and disposed between the anvil arm and the driver arm, and a driver blade at the forward end of the driver arm.
3. A hand stapler comprising a main frame, an anvil arm pivoted adjacent its rear end to said main frame, an anvil on the front end of said anvil arm` said main frame being formed with a slot spacgd forwardly of the pivotal connection between the main frame and the anvil arm, a pin on said anvil arm passing through said slot said slot permitting limited pivotal movement of said anvil arm relative to said main frame, a handle pivoted by means of said pin for rotation about the axis of said pin relative to said anvil arm, a driver arm pivoted adjacent its rear end to the main frame, and a link interconnecting the driver arm with the handle, the pivotal connection between the link and the driver arm ybeing forwardly of the pivotal connection between the driver arm and the frame, and the pivotal connection between the link and the handle being disposed forwardly of the pin on which the handle is pivoted to the anvil arm, a stap-le magazine mounted on the main frame and disposed between the anvil arin and the driver arm, and a driver blade at the forward end of the driver arm, said main frame comprisinga pair of parallel side walls interconnected by a top wall, one end of said anvil arm being disposed between said side walls, said handle comprising parallel side wa-lls interconnected by a bottom wall, and the side walls of said main "rame being disposed between the side walls of said handle.

A stapler comprising a main frame formed with a slot, an anvil arm pivoted to the 'lain frame, a pin on the anvil arm passing through said slot, a handle pivoted to said pin, a driver arm pivoted to the main frame, a link interconnesting the handle with the driver arm, a staple magazine within the main frame, a driver Iblade at the forward end of the staple magazine and Y engaging said driver arm, and spring means adapted to be tensioned upon rotating said handle in one direction about the pin on which it is pivoted to the anvil arm for biasing said Vhandle in an opposite direction when said spring is tensioned.
5. A hand stapler com rising a main frame, an anvil arm pivoted adjacent its rear end to said main frame, an anvil on the front end of said anvil arm, said main frame being formed with a slot spaced iorwardly of the pivotal connection between the main frame and the anvil arm, a pin on said anvil arm passing through said slot, said slc-t permitting limited pivotal movement of said anvil arm relative to said main fra-me, a handle pivoted by means or said pin for rotation about the axis of said relative to said anvil arm, a driver arm pivoted adjacent its rear end to the main frame, and a link interconnecting the driver arm with handle, the pivotal. connection between the link and the driver arm being forwardly of the pivotal connection between the driver arm and the frame, and the pivotal connection between the link and the handle being disposed forwardly cf the pin on which the handle is pivoted to the anvil arm, a. staple magazine mounted on the main frame and disposed between the anvil arm the driver arm, and a driver blade at the forward end of driver arm, a leaf spring attached to the underside of the anvil arm and the free end of said leaf spring engaging the Aunderside of the pivot by which the link is connected to the handle.

A hand stapler comprising a main frame having parallel side walls interconnected by a top wall, an anvil arm received between said side walls and pivoted adjacent its rear end to said side walls, an anvil on the forward end of theV anvil armv the side walls oi said main frame being formed with aligned slots disposed forwardly oi the pivotal connection between the anvil arm and the mainframe, a pin extending through said anvil arm and engaging within said slots and eX- tending therebeyond, a handle having parallel side walls interconnected by a bottm wall, the side walls of said main frame being received between the side walls of said handle, the pin on the anvil arm which passes through said slots engaging in bearing openings in the side walls of said handle, a pivot pin on the portion of the handle disposed forwardly of said slots, a driver arm disposed between the side walls of said main frame and above the anvil arm, and pivoted adjacent its rear end to the side walls of said main frame, a pivot pin carried .by an intermediate portion of the driver arm, a link interconnecting the pivot pin on the intermediate portion of the driver arm with the last mentioned pivot pin on the handle, a staple magazine mounted between the side walls of said main frame, and above the anvil arm, a driving blade at the forward end of the driver arm. e

A hand stapler comprising a main frame having parallel side walls interconnected by a top wall, an anvil arm received between said side walls and pivoted adjacent its rear end to said side walls, an anvil on the forward end of the anvil arm, the side walls of said main frame being formed with aligned slots disposed forwardly of the pivotal connection between the anvil arm and the main frame, a pin extending through said anvil arm and engaging within said slots and extending therebeyond, a handle having parallel side walls interconnected by a bottom wall, the side walls of said main frame being received between the side walls of said handle, the pin on the anvil arm which passes through said slots engaging in bearing openings in the side walls of said handle, a pivot pin on the portion of the handle disposed forwardly of said slots, a driver arm disposed between the side walls of said main frame and abovethe anvil arm, and pivoted adjacent its rear end to the side walls of said main frame, a pivot pin carried by an intermediate portion of the driver arm, a link interconnecting the pivot pin on the intermediate portion of the driver arm with the last mentioned pivot pin on the handle, a -staple magazine mounted between the side walls of said main frame, and above the anvil arm, a driving blade at the forward end of the driver arm, the
last mentioned pivot pin on the handle being located beneath the driver arm, and a leaf spring attached at its rear end to the underside of the anvil arm, and the free end of said leaf spring engaging the underside of the last mentioned pivot pin on the handle. Y

