3 Claims.
This invention relates to vaginal depositors and applicators and more particularly to one which may be extruded from its container and everted by a single operation after internal positioning.
The principal object of this invention is to provide an improved tampon or core which can be spread open and unfoldedby a single manualoperation.
The object of` my invention is to provide a ready means of self-application and isl a further improvernent over the tampon covered by my pend- 1ng application Serial No. 612,592, now Patent No. 2,430,250, in that the operation may be performed by one hand manipulation and the core is transversely folded to produce new and novel results.
In accordance with my invention there is produced a useful and practical device. It will remain sterile throughout the entire cycle of positioning, extrusion and eversion. It is easy to manufacture and low in cost. The extruded and everted core more readily conforms to the shape of the receiving cavity for more complete application. Its longitudinal and transverse folds provide an improved receptacle for medication prior to application. It is a complete device not requiring the use of additional instrumentalities.
Further objects of the invention will hereinafter appear from the following description of the preferred embodiment illustrative of the invention and shown in the accompanying drawing in Which Fig. 1 is a side view of the assembled device before operation.
Fig. 2 is a side view of the device after operation.
Fig. 3 is a front View of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is an end view of the ejector tube.
Fig. 5 is a side View of the tampon showing the transverse fold and attached draw string.
This internal depositing and applicating device consists of a U-shaped tampon with one end of a draw string attached to one of the open ends of the U, while the free end of the draw string is removably attached to the more remote end of the container tube. An ejector tube or other plunger is used to extrude the tampon from its container. One or both ends of the U-shaped tampon may be so anchored.
Referring to the drawings, the device therein shown comprises an internal depositing and applicating tampon I, fashioned of absorbent material and transversely folded approximately in half at location 2. The tampon I is provided with a draw string 3, attached to outside surface' I8 at pointv 4 and'with a depending end 5 knotted adjacent to its end at I9. The point 4A is adjacent tothe crown 6'. ofr` the tampon I'. The free endI of the tampon is indicated at 'I'. The complete fold at 2, provides a base part 8. The container tube 9 has an extrusion end'y II which is provided with an anchorslot I2; The ejector tube I3 is provided with an ejector end I4, a manipulation end I5, anda longitudinal indentation I6 extending'between end` I4 and end I5 resulting in a groove Il'; A knot' i9' separates cord 3 from its depending end 5.
In assembling the device, tampon I is folded at 2 forming a base part 8. Crown 6 is brought adjacent to end 'I. Draw string 3 is brought contiguous to surface I8. This assembly is compressed and inserted into container tube 9 by passing base part 8 through extrusion end HJ. Cord 3 is positioned between surface I8 and inside wall of container tube. The knot I9 is engaged with anchor slot I2 allowing depending end 5 to fall outside of the container tube 9. The ejector end I4 of ejector tube I3 is inserted into the anchor end II of container tube 9 until it touches the base part of the tampon. The lower portion of the draw string 3 lies within groove I1 of ejector tube I3 or between the walls of both tubes if no groove is provided. The provision of a groove allows free action of the draw string and also provides for greater bearing surface on ejector end I4.
In operating the device, pressure is applied to the manipulating end I5 of the ejector tube I3. The ejector end I4 of ejector tube I3 forces tampon out of extrusion end ID of container tube 9. The tampon base 8 moves freely but draw string 3 extends only slightly as it is anchored on its lower end to container tube 9 as a result of knot I9 being engaged` with anchor slot I2. The free end 'I of tampon I extrudes Without interference. The crown end 6 being restrained by anchored draw string 3 is everted as shown. By disengaging knot I9 from slot I2 by means of depending end 5, both tubes may readily be removed.
It is apparent that the details of the device described may be varied without departing from the nature or principle of my invention and it is my intention not to limit the invention to the particular details set forth but to describe one method of obtaining the desired end so that said end, being once realized, may be accomplished by changes in the construction and arrangements of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the preferred embodiment illustrative of my invention, I claim:
1. A depositor and applicator comprising a flexible transversely folded expellable tampon having a base part, a free end, an anchored crown and a depending anchor string and cylindrical concentric inner ejector and outer container tubes therefor, the lower end of said container tube being provided with an anchor slot, said tampon being entirely inserted into said container tube through its upper end with the base of said tampon within the tube, the upper end of said string being permanently attached adjacent to the end of said crown and depending from the outside surface of said crown, the lower end of said string being fastened to said anchor slot, the length of said string from said crown to said slot being substantially the same as the length of said container tube, the length of said ejector tube being shorter than the length of said container tube after yfull insertion of said ejector tube.
2. A depositor and applicator comprising a flexible transversely folded core having a base part, a free end, an anchored crown and an anchor string attached to said crown, and a cylindrical tube container for said core, said base part being inside of said tube and said crown and said free end being contiguous to the upper end of said tube, said crown being tied to the lower end of said tube by said draw string, said tube 4 containing a shorter concentric inner ejector tube.
3. In an internal depositing and applicating device of the kind described, an expellable expanding core, and concentric cylindrical shorter inner ejector and longer outer container tubes therefor, said core comprising longitudinally an anchored crown, a free end, and a base part, said core being compressed transversely into a substantially cylindrical shape, and enclosed in upper end of said container tube With said base part within said tube, said crown being provided with an anchor string permanently fastened on one end to its outside surface, the lower end of said container tube being provided with an anchor slot, the other end of said anchor string being connected to said anchor slot.
