It is also the purpose of the invention to provide an arrangement which may readily be at- `tached to existing bed-frames at an insignificant cost,and which is pleasing in appearance applied to either a new or old bed.

It is a further object ofthe invention to prowhen vide a cover holder in the form of a clamp which is conveniently and rapidly shifted between its operative and inoperative position, without possibility of injury to the attendant, the child or to .the bedding, there being no possibillty of tearing .of the latter as is the case when spring clips and clasps are used. 1

The structure in accordance with the invention is characterized by such Simplicity that the same requires no special skill in its manipulation or its application to the bed covers, there 'bein no possibility of tearing the covers or doing any harm to the child or attendant as is likely in the handling of sharp'clips attached to straps on the `bed, which may :become entangled,- disarranged `or shifted from their desired locations.

The'invention proceeds upon the principle of providing a clamping bar on each sideof a bed frame and extending longitudinally thereof, which is of substantial surface area, in order to exert the desired firm and safe 'clamping action without possibility` of tearing of' the bed covers. An arm extends from theclamping bar and is provided with one or more openings adjacent the free end thereof in sliding engagement with a guide rod which is attached to the `-inner side of the'bed frame. The arm is provided withpopenings therein of slightly larger cross-sectional area than the 'guide `rod so that the'same may slide' easily therealong; However, when the clampingbar is pressed into engagement with the covers on the bed, the resilient force of the bedding acting upwardly against the clamping bar serves to tilt or cant the clamping bar and arm extending therefrom so that the arm enters ?into a binding engagement with the guide rod to maintain the clamp in tight frictional engagement therewith, which can only bereleased by the attendant when the clamping bar is pressed in a reverse direction, which may be Supplemented by a lifting of the free end of the arm which is in` binding engagement with the guide rod, thereby again permitting the free movement of the clamp along the guide rod. The tugging .or pulling 'of the bed cover bythe child in bed cannot release the clamp, for the force exerted thereby is in a direction to increase the gripping ,action of the arm against the guide rod, However, the release can be quickly and easily effected by the attendant in the manner described .above. i

Other objects and purposes will appear from the detailed description of the invention following hereinafter, taken in conjunction with the ,accompanying drawing, wherein Fig. 1 is a plan View of a child's bed showing the application thereto of the cover holders in accordance with the present invention;

As shown in Fig. 1, the cover holder iii in ac- .cordance with the present invention is adapted :to be placed on each side ,of the bed rame i, a ;little more than a foot from the head of the bed, iin order to clamp the bed covers 2 in place fol- :lowing the tucking in of a child or infant thereunder, so .that the same cannot be disturbed by the tossing or other activity of the child. While ltwo clamps as shown in Fig. 1 are adequate in most instances in order to clamp the cover adjacent the free edges thereof, it is readily under- (SOOd that additional clamps may be provided at other points of the bed frame, and in those instances where it is desired to clainp bed-clothes f at the foot 8 of the bed, such may be provided -at that portion of the bed frame.
