3 Claims.
This invention relates to concrete forms for use in making concrete structures by the process in which the aggregate is first packed within the form and grout under pressure is then forced into the aggregate tofill the voids thereof.
The invention has for an object to provide tie members which connect the sides of the form to resist the outward thrust of the material within the form on the side walls and which are also adapted to serve as conduits for the introduction of grout into the form.
A further object is to provide a tubular tie rod which passes through at least one of the side walls of the form and which is provided with a clamping nut for engagement with the exterior of the form wall and which is also adapted to serve as a coupling member by means of which a grout supply conduit may be joined to the tubular tie rod to deliver grout through the tubular rod to the interior of the form.
Other objects will be apparent from the fo1- lowing description.
Reference should be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary vertical section through a form embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary front elevation of the form;
Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation showing one of the tubular tie rods on an enlarged scale;
Fig. 4 shows the coupling member at the outer ends of the tubular tie rod viewed as indicated at 4-4 in Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 is a section taken on the line indicated at 5-5 in Fig. 3; and
Fig. 6 is a vertical section showing the invention applied to a repair form.
Figs. 1 to 4 of the drawings show a form composed of two side wall structures A that are con" nected by a series of transverse tie rods B that extend transversely across the space between the walls and that are connected to the walls in such manner as to resist the outward thrust of the material within the form upon said walls.
Each of the wall structures A is composed of an inner sheathing I attached to spaced studs 2 that are reinforced by vertically spaced wales 3.
The tie rods B are tubular, being formed of pipe sections and are adapted to serve as conduits through which grout may be introduced into the form. Each of the tie rods B has an inner or central pipe section 4 in the form of a pipe that is of a length slightly less than the space between the walls of the form and each of the sections 4 is provided with lateral slots 5 through which grout may be discharged into the aggregate within the form. The inner pipe sections 4 are of a length slightly less than the space between the sheathings I and are externally threaded to receive tubular internally threaded coupling sleeves 6 that may engage with the sheathings l and serve as spacers.
Outer pipe sections 1 of a length to extend through the side wall structure and past the outer sides of the wales 3 are externally threaded at opposite ends and are screwed into the sleeves 6. The outer ends of the pipe sections 1 receive sleeve nuts 8 that are screwed upon the outer ends thereof and each of the nuts 8 has attached thereto by suitable means such as welding, a washer plate 9 adapted to engage the outer faces of the wales. The nuts 8 have suitable operating handles l0 attached thereto by means of which they may be turned to press the plates 9 against the wales 3. The sleeve nuts 8 serve not only as clamping members but also as coupling members to which suitable grout supply pipes ll may be attached. Grout under pressure is preferably simultaneously forced into opposite ends of the tubular tie rods B and this grout is discharged through the lateral slots 5 into the aggregate within the form.
The tie rods B may be placed at suitable intervals both longitudinally and vertically of the form and the grout may be introduced first into the lower portion of the form and successively at higher levels until all of the voids of the aggregate are filled with grout.
After the concrete within the form has set the nuts 8 may be removed to permit the walls to be stripped from the forms, after which the pipe sections 1 and sleeves 6 are detached from the inner slotted pipe sections 4 and the openings in the wall face left by removal of the sleeves 6 are plugged with mortar to completely embed the pipe sections 4. To facilitate the removal of the sleeves 6 the threading of the outer ends of the sleeves 6 and the inner end of the pipe sections 1 may be of the opposite hand to that of the ends of the pipe section 4 and the inner ends of the sleeves 6 as shown in Fig. 3, so that by turning a pipe section 1 in a direction to screw it into its sleeve 6 it will cause the section I and sleeve 6 to turn together in a direction to unscrew the sleeve 6 from the inner section 4. If desired the sleeve 6 may be formed with its outer end of slightly greater external diameter than its inner end to provide a taper thatwill facilitate removal of the sleeve from the wall.
In the repairing of masonry structures one wall of the form may be formed by the structure being repaired, in which case anchoring members l2 are secured in the masonry structure at suitably spaced points, and each of these anchoring members has an outer socket portion l4 into which an end of a slotted pipe section 4 may be screwed. Except for the anchoring members I2 the tie rods are the same as above described. The outer ends of the sections 4 of the tie rods have coupling sleeves 6 attached thereto which receive tubular sections 1 that extend through a wall which may be identical with the walls shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Any suitable means may be provided for coupling the grout supply pipe to the sleeve nuts 8.
As herein shown a coupling of the bayonet type v is provided in which a coupling member 15 is secured to the nut 8 by means of a short threaded connecting member It, the member l5 having an interrupted flange l'l adapted to enter a coupling member l8 carried by the conduit 1 I which can be interlocked with the member l5 by a relative turning movement.
It is to be understood that in accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes variations and modifications of the specific invention herein shown and described may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim is:
1. A concrete form having side walls, and tubular tie rods extending across the space between said walls and attached to said walls, said tubular tie rods each comprising a slotted section between said side walls and a section detachably connected to said slotted section and extending through one of said side walls, said tie rods providing conduits through which grout may be introduced into the form.
2. A concrete form having side walls, and tie rods extending across the space between said walls and attached to one of said walls, said tie rods each comprising a slotted tubular section anchored at one end to one side wall, a coupling sleeve screwed upon the other end of the slotted section and a tubular section screwed into said sleeve and extending through the latter side wall, said tie rods" forming'conduits through which grout may be introduced into the form.
3. A concrete form having side walls, and tubular tie rods extending across the space be tween said walls and attached to said walls, said tubular tie rods each having a slotted section between said side walls, an internally threaded coupling sleeve at each end of each slotted sec tion bearing against the inner faces of said side walls, tubular sections extending through the side walls and screwed into said coupling sleeves, and sleeves screwed upon the outer ends of the latter sections, the latter sleeves serving as clamping nuts and as connecting members for attachment of grout supply conduits to said tubular tie rods.
