SHAFT-SUPPORT FOR VEHICLES.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 251,247, dated December 20, 1881.
Application filed October 25, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROBERT KIRK, a citizen of the United States, resident of Olarksville, in the county of Clinton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and valuable Improvementin Wagon-ShaftSupports; and I do hereby declare thatthe followingis afull, clear, and exact description ot'rthe construction and operation of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a sectional view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a top view of the bolt with the link partly broken away. Fig. 3 is a front view of the swiveled hook. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the bolt and link.
This invention has relation to means for holding the shafts of buggies and wagons in the raised position when parked or out of use; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the'dash-looard plate carrying a swivel-hook and the'single-tree bolt formed with an eye at the rear end of its head to carry a link, all as hereinafter set forth.
In the annexed drawings, the letter a desi gnates the frame of the dash-board,\vhicl1 may run horizontally or vertically along the middle portion of said board when the hook-plate is to be attached.
b represents thehook-plate,which is designed to be connected to the front of the dash-board by means of short bolts or rivets c, which pass through said plate and through the rear plate, d. To the front plate, b, is pivoted a hook, g, which has a swivel-stem, c, seated in a central bearing, h, in said plate.
The single-tree bolt k is provided with a cross-head, n, on the rear portion or end of which is formed an eye, t, to hold a ring or link, I, which is designed to be connected to the book 9 when it is desired to hold the shafts in the raised position.
As the swiveled book can be turned in any direction, it is apparent that it can be brought into proper position for engagement with the ring, no matter what may be the position of the front plate in which it is seated, and therefore that said plate can be adapted to a horizontal or perpendicular frame-bar. The swivel arrangementalso enables the hook to be turned downward, so that the link can be engaged under it instead of over, if desired.

The shaft-holding device consisting of the plates 1) d, swivel-hook g, the headed bolt 70, having the eye t formed at the rear of its head, and the ring l,substantially as specified.
