To release the lead 9 from the clamp and to bring it back into the chamber I'I, the pencil is turned upside down. The tip .of. the. pencil is uppermost. By pr'ess'ingthe knob I3 the jawsof the clamp give the lead `9 freedom. The released lead falls by its own weight through the tube 6 downwardly on to the slantingface I and enters l a chamber I'I. By pressing onthe knob I3 the cup 8 had been turned in advance by the stud 'I in such a manner that the opening I6 coincides with thev opening at the upper open end of tube.
