(ems-956s) The invention relates to a tracer device for a milling machine or the like, and more specially to an adjustable tracer for a duplicating machine. a I I The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein it is susceptible for accurate adjustment for controlling automatic operation of a profiling machine with a deflection, the device being for continuous 360 degree profiling operations, and eliminates a hydraulic set up for this purpose, yet it may be used in this connection in hydraulic duplicating machines.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the adjustments can be made through the use of spacers or by a micrometer set-up, and relieves excessive grinding of cutting tools employed in milling machines under duplication by pattern or profile operations.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein accuracy of dimensions is assured in reproducing the contour of a previously prepared model of any suitable material; and such device is adjustable for variations of contour, with dispatch and ease, without sacrificing accuracy of dimensions, and is unique in its set-up.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efi'icient in operation, strong, durable, readily and easily adjusted, possessed of few parts, thus economical in repairs, and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which shows the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

Figure 1 is a plan View of the tracer device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 22 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of a spacer employed with the device.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the tracer device constructed in accordance with the inven- 2 .1 tion, comprises a partially fouiid or circular shaped disk-like body or web II]; which is formed Witha tracer rim or flange II, it having. a fiat= tened area I2, while the remainder of its course is circular or round. This body II] has provided therein vacancies I3 and I4, respectively, which assures lightness in weight thereof, without sacrificing strength to withstand its working operation.
At the center of the body ID in parallel relation to the flattened area I2 at its rim I I peripherially thereof is an elongated slot I5 in which is accommodated the attachin hub I6 of a stem I6 which is the carrier for the device, while next to opposite ends of the said slot are bearingsin the form of abutments or lugs I1 and I8, respec tively, these being integral with the web of the body I0 and protrude from one side thereof.
Engaged in the abutment I! is an adjusting screw or stud I9, having the trunnion terminal 26 journalled within such abutment by the socket fitting as at 2|, the screw I9 being located between the abutments I1 and I8, as best seen in Figure 2 of the drawing, so thatthe body can be shifted in reverse directions crosswise of the axis of the stem I6, and to maintain this adjustment with accurac the lower end of the stem I6 is provided with a binding nut 22 and lock' washer 23, respectively. The screw I9 is formed with a socketed wrench collar 24 of usual construction.
In association with the screw I9 is a sleeve-like spacer 25, which has a slotted side 26, so that it can be dropped over the said screw and coacts between the abutment I8 and said stem It, as best seen in Figure 2 of the drawing, the detail form of spacer 25 being clearly illustrated in Figure 3. This spacer 25 can be of any determined size and is used for necessary adjustment of the tracer. The stem I6 is provided With a flat spot 21 which keeps the tracer device in relation to control wheel (not shown).
The sides a and b (Fig. 1) are arcs of the smallest radius used, such as 2 inches, and the are at the top is of the largest radius used, such as 2% inches. The arcs a. and b are of such alength so that they fit smoothly or blend with the are at the top of the device, that is, as shown in Fig. 1. This arrangement enables the tracer to be adjusted within .001 degree anywhere within the range of adjustment. This adjustment can be made by using spacers 25 between the stem I6 and the abutment I8.
What is claimed is:
1. In a tracer for machine tools, the combination which comprises a tracer head including a,
disc like web having openings therethrough with a continuous peripheral flange extended from both sides of the web, said head having a longitudinal axis with the part on one side of the axis describing a semi-circle and having a fiat surface on the other side parallel to the axis and positioned at a distance from the axis less than the radius of the said semi-circular side and with the ends of the said flat side merging with the ends of the semi-circular-side'said web having an elon gated slot positioned on the said axis and with lugs positioned at the ends of the slots and extended from one side of the web, one of said lugs having a socket in the inner face thereof a stem positioned perpendicular to the web and having a hub with a transversely disposedthreaded opening therethrough positioned in the said slot, a threaded stud having a collar with wrench sockets therein positioned with one end threaded in the said threaded opening of the hub and with the opposite endin the said socket in the innerface .of the lug at one end of the slot, and means clamping the saidstern-through thehub thereof iinithe said web.

Inga tracer for machine tools, the combination which comprises a tracer head-including a iiiscJi-ke Web having openings therethrough with a continuous peripheral flange extended ,from both sides of the web, said head having allongitudinal axis with the part on one'side of'theaxis describing a semi-circle and, having a flat surface smthe other side parallel :to the axis and "positioned ata distance fromzthe axisless than the radius of the said semi-circular side and with the tends of the said flat sidezmerging with'the ends of thezsemi circular side, said webhaving an elongated slot positioned on the saidvaxis and with lugs positioned at the ends:of thegslots andex- @tended from one sideof the web, one of saidlugs ihavinga socket in the innerface thereof, astem .;.positioned perpendicular to the weband having a .hub with a transversely disposed threaded open- L-ing therethrough positioned in the said slot, a threaded stud having a collar "with wrench sockets itherein positioned with one end threaded in the I said threaded opening of the hub :and withzthe z-opposite-endin the said socket in the inner face -.of:-the lug-sat one end of the slot, means clamping the said stem through the hub thereof in the said web, and a U-shaped spacer on the stud positioned between the hub of the stem and the lug at one end of the slot against which the stem is clamped by the stud.
3. In a tracer for machine tools, the combination which comprises a tracer head including a disc like web having openings therethrough with a continuous peripheral flange extended from lbOth sides 10f the r-web,,=;saidahead shaming longitudinalaxis with-the par-t on one-side of'the axis describing a semi-circle and having a fiat surface on the other side parallel to the axis and positioned at adistance from the axis less than the radius of the said semi-circular side and with the ends-ofthe-said-fiat side merging with the ends of the.semiecircular, side, said web having an elongated slot positioned on the said axis and with lugs positioned at the ends of the slots and extended from one side of ;the web, one of said lugs .havingi-ai cke in he-i nerface thereof, astem positionedperpendicular to :theweb and'havin 1a hub with-a transversely disposed athreaded opening therethrough positioned in the said ;sl ot, -a. threaded stud= havingacollar with wrench sockets therein positioned with one end threaded in the said threaded opening of the hub and :with the opposite end in the saidsocketinthe inner face of theluga-t one end of the ,slot saidstemphaving a threadedeshank eextended from the-end of the hub and positioned inthe slot of the web,and:a nut (with a lock vwasher positioned -on .;the said threaded shank for clamping the stem imadjuste d positions in the weboi the tracer.
