TWINE AND THREAD CUTTER. No. 250,696. Patented Dec. 13,1881.
J muuuw IIII L J WITNESSES WM %ZZZZ-,- INVENTOR UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NATHANIEL D. WETMORE, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
TWINE AND THREAD CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 250,696, dated December 13, 1881.
Application filed October 13, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom "it may concern Be it known that I, NATHANIEL D. WET- MORE, of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Twine and Thread Gutters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanyiug drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to cord or thread cutters; and it consists in the peculiar construction of the same, as will be hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
In the drawings,Figure l is a side elevation of my cord or thread cutter. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same. Fig. 3 is a section taken through line or 00, Fig. 1; and Figs. 4, 5, and 6 are detached views of the different parts.
A is a ring adapted to fit the finger of the operator. This ring is provided with a projection, 13, which has a slot, a, cut from its top, down into which the knife 0 is adapted to fit. The knife 0 is made uniform throughout, with its edges band 0 sharpened. The object of sharpening both edges is to allow of its being reversed when it becomes dull, and thus pre sent a sharp cutting-edge. Again, this knife may also be turned bottom side up, and thus four cutting-edges are provided.
Fitting over the knife O is a cap, D, which may be secured in place byanysuitable means, one means being shown in the drawings-win,
providing the projection B with a male screwthread and the cap D with a female screwthread. The function that the cap D performs is to act as a shield over the knife 0, and when constructel as shown in the drawings to prevent the said knife from falling out of place. This cap D has a slot, I), cut through at one side to allow of the cord or thread coming in contact with the knife 0. As this slot 1) is preferably made somewhat above the level of the upper surface of the ring, I provide a ridge, 0, on the outer surface of the ring, which acts to guide the cord or string to the slot.
What I claim is- 1. In a thread or twine cutter, the combination, with the projection 13 and knife 0, of the cap or shield D,having the slot 1), substantially as set forth. I
2. In a thread or twine cutter, the ring A, having a projection, B, adapted to receive a knife, and the cap or shield D, having a slot, 1), substantially as set forth.
3. In a thread or twine cutter, the combination, with the ring A, having the projection B, adapted to receive a knife, 0, of the cap D, having a slot, 1), and the ledge c, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
NATHANIEL D. WETMORE.
