Description

E. F. FELDHEIM LEVEL HOLDER Nov. 28, 1950 Filed Sept. 1, 1949 Fig.
E inar F. F e/d/reim .INVENTOR.
Patented Nov. 28, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to a device for holding a spirit level in position for ready access to masons, tile setters and the like.
More particularly, the invention consists of a spirit level holder adapted for engagement with or attachment to a mortar board or tub so as to removably hold the spirit level in a vertical position where it is conveniently accessible to masons or the like working on a construction job.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of the above kind which is simple in construction, easy to use, and efiicient for the intended purpose.
The nature of the present invention will be apparent from the following description when considered with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view, partly in section, showing the present level holder in use in connection with a mortar board.
Figure 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the level holder.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary horizontal section taken on the line 33 of Figure 1 Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 1 showing the level holder in use in connection with a mortar tub.
Referring in detail to the drawing, 5 indicates an upright or standard having a dual clamp 6 at one end adapted to be selectively engaged over the edge of a mortar board I or a mortar tub 8 to sustain said upright in a vertical position at one side of said board or said tub, and provided at its other end with a laterally projecting vertical sleeve 9 of rectangular form adapted to removably receive a spirit level It to hold the latter in a vertical position beside the board or the tub while resting at its lower end on the surface ll upon which the board or the tub is supported.
As shown, the dual clamp 8 includes a jaw l2 consisting of a lateral extension on one end of upright 5, and an angular member I3 adjustable longitudinally of and secured to the upright 5 adjacent the jaw l2 by means of a nutted clamping bolt l4 passing through an opening of the arm l5 of the member I3 and an elongated slot [6 of upright 5. The arm I5 is curved from the upright 5 to receive the edge of the mortar tub between the same and said upright when the device is disposed with the sleeve 9 at the bottom as shown in Figure 4, and the arm [1 of member l3 forming a jaw arranged to coact with the jaw [2 to clamp the edge of the mortar board therebetween when the device is disposed with the sleeve 9 at the top as shown in Figure 1. In either case, the upright 5 is sustained in a vertical position so that the level is similarly held when placed in the sleeve 9 and rested upon the surface I II By adjusting member l3 relative to upright 5, jaw I? may be moved toward or away from jaw [2, according to the thickness of the mortar board.
It will be seen that I have provided an efficient device for the intended purpose, which is simple in construction and easy to use.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A level holder comprising an upright having a clamp at one end adapted to engage the edge of a mortar receiver to sustain said upright in a vertical position, a laterally projecting vertical rectangular sleeve rigid with the other end of said upright and adapted to receive a spirit level to sustain it in a vertical position while resting on the surface upon which the mortar receiver is supported, said clamp including a fixed jaw consisting of a lateral extension on one end oi the upright, and an angular member having a first arm secured to and adjustable longitudinally of said upright and a second arm providing a lateral adjustable jaw opposed to the firstnamed jaw to clamp over the edge of a mortar recevier in the form of a mortar board.
2. A level holder comprising an upright having a clamp at one end adapted to engage the edge of a mortar receiver to sustain said upright in a Vertical position, a laterally projecting vertical rectangular sleeve rigid with the other end of said upright and adapted to receive a spirit level to sustain it in a vertical position while resting on the surface upon which the mortar receiver is supported, said clamp including a curved arm secured to the upright and extended therefrom toward said sleeve, whereby to engage over the edge of a mortar receiver in the form of a mortar tub.
