The invention relates to a thread. cutting or ripping device or the like, and more especially to such an implement particularly adapted for ripping seams or the like.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character adapted to be worn on the index finger of the user, or any other desired finger so that the thread stitches in a garment can be cut with ease and dispatch thus eliminating necessity of using scissors for this purpose and correspondingly reducing the possibility of damage to the garment.

A further object resides in the provision of such a device particularly adapted for use by garment workers, seamstresses, housewives, or other persons having toaccomplish the work of ripping open seams and other machine stitching or hand work.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which may be conveniently placed on the index finger, so that the threads of a seam can be readily cut with minimum of effort and motion by the user.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a device which is simple, sturdy and durable in construction, thoroughly reliable and eficient in operation, and easily handled, convenient of application and removal, devoid of complicated parts and inexpensive to manufacture.

With these and other objects in view, the in- I vention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses a preferred embodiment of the invention, and de- I fined in the claims hereunto appended.

In the accompanying drawing:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device constructed in accordance with the invention applied to the finger of a user, only a Portion of the hand being shown.

Figure 2 is a top plan view, the finger wearing the device being fragmentarily shown.

Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 looking toward the underside of the device.

Figure 4 is a perspective view on an enlarged scale of the device detached from the hand.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the ripping device con titutin the present invention, comprises a substantially ring-like body I 0 having projecting therefrom at one end of the same spaced substantially parallel webs H and. 12, re.

spectively, which at their outer extremities merge integrally with a cutting blade I3 which has a curvelinear knife cutting edge 14. The blade l3 next to the web i2 is formed with a protruding tip I5, the cutting edge M, as best seen in Figure 4 of the drawing, extending to the extremity thereof.

The ring-like body I0 is provided with a circular depression forming an exterior peripheral cavity l6 adjacent web II, which is adapted to accommodate the thumb A of the hand of a user of the device, when the device is applied to the index finger B for use in ripping thread stitches, (see Figure 1).

The body in has formed therewith and extending reversely to the web I I, an outwardly tapered supporting member l1, extending substantially to the second joint of the finger to provide a bearin against the finger B to enable the device to be properly manipulated for the severing action at the edge [4 of the blade I3 of said device.

It is needless to detail the manner of use of the device constituting the present invention, because unquestionably from the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawing the operation will be clearly apparent. A more extended explanation has therefore been omitted for the sake of brevity.

As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept and since many modifications may be made in the embodiment herein shown and described it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted as merely illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

What is claimed is:

1. A thread ripping device comprising a finger ring, spaced inflexible substantially parallel webs secured to one side of said ring and extending axially of the ring, a curvilinear knife blade secured to the ends of said webs and integral and coplanar therewith, a projection on the side of the ring remote from the webs and aligned with one of said webs, and a pointed tip on said knife blade on the end thereof remote from said projection.

2. A thread ripping device comprising a finger ring, spaced inflexible substantially parallel webs secured to one side of said ring and extending axially of the ring, a curvilinear knife blade secured to the ends of said webs and integral and coplanar therewith, a projection on the side of the ring remote from the webs and aligned with one of said webs, a pointed tip on said kinfe blade on the end thereof remote from said projection, sa d n having a circular depression forming 3 an exterior peripheral cavity adapted to accommodate a portion of the thumb of said wearer, said one of said webs and said depression being substantially colinear.
