Thisinvention relates to hoists constructed to include gyrating gear reduction mechanism for attaining any desired gear reduction ratio with a minimum of gear elements.
The general object of the invention is the provision of a hoist of the type referred to above, constructed to include an axially rotatable hoist drum having at its one side an external gear, and an internal gear member traversed by said external gear and mounted to gyrate within predetermined limits for rotation of the external gear of the hoist drum by gyrating action of the internal gear member.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a hoist of the type referred to above, constructed to include a power shaft member formed with an'v eccentric, a hoist drum-'rotatably supported on said power shaft having an external gear at one side, an internal, slidably supported gyrating gear member traversed by the external gear of said drum and adapted to be gyrated by the eccentric of said power shaft, and supporting means preventing rotation of said internal gear member and eifecting a gyrating action thereof when such internal gear is shifted by said eccentric and effects rotation of the hoist drum by the gyrating action of the internal gear member.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a hoist of the type referred to above which is of simple and economic construction and of high efficiency and durability.
With the above and other incidental objects in View, which will appear hereinafter, the invention consists in certain other novel features of construction and combination of parts, the essential elements of which are set forth in the appended claims, and a preferred form of embodiment of the invention is hereinafter shown with reference to the drawings accompanying and forming part of the specification.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a hoist constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side view of the hoist shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a transversal sectional view through the hoist, the section being taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a side view of the gyrating gear.
Referring now more particularly to the exemplied form of the invention shown in the drawings, reference numeral 2 denotes a housing embodying two box- like members 3 and 4 which are spaced from each other by a spacer member 5 and bolted together by bolts B extended through perforated bosses 1 in members 3 and 4. Members 3 and d are provided with central perforated hub portions B and 8 and include at'their bottom portions supporting lugs lf3 and H, and member 3, in addition, has laterally and downwardly extended therefrom a hollow arm portion l2, the side walls ifi. of which are formed with perforated. oppositely arranged bosses l5 fora purpose later to be described. Arm vi2 carries at its end portion a supporting lug |53 so that housing 2 is provided ywith a three point support.
The thus constructed housing has arranged longitudinally therein a power shaft or-member Il which is rotatably mounted in the hub portions 8 and 9 by means of bearings it and I9. The forward end of this shaft extends outwardly of the housing and is adapted to receive the hoist actuating mechanism, not shown. Power shaft His provided with an eccentric or cam 2a which freely rotatably supports by means of a bearing 2l an internal gear 22-the gyrating gearwhich has its hub portion 23 sleeved on bearing 2 l. The internal gear 22 includes a radial arm 2li seized to freely extend into the hollow arm portion l2 of member 3 and this radial arm includes near its end portion an elongated slot 25 to slidably connect internal gear 22 to an anchor bolt 2li extended through the perforated bosses i5 of the hollow arm portion I2. Shaft il supports adjacent to its eccentric or cam 2t a channeled cable drum 2l freely rotatably mounted on said shaft by bearings 28 arranged in bores of the central hub portions 29 of the cable drum. This cable drum includes at its one side an external gear 3E! axially aligned with the drum, which .A gear is formed as an integral part. of the drum,
traverses the internal gear and meshes therewith so as to be rotated thereby when the internal gear is gyrated. The cable drurn 27 includes at its other side a ratchet wheel 3i also formed as an integral part of the drum, which ratchet wheel cooperates with a ratchet pawl` 32 in turn pivoted to the end wall 33 of housing member d by means of a bolt 36 and yieldingly forced into engagement with the teeth of ratchet wheel 3| by a coil spring 35. Disengagement of ratchet pawl 32 from ratchet wheel 3l is effected by a lever 3l which is pivoted to the eye 3S of a rod 39 connected with the ratchet pawl S2. When in proper position this lever 3'! lifts the pawl 32 out of engagement with ratchet wheel 3l by an eccentric portion 40 at the pivot end of said lever.
In hoisting operations power is transmitted through power shaft l'l to the reduction gearing system, the reduction ratio of which is determined by the relative number of teeth of internal gear 22 and external gear 30 traversing and meshing the internal gear. Rotation of power shaft l1 causes gyrating action of the internal gear by eccentric 20 which gear is prevented from rotation by the slidable connection of radial arm 24 with hollow arm portion I2 of housing member 3, and this gyrating action rotates external gear 30 at a speed depending upon the relative num ber of teeth of the gear elements. The gyrating gear 22 is caused to travel around the external gear 30, radial arm 24 being permitted to oscillate proportionally to the movement of the eccentric 20 revolving in unison with power shaft I1. Rotation of the external gear 30 causes simultaneous rotation of the cable drum to which is attached a cable 31 used for the loads to be carried. The ratchet mechanism serves to arrest the cable drum in any desired position and prevents backslipping of the drum, though the gyrating mechanism is practically self-locking due to the high reduction gearing of the hoist.
It will be seen from the description heretofore given that the described hoist is of simple and economic construction with very few working parts as the cable drum, the external gear and the ratchet gear are formed as a unitary structure and can readily and easily be assembled by sleeving the internal gear member on the eccentric of the power shaft, sleeving the unitary structure on such shaft, placing the two housing sections upon said shaft, and bolting the sections together.
Having thus described my invention, claim is:
1. In a hoist with a gyral gear drive, a housing, a rotatable power shaft mounted in said housing, an eccentric on said power shaft, an internal cup-shaped gear freely rotatably mounted on the what I eccentric of said shaft and slidably pivoted to said housing, and a flanged cable drum freely rotatably arranged on said power shaft adjacent to said internal gear, said drum having integrally extended from its flange adjacent to said internal gear a ring-shaped externally toothed ange extended into said internal gear, meshing therewith and dimensioned to effect rotation of said drum by a gyrating action of said internal gear when said power shaft is rotated, said flange of said cable drum dimensioned to form with said internal gear a working chamber fully enclosing in all possible positions of said internal gear, the gear teeth of said internal gear and said ringshaped flange.
2. A hoist as described in claim 1, wherein said cable drum has integrally, laterally extended from its other flange another ring-shaped flange formed with ratchet teeth, and wherein said housing pivotally supports a spring-pressed ratchet pawl cooperating with the ratchet teeth of the said other ring-shaped flange in arresting movements of said drum in one direction.
