Theinvention'is-clearly 'illustrated m the draw ing accompanying this specification'in which:-
Fig. 1: a side: elevation of a corner truing and leveling tool, embodying a simple form of the present invention; P1
Fig 2 is a. front elevationof. the tool seenin Fig; I;
Fig. :3 is an end view thereof;
Fig. 4 isanend view of a slightly modified format the tool, and 1 Fig 5 is a perspective view'o iaa? clip' fior holdinga spirit level.
Referring. to saidv drawing%;..and-ifirst 1 to 3 inclusive, the reference characters ID, ID, designate two similar gage members, desirably formed of elongated strips of sheet metal bent up to provide two parallel spaced webs II, from which project oppositely directed aligned flanges I2. The webs II are also bentup to form oppositely directed webs [3, which terminate in parallel flanges M. The flanges l2 and webs l3, extend at an angle of 90 degrees to the webs II, and the flanges M extend at an angle of 90 degrees to the webs I3. The corners 9, formed by the webs H, l3, cooperate with the edges 8, of the flanges M, to true up the adjacent sides of corner bricks of chimneys structures and timbers. v
The widths of thewebs f3" and flanges 1'4; are so 'proportioned that-1 when corners 9 anwtlie edges-liof the flanges M} areplacedagainstthe hriclis'or timberat a corner of a chimney 'or'surfaceof other structure, withthe' cornenlineof the chimneys midway between the corners- 9' of the tool; the usercan trueup the corner" and observe with; certainty *whethentlie corner is true'; and whether the faces ofth'e structure adjacent thereto extend at the proper angle ofinclirratiorr.
' The" flanges-- l2; and" webs it, provide a 'hand holding surface or as handle by" which the tool is nranipulatedi The-ihandle' portion may" be sldghtlir' shorter than the remainder of the" tool for inspe'ction of-"corners:

The flanges l2, and webs II, are notched out as at 2|, to receive another adjustable spirit level 22, which is also held in place -by a U-shaped clip 23, similar to the clip l8, permanently but adjustably held in place parallel with the length of the tool by a screw 23a.
In use, after a course of bricks has been laid in mortar, the tool may be used as a horizontal level to determine if the bricks are laid level. The spirit level I! and clip [8 are adjusted to the required angle of inclination to give the desired slope to the walls or surface of the chimney or orb'uiidings; and other? other structure. At the corners of the chimney, or other structure, the corners 9, and the edges 8, of the tool are placed against the corner surface of a few courses of the corner bricks, with the corners automatically located by the tool exactly midway between the sides of the slot between the webs H. If some of the bricks at the corner are not in true alignment, they may be adjusted manually to bring the sides thereof against the corners" 9 and edges 8, with the corners of the bricks disposed midway in the slot.
In the form of the invention illustrated in Figs." 1 to 3 inclusive, the tool has been designed for truing up square corners, as indicated by the dotted line 24.
on one end of the handle, and a spirit level secured in said clip and extending along the end of said webs.
3. A corner truing tool comprising a sheet metal frame composed of two aligned spaced webs, the outer edges of which terminate in two spaced parallel flanges adapted to straddle the corner portion of an object with the corner entering the space between the webs, other parallel websi extending "from the-aligned webs at the inner edges*thereof and terminating in aligned flanges, spacers secured between the second i named webs, and a tiltable spirit level secured at i, .one end of the second named webs.
In the form of the invention illustrated in Fig, H
base portion, each having one of their corre- 4, the proportions of the webs [3a and flanges Ila have been varied so as to adapt thetool I012:
truing up the corners of octagonal chimneys or other structures, as indicated by the, dotted line 25. e
With the use of the present tool, the workman can true up a few courses of a corner in oneoperation, thereby saving half the time of truing up the two adjacent corner faces of any structure bytwooperations, as is now required. It is understoodthat in erecting a chimney, or building or structure, after one or more courses of the corner bricks have beenlaid, guide lines may be fastened to the corner bricks to aid the workman in laying the bricks straight between the corner bricks.
It is further to be observed that the webs I3 and flanges i4,-provide'a channel shaped gage for indicating the trueness of corners.
' Having thus described my invention, it is obvious that various immaterial modifications may be made in the same without departing from the spirit of my invention; hence I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact form, construction, arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and described or uses mentioned. v
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1-. A corner truing tool comprising two similar frame members having parallel flanges from which extend aligned webs that terminate inparallel webs, said first mentioned webs and flanges forming -a channel shaped gage, spacers secured between the parallel webs and spacing the frame members apart, and a tiltable spirit level adjustably secured upon one end of the parallel webs and extending along the end thereof.
2; A corner truing tool comprising a frame composed of two similarly shaped pieces, each formed with a web from which extends a flange and another web which terminates in aflange, said webs and said second named flanges providing a channel shaped gage, the first named flanges,'together with the first named we-bs, forming a handle, a tiltable clip adjustably secured 4. In a corner truing tool for masonry, a base portion,a pair of longitudinally extending, oppositely disposed, l -shaped members carried by the sponding legs positioned in substantially a common plane, and the other respective legs extending in the same direction and lying in substantially parallel planes, the opposing longitudinal edges of said first-mentioned legs being spaced from one another to receive the juncture of two intersecting wall surfaces, with said spaced edges and the free edges of the other legs engageable with such surfaces for firmly seating the device thereon, anda spirit level carried by said base portion for indicating the relationship of said L-shaped members to the horizontal.
5, In acorner-truing tool for masonry, a frame comprising two similarly shaped sheet metal pieces having spaced longitudinally extending, opposed base portions, means for securing the latter together, said portions each terminating at one of their. corresponding longitudinal edges in an outwardly extending web, with the respective webs lying substantially in a common plane, each free longitudinal edge of the respective web portions terminating in a flange positioned on the opposite side of such web relative to its respective base portion, the free longitudinal edges of the respective flanges and the junctures of the webs with their respective base portions extending substantially parallel to one another and providing a pairof spaced edges for each base portion, said edges of each pair being engageable with one of a. pair of intersecting-surfaces for seating the device thereon, and a spirit level supported by said base portions for indicating the relationship of said pairs of edges to the horizontal.
