A cover 41 for the magnet comprising integral side, top and front walls 49, 58, the lower-edge of the front wall 5| having small end notches 52, and therebetweena large middle notch '53 registering with said round opening 35. Clamping screws 54 in the downturnedfla-nges arereceived insaid small notches 52 and serve for clamping the cover 41 in place.
An oscillatory shaft 56 .mounted across the press over the second cylinder carries a :pair of upwardly pointing long and short lever arms .51, 58. A rocker arm 59 fast on said ,rockshaft 45 of the feedercut-oii' mechanism is connected by a link 50 to lever arm 51. Said switch 5.5 is in such a position under the sheets that in. normal operation a sheet .is over the switch .to depress the finger l5 and close the switch and energize the magnet and retract .the extension bolt 45 .at :the time that the plunger rod, BI is normally projected across the-path of thebolt; whereby :if a sheet Zil-should fail, to be .fed ,or should get wrapped around :a cylinder vpr 4 should for that or any other reason fail to be on the tapes l4 over the switch 56 when the plunger rod BI is about to be projected across the path of the bolt, the finger I5 will be raised, the switch opened, the magnet deenergized, the bolt 45 dropped and the plunger 6!, the rock shaft 46 and the feeding mechanism stopped, thus to prevent waste of paper or injury to the press.
The operation will be easily understood from thee-foregoing. The press isioperated'zin the ordinary way, the bolt 45 being held retracted by closing a starting switch 16 until a sheet is over the switch 65, closing the switch 66 and holding ethe bolt -45--retracted. Then the switch 15 is opened and the machine is continued in operation inthe ordinary way; but if for many reason asheet 20. should not appear over the switch, the switch will open and the feeding mechanism stopguntil the operation is corrected.
I claim as my invention:

Sfr-An attachment-for use'on a printing; press having a printing cylinder-i "conveyor means havmg t'courses 'receivin'g" printed sheets fromthe cylinder; a mechanism for feeding sheets to the cylinder;i'includin'gr a rockishaft, and means for stopping the mechanisms when the rock shaft: is stopped;-" said: a.ttahr'n'ent'' comprising in com-- bination a magnet support; an electro-magnet on said support; a bolt slidably guided in said magnet and adapted when the magnet is energized to be withdrawn toward the magnet; a plunger rod slidably reciprocatorily guided transverse to said bolt when retracted and connected to the rock shaft and adapted to be stopped by the bolt when not retracted; a switch mounted under the path of the printed sheets and comprising contact and a leaf spring biased from the contact; a source of current; and a feeler connected to the leaf spring and adapted to be pressed beyond the plane of the printed sheets when no sheet is present, thereby to open the switch; said switch being in such a position under the sheets that in normal operation a sheet is over the switch to close the switch and energize the magnet and retract the bolt at the time that the plunger rod is normally projected across the path of the bolt; whereby if a sheet should fail to be fed or get wrapped around a cylinder and should for that or any other reason fail to be on the tapes over the switch when the plunger rod is about to be projected'across the path of the bolt, the finger will be raised, the switch opened, the magnet deenergized, the bolt dropped and the rock shaft stopped; thus to prevent waste of paper and injury to the press.