A hand stapler comprising a main frame having parallel side walls interconnected by a top wall, an anvil arm received between said side walls and pivoted adjacent its rear end to said side walls, an anvil on the forward end of the anvil arm, the side walls of said main frame being formed with aligned slots disposed forwardly of the pivotal connection between the anvil arm and the main frame, a pin extending through said anvil arm and engaging within said slots and extending therebeyond, a handle having parallel side walls interconnected by a bottom wall, the side walls of said main frame being received between the side walls of said handle, the pin on the anvil arm which passes through said slots engaging in bearing openings in the side walls of said handle, a pivot pin on the portion of the handle disposed forwardly of said slots, a driver arm disposed between the side walls of said main frame and above the anvil arm, and pivoted adjacent its rear end to the side walls of said main frame, a pivot pin carried by an intermediate portion of the driver arm, a link interconnecting the pivot pin on the intermediate portion of the driver arm with the last mentioned pivot pin on the handle, a staple magazine mounted between the side walls of said main frame, and above the anvil arm, a driving blade at the forward end of the driver arm, the last mentioned pivot pin on the handle being located beneath the driver arm, and a leaf spring attached at its rear end to the underside of the anvil arm, and the free end of said leaf spring engaging the underside of the last mentioned pivot on the handle, said staple magazine comprising a case having a bottom wall, the side walls of said main frame hav'-V ing lower edges ilush with the underside of said bottom wall, said side walls of the main frame being formed with aligned notches, the bottom wall of said case being formed with a cut-away registering with said notches in the side walls of said main frame, and a U-shaped magazine lock having a bottom portion received within said cutaway and upwardly extending portions received within said notches of the side walls of said main frame, and portions contacting the outer sides of the side walls of the main frame, and means to interengage said last mentioned portions of said magazine lock with the side walls of said main frame.

A hand stapler comprising a main frame having parallel side walls interconnected by a top wall, an anvil arm received between said side walls and pivoted adjacent its rear end to said side walls, an anvil on the forward end of the anvil arm, the side walls of said main frame being formed with aligned slots disposed forwardly of the pivotal connection between the anvil arm and the main frame, a pin extending through said anvil arm and engaging within said slots and extending therebeyond, a handle having parallel side walls interconnected by a bottom wall, the side walls of said main frame being received between the side walls of said handle, the pin on the anvil arm which passes through said slots engaging in bearing openings in the side walls of said handle, a pivot pin on the portion of the handle disposed forwardly of said slots, a driver arm disposed between the side walls of said main frame and above the anvil arm, and pivoted adjacent its rear end to the side walls of said main frame, a pivot pin carried by an intermediate portion of the driver arm, a link interconnecting the pivot pin on the intermediate portion of the driver arm with the last mentioned pivot pin on the handle, a staple magazine mounted between the side walls of said main frame, and above the anvil arm, a driving blade at the forward end of the driver arm, the
last mentioned pivot pin on the handle being located beneath the driver arm, and a leaf spring attached at its rear end to the underside of the anvil arm, and the free end of said leaf spring engaging the underside of the last mentioned pivot on the handle, said staple magazine comprising a case having a bottom wall, the side walls of said main frame having lower edges hush with the underside of said bottom wall, said side walls o-f the main frame being formed with aligned notches, the bottom wall of said case being formed with a cut-away registering with said notches in the side walls of said main frame, and e a U-shaped magazine lock having a bottom portion received within said cut-away and upwardly extending portions received within said notches of the side walls of said main frame, and portions contacting the outer sides of the side walls of the main frame, and means to interengage said last mentioned portions of said magazine lock' With the sidewalls of said main frame; a:4

A hand stapler comprising a main frame, an anvil arm pivoted adjacent its rear end to said main frame, an anvil on the front end of said anvil arm, said main frame being formed with a slot spaced forwardly of the pivotal connection between the main frame and the anvil arm, a pin on said anvil arm passing through said slot, and permitting limited movement of said anvil arm relative to said main frame, a handle pivoted by means of said pin for rotation about the axis of said pin relative to said anvil arm, a driver arm pivoted adjacent its rear end to the main frame, and a link interconnecting the driver arm with the handle, the pivotal con-- nection between the link and the driver arm being forwardly of the pivotal connection between the driver arm and the frame, and the pivotal connection between the link and the handle being disposed forwardly of the pin on which the handle is pivoted to the anvil arm, a staple magazine mounted on the main frame and disposed be- Cil tween the anvil arm and the driver arm and a driver blade at the forward end of the driver arm, said main frame comprising a pair of parallel side walls interconnected by a top wall, one end of said anvil arm being disposed between said side walls, said handle comprising parallel side walls interconnected by a bottom wall, and the side walls of said main frame being disposed between the side walls of said handle, said staple magazine comprising a case member having a bottom wall, the side walls of said main frame having lower edges ush with the underside of said bottom wall, said side walls of the main frame being formed with aligned notches, the bottom wall of said case being formed with a cut-away register with the notches in said frame side Walls, and a U-shaped magazine lock having a bottom portion received within said cut-away, upwardly extending portions received in the notches of the frame side walls and portions contacting the outer sides of said frame side walls, and means to interengage said last mentioned portions of said magazine lock with the frame side walls.
