WITNESSES TENS. Pholowwlnpm Wilmington n UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES VONDERLINDEN, OF BHINEBEGK, NEW YORK.
BARREL-CLEANER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 251,323, dated December 20, 18 81,
Application filed June 16, 1881. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES VONDERLIN- DEN, of Rhinebeck, in the county of Dutchess and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Device for Cleaning Barrels, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to facilitate cleaning the inside of barrels and casks without removing the heads of the same.
The invention consists in a series of metal- ,lic balls or blocks provided with a series of projecting brushes, which balls are connected by pieces of chain'or are mounted on a rope, so that they can be passed into a barrel through the"bung-hole,.and can be moved about in the barrel to scour the sides of the same, water having been previously poured into the barrel or cask.
In the accompanying drawing a perspective view of my improved device for cleaning barrels and casks is shown.
The metal balls or blocks A A are provided with a series of projecting brushes, BB, made of bristles or wire, and a series of theseballs are connected by chain-links O G; or the balls are attached at certain distances from each other to a rope or equivalent passing through them. A rod, D, is attached to one end of the chain of balls, and a rope or equivalent, E, is attached to this rod. The chain of balls may cause the balls to tumble about in the barrel and rub against the inner sides.
The device is to be used for cleaning casks, barrels, tubs, vats, carboys, large bottles, 850. Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A device for cleaning casks and barrels, made substantially as herein shown and described, and consisting of a series of balls provided with projectingbrushes and flexibly con-- nected with each other, as set forth.
2. In a device for cleaning casks and barrels, the combination, with a series of flexiblyconnected balls, A, provided with brushes B B, of the rod D and the rope or equivalent E, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
CHARLES VONDERLINDE N.
