Claims.
-This invention relates to a frankfurter roll and apparatus for forming and baking the same.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved frankfurter or wiener roll' which need not to be sliced, but which will accommodate a frankfurter or wiener together with the accompanying condiment, permitting the ready positioning of the Wiener without danger of spilling the condiment.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved apparatus for the formation and baking of such wiener rolls either singly or in substantial numbers.
Further objects will more particularly appear in the course of the following detailed description,

Figure 5 is a fragmentary longitudinal cross section showing two aligned core members in assembled relationship with the pan,
'I'he improved wiener roll herein illustrated in Figure 1 is characterized by being formed with an axial bore 2 extending the major portion of the length of the roll, this bore 2 being of sufficient diameter to freely accommodate a wiener 5. A continuation of the bore 2 with reduced diameter extends from the inner end of said bore to the other end of the roll, as indicated at 4. The major bore 2 is further distinguished by being formed with a plurality of longitudinally extending grooves or depressions 3 spaced circumferentially around the perimeter of-this bore, the purpose of these grooves being to accommodate the condiment which in the application of the wiener to the roll would be applied in a daub on the end of the wiener to be inserted rst in the bore, and as the wiener is pressed into the bore thecondiment is spread and accommodates itself in these grooves 3. By reason., of the shoulderiormed at the far end of the bore where the diameter of the bore is reduced, as at the part 4,
effectively prevents any of this condiment, mus-v tard, ketchup, or the like, from spilling through, this shoulder acting as an abutment `or buier a receptacle or pan herein illustrated as of rectangular form, and comprising a b0ttom` sheet-y' of metal Ill bent to form a plurality of parallel semi-cylindrical chambers 6. Medially of the pan is a partition II which serves to divide the pan into two series of aligned semi-cylindrical grooves in each of which a roll is to be baked. The ends of the pan are closed by walls I3-I'3, and the walls I3 and the medial wall II are each provided with orices to support substantially medially of each of the compartments 6, a core member 'I.
The core members 'I are substantially cylindrical members of sheet metal having the major portion of their length of a greater diameter than one end portion. The larger portion of each core is provided with longitudinally extending peripheral ridges I8 circumferentially spaced, and the large end of each core is provided with a cover plate 22 having a handle 24 and provided with orices 23 through which the heated air of the oven can circulate within the core.
Two types of cores are provided in which the inner reduced diameter end portions I9 and I 9' are so constructed as to telescope, as illustrated in Figure 5, and thus support two aligned core parts through a single orice in the medial wall II. To accomplish this end, one core part is provided with the reduced diameter end portion I9 formed with an annular ridge 20 and an extension 2|, which extension 2l is adapted t0 telescope within the'reduced end portion I9 of another core member I'I, which latter core member is Otherwise similar in all respects with the core member I'I.
As illlustrated in Figure 6, a plurality of the core members can, if desired, be associated with a single end strip 25 provided with a single handle 26, the core parts being arranged parallel and secured to the end strip 25, as illustrated.

3 core members, and that dough placed in the bottom of each of the semi-cylindrical compartments 6 can rise around and conform itself with the core member therein, thus producing the improved roll illustrated in Figure 1.
Various modications in the details of construction of the apparatus will readily suggest themselves to those skilled in the art, but within the scope of the present invention as claimed.
I claim:
1. Device for baking rolls comprising, a semicylindrical container having substantially parallel end Walls, said end walls formed with substantially medially positioned orifices of different diameters, a core of cylindrical form having an end portion of reduced diameter to t the smaller orice in one end wall, the major portion of said core having a larger diameter and formed with longitudinally extending circumferentially spaced ribs and adapted to slide in the larger end wall orce, the shoulder formed between the larger portion and the reduced end portion of the core being spaced from the wall supporting the reduced end portion when the core is associated with the container.
portions of some cores adapted to telescope with the reduced end portions of other cores, and said telescoped portions seated in the orices of the medial wall while the cores extend in alignment through aligned grooves on each side of said wall.
3. Device as specied in claim 2 in which the small end part of those cores formed to seat within the end parts of other cores are of substantially greater length than said latter parts, and are formed with an annular rib adapted to limit the telescoping of said parts to provide terminal end parts of the associated pair of cores of substantially equal length extending on each side of the medial wall of the container.
4. The device of claim 2 in which each core part has an end finger grip arranged to be accessible from the exterior of the container.
5. The device of claim 2 in which a plurality of core members are associated in parallel spaced relationshipconforming with the depressions in the container and secured to a common end member.
