1 This invention relates to new and useful'improvements in bath cloths and theprimary object of the present invention is to provide a wash cloth having a-pocket associatedtherewith for receiving and holding "a cleansing age'nt such as soap, flakes or the like, and whichpocket being of porous material to permit the soap to be contacted by a fluid such as water in order to 'form a soapysolution.

Another object 'of the present invention is to provide a wash cloth having a pocket and embody-ing novel and improved means for retaining a cleansing agent in the pocket.

"A further-object of the present invention is to provide a-wash cloth having a soap receiving pocket and ineans'as'sociated with the pocket for retaining large as 'well as relatively small particles of a'soli'd cleansing agent'in the pocket.

Yet another feature of the present-invention is the provision of a "wash cloth having 'a soap receiving pocket applied thereto and 's'o construct'ed as to permit the cloth to be wrung for the purposes of drying while a cleansing agent is disposed in the said pocket.

A still further aim of the present invention is to provide a wash cloth that is simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use, neat and attractive *in appearance, small and compact in structure, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted-for the purposesfforwhich the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings form- 5 ing part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a wash cloth constructed in accordance with the present invention;

Figure 2 is a group perspective view showing the pocket forming member removed from the wash cloth;

Figure 3 is a fragmentary vertical sectional View taken substantially on the plane of section line 3--3 of Figure 1, and showing a cake of soap disposed in the pocket; and

Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3 and showing the manner in which the pocket is opened for removing or replacing soap, or such other solid cleansing agent, therein.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral I0 represents a bath or 2 wash-cloth of any suitable soft, pliable and absorbent material and-which may be 'of any-suitable shape'although asubstanti'ally square shape has been illustrated.

To one face of the wash "cloth ii], there is secured a substantially rectangular pocket forming member [2, of soft, 'porous or-pervious material, such as cloth netting, that isa-pplied to the-cloth 'Hl'by stitching or the like M on three edges of the member :2 to leave one *edge of the pocket forming me'mber, for example edge [6, free for access to the inside of the pocket I! formed between theqnember l2-and the cloth l0.

Means is provided for retaining soap, or such other'solid cleansing agent, in'the pocket H, and this means'consists of a plurality'of spaced parallel, elongated, flexible straps I8 having one of their ends, for example ends'2fl,doubled upon themselves and secured to the free edge [6 of the p'ocketforming member t2. by stitching or the like 22. The free ends 24 of these straps T8 are doubled upon themselves and are fixed between the pocketforming member l2 and cloth 'lfl by the previously'referred to stitching. M during'the assembly of the entire article 26.

Although the straps 18 would be suflicient in .themselvesfor retaining the solid cleansing .agent,

such as 28, in the pocket'l 7, it is desirable to asso- 'ciate a meansiwith the straps l8 so that asithe free edge .1 6 of the --pocketif.ormingmember 1-2 is pulled outwardly from the cloth. to, pleats 30 will be provided in thecloth l i] permitting .an enlarged opening between the edge I6 and cloth I0. This latest means comprises a plurality of spaced parallel, elongated strips 32 having their ends doubled upon themselves and secured to the cloth iii by stitching or the like 34.

Spaced rows of stitching 36 also secures the strips 32 to the cloth ill, in such a manner as to provide a plurality of guide loops 38 that slidably receive the straps [8.

In practical use of the present invention, as the free edge I6 is pulled outwardly from the cloth it, as shown in Figure 3 to that position illustrated in Figure 4, portions of the straps l8 will also be pull d outwardly, bunching the strips 32 or forcing the strips 32 toward each other, and causing loops or pleats 39 between adjacent strips 32. By then spreading a pair of adjacent straps l8, soap or the like may be conveniently inserted into the pocket.

Obviously, the pocket forming member 12 and its associated elements, namely, the straps I8 and strips 32, may be detachably secured to the cloth I 0 through the medium of snap fasteners in such an instance when the present invention is to be used in conjunction with chamois or other such relatively expensive cleansing material. When used in this capacity, the snap fasteners will be so positioned as to prevent the same from engaging the smooth surface of an article that is being cleaned to effect a marring of the same. Since the primary feature of the present invention is to provide a wash cloth or cleaning cloth, the pocket forming member I2 is secured to the cloth ID by stitching or the like and since all of the elements employed are relatively inexpensive the entire cloth can be discarded Without eifecting an appreciable cost. However, it is intended to also associate the pocket forming member, soap retaining means and holding means in conjunction with other articles to function in the intended manner.

In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

l. A wash cloth comprising a sheet of soft, pliable material, a pocket-forming member secured to said sheet of material to form a pocket, said pocket-forming member including a free edge, a plurality of elongated. retainer straps fixed at one of their ends to said sheet of material remote from the free edge of said pocket-forming member and at their remaining ends to the free edge of said pocket-forming member, said straps being positioned within the pocket, and spaced guide members carried by the sheet of material and located within the pocket and between the ends of said straps slidably receiving said straps, said guide members being urged toward each other as the free edge of said pocket-forming member is pulled away from the sheet of material.

2. The combination of claim 1 wherein said last mentioned means includes a plurality of strips secured to said sheet of material by spaced groups of stitching to provide loops slidably receiving said straps.

3. A Wash cloth comprising a sheet of soft, pliable material, a pocket-forming member having upper and lower edges and side edges, means securing the lower edge and side edges of said pocket-forming member to said sheet of material to provide a pocket between the pocket-forming member and the sheet of material, a plurality of spaced parallel elongated retainer straps positioned within the pocket and having upper and lower end portions, the upper end portions of said straps being secured to the upper edge of said pocket-forming member and the lower end portions of said straps being secured to the sheet of material and to the lower edge of said pocketforming member, and upper and lower spaced groups of loops on said sheet of material and located within the pocket, said groups of loops slidably receiving said straps, said upper group of loops and said lower group of loops being urged toward each other as the upper edge of said pocket-forming member is forced away from said sheet of material.

A wash cloth comprising a sheet of flexible material, a pocket-forming member secured in juxtaposition to said sheet of material to form a pocket, said pocket forming member having a free edge that is moved from the sheet of material to permit entrance between the pocket-forming member and the sheet of material, an elongated flexible strap located within the pocket, said strap being secured at one end to the free edge of the pocket-forming member and at its other end to the sheet of material remote from the free edge of said pocket-forming member, and a loop secured to said sheet of material and located between the ends of said strap and within the pocket, said loop and the end of said strap secured to said sheet of material being urged toward each other as the free edge of said pocketforming member is pulled away from the sheet of material.
