Description

DETACHABLE COAT HANGER COVER Filed March 9, 1949 Gltornea Patented Oct. 10, 1950 UNITED STATES FATENT ()FFlCE DETAOHABLE COAT HANGER COVER Marie Till Van Derbeck, El Monte, Calif.
Application March 9, 1949, Serial No. 80,415
2 Claims.
This invention is a detachable, washable, fabric sheath for conventional coat hangers.
It has been proposed to encase common wooden-arm coat hangers with a jacket or wrapper fixed thereon. This is objectionable for the reason that the jacket becomes soiled in time and can not be removed, without injury, for washin or cleaning. Further, if the slender wooden arm breaks, as often happens, the jacket goes into discard with the broken hanger.
An intent of the invention is to provide a simple, low-cost, practical, durable and attractive jack structure which can be Very easily mounted on a given hanger and as easily and quickly removed therefrom, so that the jacket, hereafter called the sheath, can be washed or cleaned at desired times and then reapplied to the hanger arm.
A purpose of the invention is to provide in one adaptation a sheath comprising a pair of substantially duplicate or half sheaths capable of coaptation on a given hanger to completely encase it, except for the hook.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a hanger sheath the structure including relative, constantly united parts which are relatively openable one from the other for application to a given coat hanger.
The invention resides in certain advancements in this art as set'forth in the ensuing disclosure and having, with the above, additional objects and advantages as hereinafter developed, and whose constructions, combinations and details of means and the manner of operation and coaptation will be made manifest in the following description of the herewith illustrative embodiments; it being understood that modifications, variations, adaptations and equivalents may be resorted to Within the scope, spirit andprinciples of the invention as it is claimed in conclusion hereof.
Figure 1 is a perspective of a form of the invention embodying a pair of connective, end half sheaths, as applied to a hanger.
Figure 2 is a perspective of a unitary form of the sheath.
The conventional coat hanger consists of a shoulder-curvature, slight wooden arm A from the top of which projects a wire hook H.
The sheath of Fig. 1 consists of a separable pair of half-length sleeve-like sections 2 and 3 each closed at its outer end. The inner end of the section 2 has a cuff-like portion 20 having an aflixed set of socket or snap fasteners 4.
The section 3 has at its open inner end a cuff 3c split at its top 315 so as to embrace the near portion of the hook H. The cuff 30 preferably consists of a conventional strip of cloth having an afiixed series of snap fastener parts M for coaptation with the parts 4 in the cuff of the section 2; thus enabling the quick but secure connection of the two sheath sections 2 and 3 in encasing position on the hanger. By simply disconnecting the cufi fasteners one from the other at the hanger hook, the two sheath sections can be instantly removed for cleansing and later applied at will to a complementary hanger.
The detachable principle of such a sheath type of hanger cover is shown in Fig. 2 as embodied in a unitary structure of sheath; that is no parts are totally separable one from. the other as in Fig. 1. In this embodiment the sheath comprises a full length back strip 5 along the top of which is a pair of downwardly foldable sheath flaps 6 and I whose remote ends are attached to the respective ends of the back strip 5 to close the ends at 8.
The inner ends of the flaps 6 and 1 preferably overlap in a closed position at the location of the hanger hook H. These lapping ends may be secured together in any suitable manner as by snap fasteners 9, and the bottom edges of the back and the closed flaps may be secured in desired manner, as by snap fasteners Ill, or by zippers if preferred.
- What is claimed is:
1. A washable coat hanger cover comprising a sheathing adapted to be easily and quickly applied to or removed from a given hanger having a top hook and including fabric portions to encase the arms of the hanger, said portions hav ing contiguous ends which overlap each other from top to bottom of the hanger to eliminate butting end joint at the edges of said ends, the upper margins of the overlapped ends being recessed for reception of the shank of the said hook, and fastening means securing the lapped ends in hanger covering position.
2. The cover of claim 1; the sheathing bein in the form of a pair of wholly separable sections whose inner or meeting ends have mutually telescopic cuffs.
